    ***Dyson keeps deleting my post from their main website as they filter out negative posts.*** I used to say this vacuum was one of my top 5 favorite things ever. Within a year, the battery was seriously suffering. After 2 years, I could only get about 10 minutes of straight vacuuming before it would die. I dealt with it because I loved the vacuum so much and would keep the house clean just to tidy with the V8 - but it would sometimes take me an entire day to vacuum the house because I had to keep charging. Jump ahead to this past year, I finally reached out to Dyson as my vacuum can't hold a charge for longer than 30 seconds to 1 minute straight whereas it takes 5+ hours to charge it back up. I literally can't vacuum anything now before it dies as there are no corded options. THIS VACUUM DOES NOT WORK WHILE CHARGING OR PLUGGED IN. I finally reached out to customer service who told me I was a few months passed the warranty (I seriously thought Dyson was a company who's caliber would back up lifetime warranties so I had no idea there was a 2 year expiration date on that). They redirected me to purchasing a battery which is not cheap by any means (I could literally buy a whole new off brand vacuum that point). To make matters worse, the item has been out of stock for MONTHS! So, here I am without a vacuum at all and even if I was desperate enough to purchase the battery. I'm beginning to wonder if this problem is so prevalent that Dyson can't keep up with battery replacements for this machine. Or if Dyson keeps the battery out of stock on purpose to force consumers to buy NEW machines.

      Hi there, this is Tia with Dyson. We're sorry to hear you say this. To clarify, all cordless machines purchased new from Dyson directly or an authorized retailer include a 2 year warranty. While Dyson batteries are made to last the life of the machine, depending on use, it may be necessary to replace the battery a little sooner than expected.

    Dyson - Short name to match short runtime

    LEss than 3 years after buying a dyson, battery is "dead". Throughout life never delivered "promised" runtimes. With this short a battery life, it has been almost useless. Kept my corded Vaccuum as pack up and use it more often!!

      Dyson V8 Animal features two suction modes; MAX and standard. Please keep in mind that the V8 offers plenty of suction on normal power to effectively clean your floors because of the motorized brush bar. MAX power is really only needed for tough cleaning jobs. Also, while many do use Dyson cordless machines as their main vacuum at home, if you prefer a longer run time, we’d recommend one of our compact uprights or canister models.

    Average and Pricey

    Average especially for its price point. I have a Tineco for half the price that does more. The main floor brush doesn’t light up. You have to manually press the button the entire time. I will say the battery life is better.

      Hello Hannah, this is Kelly with Dyson. I can confirm that the Dyson V8 Animal does not have a light at the cleanerhead. Currently, the only machine we offer that does would be the V15 Detect, which includes the Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head. It features a laser which illuminates dust on hard floors. With regard to the trigger, we know that battery run time is a very important aspect of performance for our owners, so we developed a trigger that helps maximize the amount of time you can clean on one charge. We chose a light-touch trigger over an on/off switch to ensure that battery life is never wasted by letting the machine run when it's not in active use.

    Really IS for pet hair!

    WOW! We have two cats and one has extremely fine hair that sticks like glue especially on the wool carpets. It is no match for the MAX power setting. One pass on Max or 2 on the regular setting. A product that does match the hype. AA++

    2 years later and it dies within 20 seconds while on high power mode. I'd heard others having this issue. Next vacuum I get definitely won't be a Dyson.

    Yes the Dyson V8 Animal (Titanium) looks cool and yes it worked good for 2.5 years, but now 8 months after the warranty expired, the battery will not hold any charge at all, and no I do not think I should have to pay an extra $129.99 for a replacement battery. That's too bad cause I really wanted to keep liking this vacuum, but I do not think it should be unusable after 2.5 years. Sorry Dyson but I am not going to drop $350 for a vacuum, and then another $130 every 2-3 years.

While we can't guarantee a lifespan for the battery due to varying factors, I can confirm that we would generally expect the battery to outlast the free 2-year guarantee provided with all new machines purchased from an authorized retailer. While we don't expect problems to occur, the guarantee is in place to help protect against any problems that may ever arise or come up with a new purchase.     We had 1 that lasted a year. Thankfully, I had purchased a Geek Squad Protection Plan. I exchanged it without an issue and got another one. The second vacuum has been having the same issue. Glad I got a protection plan for it as well.

    I generally like this vacuum... when it is working. The battery only works for about 10 minutes before it needs to be recharged for a few hours. It takes a few days to vacuum my small house because I cannot do it all at once. This has been the case since it was brand new. And a replacement battery is quite expensive.

      Hello Stephen, this is Kelly with Dyson. Your Dyson V8™ cordless offers two powerful suction modes - regular and MAX. MAX provides a boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode should not be utilized for your everyday cleaning, as it will only give you about 7 minutes of run time. Regular suction is generally suitable for every household, and gives up to 40 minutes of run time (30 when using a motorized tool).     The battery life on these stick vacs are designed to last just past the two year warranty period. Ours only holds a 3 minute charge at month 26.5. Customer service only offers a new $129 battery with another two year warranty as a solution. Which is sold out because obviously everyone else is also having the same issue and when we expressed that it was ridiculous that this is the only resolution Jennifer C disconnected and then sent a survey asking if we would recommend Dyson products...LOL!!!!

The V8 cordless machine is designed to provide up to 40 minutes of run time, depending on the mode or combination of modes/tools used. The V8 features two modes: max mode and extended run high suction mode. Out-the-box, the V8 is usually set to max mode. Max mode is designed to be a temporary boost of power for particularly stubborn messes, and provides a total of 7 minutes. The extended run high suction mode is ideal for the majority of cleaning tasks and provides up to 40 minutes.

    This vacuum is absolute TRASH. It works great initially which is probably where the good reviews are coming from, but within a year you will start to see a significant decrease in performance and by two years it just won't function anymore. That's when Dyson will replace the machine for you with a REFURBISHED unit that will break within the year. Oh and the best part is any supposed replacement parts will certainly be out of stock, but it's not even worth waiting for because chances are whatever the fix customer service tells you is, is wrong. If even their new machines have issues I'm not sure why they would think replacing the machine with a refurbished one would be a feasible solution. Nonetheless, in less than 3 years I have a vacuum that doesn't even function. This is what the V8 is.

    Overall, I've been happy with the Dyson V8, but beware that the battery does not last. I've had it for about 2years and have barely, barely used it, but the battery no longer holds power. It still charges, but once it's done charging, it only holds enough power to last for <1 min -- which doesn't leave you time to do anything! A replacement battery costs $99 and is a complete rip-off. Dyson needs to build products and parts that can last beyond minimal usage!

    Read and believe the worst reviews

    Wish I had followed my instinct when I read the review from the guy who said that it does not pick up on hard floors. They expect you to use the rotator which scratches wood floors or this tiny brush attachment. They send you a form letter when you write them that does not address the issue. After repeated contact they finally tell you a regular floor attachment (which should have been included) will cost you another 80 bucks. It works no better than the shark on rugs. The only plus is the cordless stick. If you need to vacuum bare floors do NOT purchase the V8 animal stick. It just blows the pieces away and you have to use a broom. It works no better than a cheaper vacuum on rugs. Waste of money. Horrible customer service. Wish I could return it.

The Dyson V8 Animal features a direct-drive cleaner head, with gentle carbon fiber bristles safe for any flooring type, but powerful enough to pick up debris from both bare floors and carpets. We do also have an Absolute model available, which comes equipped with a second cleaner head; the soft roller. This particular floor tool was engineered for use specifically on bare/hard floor surfaces.
