Posted .Hello Andrew, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've found both run time and suction to be disappointing in your Dyson V8 Animal. The Dyson V8 Animal cordless vacuum cleaner has a run-time enhancing trigger. Battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed – it is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles. All of our cordless units do come switched on to MAX mode out of the box, otherwise, when not set to MAX mode, a full charge gives 40 minutes of fade free power or 30 minutes when using the motorized floor tool.
When using your machine in MAX with the direct-drive Motorhead, run time will be approximately 7 minutes. Dyson Animal variants come equipped with a mini motorized head which is designed to pick up pet hair from furniture and stairs. You can also use this tool with the machine in MAX power for optimum pick-up, if you find that standard power is leaving pet hair behind.

I bought this to pick up cat litter after my cat.

I was unaware of the very low battery life-- on a full charge it only lasted 7 minutes. It works well for vacuuming like my other dyson products, but the battery is miserable.

We're sorry to hear of your frustrations with the run time. The Dyson V8 Animal provides up to 40 minutes of run time, depending on the mode used. It comes with two modes: powerful suction mode and max mode. Out-the-box, the machine may be set to max mode. Max mode is created to be a temporary boost of power for particularly stubborn messes, and provides up to 8 minutes of total run time. The powerful suction mode is ideal for the majority of cleaning tasks.

Your vacuum will come with standard and Max power modes. Our cordless models also have a run-time enhancing light touch trigger which ensures battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed. In Max power run time will be up to 7 minutes, and in standard power, you can expect run times of up to 30-40 minutes depending on which tool or attachments you are using.
