Customers are saying

Customers recognize the product for its impressive suction power, fantastic ease of use, and lightweight, cordless design, which contribute to its great overall performance. They also appreciate the convenience of its cordless feature and various attachments. However, a significant concern for many is the battery life, which customers feel could be improved. Other noted drawbacks include its high price, noise level, small dustbin, and less effective performance on carpeting.

Actually I haven't used it yet but know I'll really enjoy it. Not having a cord to deal with and it being light weight is wonderful. It's easy to store and also easy to change to a hand held vacuum.

This was an unbelievable waste of money. I can't believe spending over $500 on a vacuum leads to under 2 cumulative hours of use before the battery is totally shot. Literally under 2 total hours of runtime and I'm back to the old dustpan and broom option. Please buy something different and don't fall for this nonsense product.

Coming from a canister vaccum I love not having a cord. Just grab the vaccum and go. Works great on carpets and not as good on hardwood/tile but still good. Love the no bag, easy to empty. Utility works great on stairs. So much better than lugging around canister.

Purchased this Dyson V8 to replace a Dyson V6 that we broke (Our bad, not a product issue) This unit has some obvious improvements over the V6, beginning with more power and some subtle features. These units feel very well made and out old model held up to most abuse. (I say "most" because we did manage to break it through our own negligence). It is a bit heavier, but non of these "Stick" vacuums are as cumbersome as the many I have previously owned. Cordless feature is a big plus, with plenty of battery time. We have had great experiences with the Dyson products and would recommend and purchase again.

I just moved to Minnesota and have carpet in my bedroom in this new rental. Usually a swifter guy, but needed a vacuum to satisfy both hardwood floors in living area and bedroom. Actually went to BestBuy looking for a router/modem combo and decided to walk over to Dyson section to "browse". The Dyson lady, Magdelena came over, showed me how thoughtfully constructed this vaccum was and I was sold. She also told me that it lasts for many years so decided to make an investment. Very happy with it so far. I initially got the V7, but the power wasn't to my satisfaction. Saw V8 selling in Costco for $299 (cost of V7) at the time so came back to store, asked for pricematch for V8 and they did. So happy with it. No regrets.

Great suction and moves smoothly around corners and tight spaces. Only complaint is the max suction only lasts for 7 minutes, I would love for that to be a little longer when cleaning my car or my large area rugs.

Love the new V8 Dyson very powerful and quiet. I had the V6 before. I tied all the other handheld vacuums and although they are cheaper we’re awful to use and very very heavy and noisy. This one is really the best good quality

Great great handheld vacuum. The suction is unbeatable. It don't miss an ounce of dog hair. I live on a farm so the ease of use right off the dock is so important.

Giving this 3 stars. Within a few months the battery charge was always dying too quickly (still is). Does an awesome job cleaning but the battery life and filter life sucks.

It's so lightweight that you can use it anywhere. It's worth the money for sure. Be forewarned that the battery only lasts for about 15 minutes (on the high setting) but it's worth the ease of use.

Four stars because it’s pricy. Had to buy flexible hose to be able vacuum my car. Also will have to buy power head attachment for wooden floors which will make this vacuum cleaner even more pricy. Otherwise it’s great and easy to use, durability, only time will tell.

    Powerful cordless vacuum

I received this product in exchange for a review. Overall: This Dyson cordless vacuum is lightweight, yet powerful. I found it easy to use and was happy with its performance. I have owned other Dyson products and have always been pleased with the build quality and performance of their products. This is no exception. The vacuum is well balanced and easy to hold in your hand. It's also easy to maneuver with the use of attachments. If I had to pick out negatives about it, I would pick the relatively small canister size (which is a tradeoff for making it less compact) and the fact that the dock is missing one more place in order to hold all 4 attachments on the dock. Read below for a more detailed review. Performance: Despite weighing only a few pounds, this vacuum packs a powerful punch. It is activated by holding down a trigger on the handle and stopped by releasing it. In a house with cats and dogs, I found myself impressed with how much hair it picked up. So much so, that I found myself frequently emptying the bin. It offers 2 power modes, regular and Max. Max mode offers a significant amount of additional suction power at the expense of run time. When my wife first switched to Max mode, she commented that it felt like the motorized head was suddenly suctioned to the floor. We found the normal mode sufficient for regular cleaning. The selection of attachments was nice as well, but we found ourselves using the main motorized cleaning head as a traditional vacuum the most. It also comes with a smaller motorized head which was helpful on stairs, on furniture (pet hair) and in cars. Additionally, it comes with a crevice tool, a combo tool with dusting bristles and a smaller dusting brush. Battery Life: Battery life can be a key selling point or sense of frustration in cordless devices. Dyson advertises this vacuum right on the box as having up to 45 minutes of cleaning time per charge. You'll find some smaller, qualifying print in the manual. If you use the main motorized brush head, they list 25 minutes of battery life. For the smaller motorized tool, up to 30 minutes. And around 40 minutes for the other attachments. So, realistically, you're looking at closer to 25-30 minutes of run time with average use. I found that to be an accurate representation. With regular bin emptying, making sure to take my hand off the trigger when not in use and being deliberate in my path with the vacuum, I found myself able to tackle my whole house of around 1200 square feet, including the 2 staircases. I would be pushing the limits of the batteries to get all the furniture on the same charge. So, if you are someone that likes to complete all vacuuming at one time, you may find this battery falls short if you have a home much larger than mine. If you break the chore up over the week or even the day, the run time could be sufficient for larger homes. At the other end of performance is Max mode. It is meant to be used when you need more suction power, but only temporarily. This mode knocks the battery life down to only 7 minutes, but the increase in power is very noticeable. So, given that the whole vacuum is to be held in a single hand during use, it actually has a pretty good battery life. Adding more battery capacity would mean a larger size and increased weight, which would make it less easy to use. Charging from empty to full capacity is listed around 5 hours, but if you use the provided dock, it can always be charging when not in use. There are 3 blue LEDs on the side of the vacuum that indicate relative remaining battery life. All three are lit after a full charge and only one when it is approaching the end of run time on the current charge. Emptying the contents: I found emptying the bin to be very simple, especially in comparison to some other vacuums I've used. You can detach any attachments for convenience, but you don't have to in order to empty it. Just hold the bin over a trash can and pull up on the red lever until the bottom hatch opens up. There is a rubber sleeve that removes dust from the central filter when pulling up as well. Just push the motor back down and close the hatch to continue. Compared to other vacuums where you have to disassemble the bin from part of the vacuum before it can be emptied, this is very simple. There are also two removable, cleanable filters on this device. The first is in the center of the motor unit. It can be pulled out and cleaned with cool water. The second filter is around the exhaust of the vacuum and can be twisted to be removed. The manual recommends washing them by hand under cool water and allowing them to air dry at least monthly. Because of it's compact size, the volume of the bin isn't very high. That's not too much of a problem, since as I stated above, it is easy to empty the bin. However, in a larger or more debris filled environment (such as a home with pets), you can find yourself exceeding the max fill line on the bin frequently. That line appears to be only about a third of the way up the canister, but you can see that exceeding it would block air flow. Convenience: The biggest pro of this vacuum is the convenience factor. You don't have to manage a cable or pay attention to how far you are from the outlet. It's light and easy to maneuver, particularly on elevated surfaces such as stairs or furniture. Emptying and cleaning it are a breeze. And if you use the provided dock, storing it out of the way and charging it are simple as well. It think it lives up to the hassle-free promise Dyson prints on the package as well as can be expected.

Great vacuum. The only thing i would change is the handle is a little small for bigger hands and the holder the vacuum sits in only has space for two of the accessories not all three .
