I guess I bought the name-not the product. It does pick up anything larger than a sunflower seed and I have to sweep before using. On max suction-I can only get through one flight of stairs before it dies and have to wait 5 hours for it to recharge. bATTERY LASTS BARELY 7 MINUTES.

Posted .Hello Valeria, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've found the suction, run time and performance of your V8 Animal to be so disappointing thus far. The Dyson V8 Animal cordless vacuum cleaner has a run-time enhancing trigger. Battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed – it is not wasted when moving from room to room, or moving around obstacles. All of our cordless units do come switched on to MAX mode out of the box, otherwise, when not set to MAX mode, a full charge gives 40 minutes of fade free power or 30 minutes when using the motorized floor tool.
When using your machine in MAX with the direct-drive Motorhead, run time will be approximately 7 minutes. Dyson Animal variants come equipped with a mini motorized head which is designed to pick up pet hair from furniture and stairs. You can also use this tool with the machine in MAX power for optimum pick-up, if you find that standard power is leaving pet hair behind.

Posted .Hello Jeff, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for your review of the Dyson V8 Animal. Your vacuum will come with standard and Max power modes. Our cordless models also have a run-time enhancing light touch trigger which ensures battery power is only used when the trigger is pushed. In Max power run time will be up to 7 minutes, and in standard power, you can expect run times of up to 30-40 minutes depending on which tool or attachments you are using. Having a shorter run time does sound unusual, and we'd value the opportunity to go over your machine with you.

Not a great long purchase

The battery life is terrible, as all reviews reported, but thankfully my home is small. Just makes it aggravating if I forget to charge it after each and every use. Update: after 6 months of use the vacuum has stopped working all together. It powers on like it’s dying, but it’s clean and has a full battery. Feel like i waited $400. So very very bummed about this purchase. :(

Posted .Hello Amorgan, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're glad to hear that thus far in your use, you were impressed with the suction from your V8 Animal. Your machine will also have two suction modes, MAX and regular. MAX provides a boost of suction power for larger debris or more stubborn messes. This mode will shorten run time to about 7 minutes, since it does draw so much power from the battery. When using regular suction mode, you can expect 30-40 minutes of run time.

Nice Hand Held Vac

The last one our family had (and we've still continued to use) was a 10-year-old Dirt Devil. It was past time for an upgrade. And the Dyson V8 Animal Cord-Free Vacuum is certainly an upgrade! Of course, it is not just a hand-held, although it can be used in that configuration. It is envisioned mostly as a stick-vac. It shines in both uses, although it may be a little heavy for use as a hand-held if that were your only use for it. It has already won over both my wife and myself. It does a great job sucking up pet hair. We have two dogs who love nothing more than to shed. The Dyson V8 does wonderful job cleaning up after them. It is particularly excellent as a dust mop on hardwood floors. Although it may be on the heavy side for a hand-vac at just over 5 pounds, it is still very light as a stick-vac. The fact is cord-free make it very portable and easy to use. The suction power is impressive for such a little vacuum. Suggestions for improvement are few, but here they are: 1. Include a swappable battery, so you can keep two fully charged. In our experience, the battery lasts about 45 mins. When it dies, it dies suddenly. It'd be nice to be able to swap in another battery rather than plug it back up and wait. 2. Make the primary beater tool thinner top to bottom. That would make it easier to use under furniture and such. Our old hand-held had a much thinner (but also far less effective) attachment that fit under the furniture better. All-in-all, though, the Dyson V8 Animal is a clear winner. We use it daily.
