||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking forward to a quiet, light and high performance hair dryer but while the performance is there, it is neither quiet not light. The unit has a heavy and bulky power cord and an in-line power converter which is not shown on any of the pictures. When selecting the lowest fan speed there is a high pitch whining noise (~17KHz) that is really annoying. At higher fan speeds this is not there but when trying hair around the ears you will want to reduce the fan speed to low. Last, the air intake is at the bottom of the handle so I routinely cover it up with my hand and have to move my hand up to allow air flow. It does dry the hair faster than the regular hair dryers, but this feels like a first generation design where corners were cut and Dyson has a long way to go to meet my expectations.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is engineered for balance in the hand. It is also the only manufactured hair dryer with the motor in the handle. With the center of mass being close to the handle, it is less arduous when maneuvering the hair dryer from side-to-side as it is not top heavy. We certainly would not expect that there would be any type of whining noise coming from your dryer. We would also make the recommendation that when using your dryer, to ensure your hand is not covering the air intake at the bottom of the handle. This can cause your dryer to overheat, and malfunction.
