The extra features were fantastic too, like the washable filter, swivel head & being able to change it around for floors, stairs & walls. The roller was easy to clean as well. However, something went wrong with the charging port so I had to take it in for a warranty exchange. I opted for a corded vacuum because I wasn't a fan of the short run time all cordless models have, but I would have been happy to take another home if they had it in stock!

On a full charge, which would be 5.5 hours, in regular power mode you will get 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on whether using a motorized versus non-motorized tool. In MAX power mode, run time will be about 7-8 minutes. Dyson V8 vacuums have a run time of up to 40 minutes, when used in standard power mode. On MAX power, run time will be shorter due to the added boost of suction power. You should find that suction in standard power mode is sufficient for most tasks, while MAX is better suited for tough cleaning jobs. You may be interested to know that the new Dyson Cyclone V10 models have an advertised run time of up to 60 minutes, which is our longest run time to date.

Your machine does come with two suction modes, regular and MAX. Right out of the box, the machine will be set to MAX mode which provides a generous boost of suction for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode will give you about 7 minutes of run time, so we do not recommend this mode for your everyday vacuuming. While using regular suction mode, you'll receive up to 30-40 minutes of run time, depending on if you're using a motorized tool.

Even though Dyson has a reputation for being powerful, this is still surprisingly good at picking up material. It's also well balanced, which could be a problem since the brush head is so far from the base with the motor and filters. The only problem I noticed is the tendency to depress the trigger whenever I pick it up. It's also easy to dump, with the release lever on top so your hands stay out of the way of the dirt. Overall, this is a great cordless vacuum.

Flashing red light after five uses

Light and convenient but has its flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In my opinion, Dyson has become known as the end all be all in vacuums. I'm not claiming they're the best, I just mean it in the sense if I ask my mom, she's convinced they are. Much like how Bose became the audio quality standard for noise cancelling headphones. They're also like status symbols; the commercial shows a woman pulling her handheld Dyson off the wall in her kitchen as if it were a fashion statement or piece of art on the wall. I've never owned a Dyson and was excited to give this one a try. I like the idea of having a cordless vacuum that's light with a lot of power. And while this vacuum meets those standards, it's flaws (along with it's steep price) keep it from being the best stick vacuum. Putting it together was easy, the instruction manual includes lots of pictures to help explain how to put it together, maintenance, etc.Note that you do have to charge it 5 hours before using it. The dock is optional, but I wouldn't want to plug it in manually each and every time I charge it. So that means I'd use the wall mounted dock, which leads me to my first gripe: location. Unlike the aforementioned commercial, I don't want the Dyson attached to a wall in my house for all to see. I have a small house and didn't have an option of putting in a closet, so it's in my garage. It's not a huge problem for me, but I would take into account the fact that you'll almost "need" to mount this on the wall before you purchase it. And the power cable isn't very long, so it will need to be right next to an outlet or you'll have to find a work around. The docking station leads me to my next gripe: location for the attachments. This vacuum comes with a long extension tube (to use upright) a large motorized attachment brush, a small motorized attachment brush (for when you aren't using the long extension tube), skinny angled attachment (for corners) and two other brushes. The dock holds two attachments and the vacuum would have another attached to it (I keep the large motorized brush on it). But it comes with 5 attachments. So now I have to keep track of 2 attachments that don't attach to the dock. What am I supposed to do with them? This vacuum is too expensive not to have a docking station that can accommodate all of the attachments. In regards to performance, it is pretty good. The battery lasts 40 minutes according to the box, but that's with he motorized brush. Without the motorized brush it lasts 25 minutes. If you were to put it in "max" mode it would last 7 minutes. I don't use Max mode because honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. I have hardwood floors with some area rugs and two cats. The Dyson did a fantastic job picking up hair etc on the hardwood floor and couches, but it was absolutely horrendous on the rugs. The motorized brush would just stop working. The only workaround I came up with was to get the brush spinning in the air and take a running start with the vacuum on the carpet and hope it keeps spinning. I also don't like that there's no option to keep the trigger pulled. It's really easy to maneuver the vacuum but I hate holding the trigger for an expended period of time, why couldn't there be a switch that kept the trigger "activated?" All in all, it's a good vacuum. But it's tough to recommend for the price. On the one hand, I love being able to use a powerful vacuum without cords, and is super easy to maneuver. But it's performance on carpet leaves much to be desired. It also bugs the heck out of me that not all of the accessories fit on the dock. If owning a "Dyson" means a lot to you and you can afford it, this is a great vacuum, but you could find cheaper alternatives with similar performance (more bang for your buck).

The docking station was designed to hold the machine along with 2 tool attachments. Unfortunately, with a number of additional tool options you can get, it wouldn't be ideal to have them all attached to the mount as that may, in turn, make it too heavy for mounting. Alternatives are available, such as a Dyson Tool Bag for storing extra parts/accessories.
The cordless vacuum cleaners have a battery-enhancing trigger. Battery power is only on when the trigger is pushed – this means that the battery is only used for cleaning, and is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles.

Easy to assemble, easy to figure out, this is a powerful, cordless vacuum, and it delivers as promised. The battery life isnt that long, so you cant do your entire house on one charge if you have a large house, but it is perfect for smaller houses, stairs, spider webs on the ceilings, and for quick pick ups and use in your car. Its only shortcomings are no storage method, either bag or carrier for a couple of the extra attachments that come with it, but most people will figure out how to store them and keep them handy, and the fact it takes several hours to charge when completely discharged. If you are looking for a powerful, cordless, all purpose vacuum, you should definitely consider this one!
