MAX provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode should not be utilized for your everyday cleaning, as it will only give you about 7 minutes of run time. Regular suction is generally suitable for every household, and gives up to 40 minutes of run time (30 when using a motorized tool). Let me first say that my life has been transformed going to a cordless vacuum. I didn't realize how much time was wasted flopping a cord, and moving it from outlet to outlet. Additionally, I normally wouldn't wall mount something like this, but I took the plunge and screwed it in because I have been so impressed. The vacuum is lighter than I expected, and has enough battery for me to do multiple rooms on three floors. I have a mix of tile, hardwood, and carpet, and it works well on all of them. I even did two staircases at the max suction setting. I think the only function this product is missing would be a good deep carpet clean. If you have a lot of carpet, I would recommend still having a corded full size vacuum for occasional deep cleans. This little guy does a great job, but I don't feel it really gets into the carpet. Don't get me wrong, it picks up the dirt and makes great carpet lines, but I don't think this product was really designed for full out carpet cleaning. That being said, the ease of use and amount of battery life makes this a very, very, very versatile vacuum. In addition being so amazing, it also looks really cool.

The Dyson V8 features up to 40 minutes of run time, depending on the mode or combination of modes/tools used. The V8 features two modes: extended run high suction mode and max mode. Out-the-box, the machine may be set to max mode. Max mode is designed to be a temporary boost of power for particularly stubborn messes and provides 7 minutes total of run time. Extended run high suction mode is designed to handle the majority of cleaning tasks and provides up to 40 minutes of run time, depending on your combination of tools used.

The V8 is advertised to get 7 minutes in MAX mode for tougher jobs. 25 minutes in standard mode with the motorized cleaner head attached and 30 minutes with the soft roller cleaner head or mini motorized tool attached. 40 minutes for any other tool. complete waste of money!

Have to speed vacuum to get done before the battery dies because it then has to charge at least a few hours till you can use it again. Never again Dyson, never again cordless. $400 down the drain!
