Dyson V8 vacuums have a run time of up to 40 minutes, when used in standard power mode. On MAX power, run time will be shorter due to the added boost of suction power. You should find that suction in standard power mode is sufficient for most tasks, while MAX is better suited for tough cleaning jobs. Holding the switch in order to stay on is very tiring plus it blows the air out of filter and its a NO for me. Also, the maximum time it stays on is less than 10 minutes when is advertised for 40 minutes. I returned this vacuum.
