    Breaks down and Worst Service Ever

    So I purchased both an upright and the wand vacuum. The upright hose blew a hole in the first year, could not get anyone from Dyson to return a call, so it sat there. The wand stopped working and again good luck getting much help. Now a few years has gone by, forgot they were still there and I go to a best buy which had a Dyson rep who asked me if I had tried one. Well she got more than she bargained for but she gave me a card and told me there was a service center and they would take care of me. I go there, they charge me $32.00 for a new hose, OK I will let that go but then they say the main body of the wand is shot and needs to be replaced for $134.00, half the price of a new one. When I stated What happened and how can they charge for a part that was obviously defective, they stated I can pay it or call Dyson, who also said I can pay it. DONT BUY DYSON, they break down and they will charge almost the same amount as a new one to fix. I would rather buy a $100 vacuum every year for the next 8 years than go through this again!!

    5 hrs to charge. Only 20 min run time

    I have owned this vacuum for two weeks and regret my purchase for the following reasons: (1) Charge Time: It takes 5 hrs to fully charge the battery (2) Run Time: On a full charge I am unable to complete vacuuming my hardwood floors in 3 full rooms. I can only get my living room, dining room, and 1/2 my kitchen done, (1200 square feet) (3) Convenience: Not convenient to then wait 5 more hours to charge to finish 3 more rooms. (4) Blowback: The design means while you are vacuuming the air exhaust gets blown on your arm (there is no escaping and I have no idea how clean this air exhaust is) (5) The dirt release is a little tricky. On the pro side, I am happy it has a hepa filter and a washable filter. But for over $300 this is ridiculous. And we do like our Dyson upright. So really surprised by this experience.

The Dyson V8 Animal features a direct-drive cleanerhead, with gentle carbon fiber bristles safe for any flooring type, but powerful enough to pick up debris from both bare floors and carpets. While the machine will offer less run time in MAX power mode, most households find standard power sufficient for everyday messes. When using your machine in MAX with the direct-drive Motorhead, run time will be approximately 7 minutes. Dyson Animal variants come equipped with a mini motorized head which is designed to pick up pet hair from furniture and stairs. You can also use this tool with the machine in MAX power for optimum pick-up, if you find that standard power is leaving pet hair behind.

    You'll love it now, hate it in 1-2 years

    ***Dyson keeps deleting my post from their main website as they filter out negative posts.*** I used to say this vacuum was one of my top 5 favorite things ever. Within a year, the battery was seriously suffering. After 2 years, I could only get about 10 minutes of straight vacuuming before it would die. I dealt with it because I loved the vacuum so much and would keep the house clean just to tidy with the V8 - but it would sometimes take me an entire day to vacuum the house because I had to keep charging. Jump ahead to this past year, I finally reached out to Dyson as my vacuum can't hold a charge for longer than 30 seconds to 1 minute straight whereas it takes 5+ hours to charge it back up. I literally can't vacuum anything now before it dies as there are no corded options. THIS VACUUM DOES NOT WORK WHILE CHARGING OR PLUGGED IN. I finally reached out to customer service who told me I was a few months passed the warranty (I seriously thought Dyson was a company who's caliber would back up lifetime warranties so I had no idea there was a 2 year expiration date on that). They redirected me to purchasing a battery which is not cheap by any means (I could literally buy a whole new off brand vacuum that point). To make matters worse, the item has been out of stock for MONTHS! So, here I am without a vacuum at all and even if I was desperate enough to purchase the battery. I'm beginning to wonder if this problem is so prevalent that Dyson can't keep up with battery replacements for this machine. Or if Dyson keeps the battery out of stock on purpose to force consumers to buy NEW machines.

While Dyson batteries are made to last the life of the machine, depending on use, it may be necessary to replace the battery a little sooner than expected.

    Dyson - Short name to match short runtime

    LEss than 3 years after buying a dyson, battery is "dead". Throughout life never delivered "promised" runtimes. With this short a battery life, it has been almost useless. Kept my corded Vaccuum as pack up and use it more often!!

      Dyson V8 Animal features two suction modes; MAX and standard. Please keep in mind that the V8 offers plenty of suction on normal power to effectively clean your floors because of the motorized brush bar. MAX power is really only needed for tough cleaning jobs. Also, while many do use Dyson cordless machines as their main vacuum at home, if you prefer a longer run time, we’d recommend one of our compact uprights or canister models.

    Average and Pricey

    Average especially for its price point. I have a Tineco for half the price that does more. The main floor brush doesn’t light up. You have to manually press the button the entire time. I will say the battery life is better.

      Hello Hannah, this is Kelly with Dyson. I can confirm that the Dyson V8 Animal does not have a light at the cleanerhead. Currently, the only machine we offer that does would be the V15 Detect, which includes the Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head. It features a laser which illuminates dust on hard floors. With regard to the trigger, we know that battery run time is a very important aspect of performance for our owners, so we developed a trigger that helps maximize the amount of time you can clean on one charge. We chose a light-touch trigger over an on/off switch to ensure that battery life is never wasted by letting the machine run when it's not in active use.

    Battery life

    Have had the vacuum for a little over a year. Has only been used on hardwood floors, and one small rug. Battery barely lasts 10 mins now on a full charge, not to mention takes a solid 4-5 hours to fully charge itself. I'd save your money, research a different brand, and stay away from dyson.

    Not as great as it should be clogs alot

    WOW! We have two cats and one has extremely fine hair that sticks like glue especially on the wool carpets. It is no match for the MAX power setting. One pass on Max or 2 on the regular setting. A product that does match the hype. AA++

    Yes the Dyson V8 Animal (Titanium) looks cool and yes it worked good for 2.5 years, but now 8 months after the warranty expired, the battery will not hold any charge at all, and no I do not think I should have to pay an extra $129.99 for a replacement battery. That's too bad cause I really wanted to keep liking this vacuum, but I do not think it should be unusable after 2.5 years. Sorry Dyson but I am not going to drop $350 for a vacuum, and then another $130 every 2-3 years.

While we can't guarantee a lifespan for the battery due to varying factors, I can confirm that we would generally expect the battery to outlast the free 2-year guarantee provided with all new machines purchased from an authorized retailer. While we don't expect problems to occur, the guarantee is in place to help protect against any problems that may ever arise or come up with a new purchase. I'm also happy to share that we do also have many happy cordless Dyson owners who are still enjoying some of our earlier models today.

    Can't recommend

    We had 1 that lasted a year. Thankfully, I had purchased a Geek Squad Protection Plan. I exchanged it without an issue and got another one. The second vacuum has been having the same issue. Glad I got a protection plan for it as well.

    I generally like this vacuum... when it is working. The battery only works for about 10 minutes before it needs to be recharged for a few hours. It takes a few days to vacuum my small house because I cannot do it all at once. This has been the case since it was brand new. And a replacement battery is quite expensive.

    Not Worth the Money, Unreliable

    Waste of money. Works great for about a year. Then the battery charge lasts for about 45 seconds. This happened to us for three models. Highly recommend not buying.

    Amazing at First

    I can’t deny this vacuum has great suction. But my vacuum is now about 1.5 yrs old and it literally lasts 90 seconds and I have to recharge it. I can’t even finish a bedroom. It really is the most frustrating thing ever. It takes me 2 days to vacuum my house.

    The battery life on these stick vacs are designed to last just past the two year warranty period. Ours only holds a 3 minute charge at month 26.5. Customer service only offers a new $129 battery with another two year warranty as a solution. Which is sold out because obviously everyone else is also having the same issue and when we expressed that it was ridiculous that this is the only resolution Jennifer C disconnected and then sent a survey asking if we would recommend Dyson products...LOL!!!!
