Simple to setup and to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had it for 3 months now and so far it's been great. The system was very easy to install. The included double sided tape for the extra motion/temp sensor is useless so I just used a 3M command strip. It's a very easy to program system and you can get a ton of information about run-time and efficiency after a full calendar month has passed. I do like the auto-away/home feature as rarely does anybody follow their own program that much. The only possible negative is our dog (~80lbs) does occasionally trigger the motion sensor on the main unit so it will think there's somebody home even when we're not.

Excellent replacement vs prior Trane Comfortlink
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a replacement for our 5 year old Trane Comfortlink II XL950 thermostat which not only would no longer connect wirelessly and even began to alter temperature settings. We have had the Ecobee 3 now for 1 month. With the small room sensor, placed in our family room, the whole house temperature has been much more even than the Trane ever provided. Minor adjustments as might be desired are very easy to do. I love the access to the weather. Only once did that seem off for "current outside temp". SDG&E recognizes it for rebates under the Energy Alerts Program. Over all it has been an excellent change.

Remote Sensor Included
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to program and view info on the BIG screen. One remote sensor was included with the 'stat. This alone made the purchase worthwhile since our home thermostat is in the living room, where no one goes -- thus confusing the activity sensor on the old Nest. Now, with the remote sensor of the EcoBee, an accurate reading of people moving (or not moving) in the active rooms of the home is done and there is virtually no "freezing/too hot" problem, as we had with the Nest. Either will save you money, and both are configurable from Mac or Windows computers and OSX and Android pads and phones. Love my EcoBee !

Great Thermostat

A little clunky, but reliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Previously I had a Nest, but the problem was that the sensor in it would often see me as away when I was in another room, rarely passing by its location. The only alternative was to buy other Nest products - and we all know how expensive that gets. So I switched to the Ecobee3. It uses remote sensors that aren't as near as expensive to buy as the Nest were, plus it can leverage HomeKit if you have a newer Apple TV for home/away use. Works with Siri, reliably recognizes where I'm at and keeps the house comfortable. Little tougher installation than the Nest, and a little clunkier UI design, but it does work.

Good, but can be difficult to get wire properly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two of these units. In hooking it up, I didn't notice in the instructions that the common wire needs to come from the air conditioning unit in cases where you have two transformers (most homes in the northeast us with oil heat have separate heat and a/c). This worked well for one of my units when I finally figured that out. However, there is no common hookup for my other a/c unit. I am likely getting it replaced due to age anyways, but if you have older units, be sure to check about a common before buying and spending hours trying to get it to work. As far as operation goes, it is simple to use and gives great data. the home and away feature needs a bit of tweaking by ecobee as it seems to stay in home mode for hours after I leave the house. I haven't had time to call them to figure this out yet. I would like to give 3.5 stars because of the challenges in hooking these things up but gave it 4 because it does work so well when finally installed.

Love the Ecobee
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really easy to install and the app is easy to navigate. Nice to not have to worry about remembering to adjust the temperature when we leave the house and as we go to bed.

Best smart thermostat by far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying we had a nest in our last house. It was good, but it had it's shortcomings. We decided to try the Ecobee in the new house, and we've been really happy with it so far. Perhaps not as "smart" as the nest, but easier to read, program and manipulate. Having a second sensor is great too. Working from home, the nest often thought we weren't home, and cranked the heat down. The remote sensor for the ecobee is in the new office, and it has made a difference. No more realizing it's getting cold and having to go walk through the dining room to get nessie to realize we're still home.

Awesome thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose this over the Nest based on recommendations from friends and online reviews. The touch screen and interface are awesome. I love that I can change settings from my phone when I'm at work in case my girlfriend forgets to turn off the AC. Definitely worth the money.

Good unit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecobee is great although it was a bit difficult to install. We had to climb into out attic and use the "bonus" piece offered on our unit. What I like is that I am able to set it up on automatic so it will switch from the air conditioner to the heater without my guidance. You just set the low and the high for the temperature you like and leave it.

Best thermostat on the market! Saves money too!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The attachable sensors are key: It's what makes this thermostat the best on the market. It's the most accurate and effiencient thermostat out there and saves me money too! I'm glad I invested in this thermostat. Love it. Only wish I would've bought it sooner.

Great for thermostat control freaks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup, great online support. After only one week of use my AC spends significantly less time operating. Taking off one star for the limited range of the remote sensors. Optimum placement in our master bedroom puts the remote sensor out of range.

Excellent Thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We decided to get 2 of these since the Nest was out of stock. They look great on the walls and were very easy to install. Had some weird issues with using them with apple home, but after tweaking a few settings and removing them from apple home they are working like a charm. When changing the temp on the app for whatever reason its always seems to never registers the actual temp its like one off so you have to go back in the app and slide it 1 degree lower than you actually want it, very minor annoyance. They work great with the amazon echo dot we purchased.

Never thought I'd love a thermostat!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been interested in Smart Home technology but didn't know where to start. Through rebates offered by the local power and gas companies--combined with Best Buy's amazing price--making the jump to a smart thermostat became a no-brainer. I looked long and hard at the Nest thermostat. It seems to be more popular and prevalent but I wanted a thermostat that would work with the Apple ecosystem (read: my iPhone, iPad, etc.). One of the things I love about this thermostat is the fact that it comes with an extra sensor (with options to purchase more). This means that my main unit sits where my previous thermostat is located but I can also place an additional sensor upstairs in one of the warmest rooms of our home (during the summer). The fact that this thermostat averages the temperatures across both sensors means that our home feels more comfortable more consistently throughout. I didn't think it would work so well but it does--and we couldn't be happier. I wouldn't consider myself a handyman, nor would I consider myself savvy when it comes to installation. But the videos and instructions were simple enough for me to follow. I had no trouble--and that is a big plus for me. I love the Smart features. I love the fact that I can have the thermostat pay attention to where I am and "follow" me so that the temperatures where I am match what I want. I also love the fact that the sensors allow the indoor temperatures to change when they sense no one is present in the home, thus saving money. My previous non-smart thermostat allowed me to program different times for different temperatures. This one allows that, too, but I don't have to do as much work. In fact, I just let the sensors do the work and don't mess with different times for different days. In short, this thermostat has made our lives easier. My kids love the chance to see the outside temperature. I love the fact that it tracks outdoor temperatures and determines how outdoor temps affect indoor performance--and adjusts things accordingly. Brilliant. I also love the fact that I can get monthly reports on my indoor heating and cooling. And, while I was skeptical about it, I have to admit that my power usage has truly improved. I never thought I'd love (or rave) about a thermostat. But this one has influenced me to make that confession.

Like it so much I bought two
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was given a Nest for Christmas and immediately began to wonder whether I would want to install it or exchange it for the Ecobee3. What sold me on this particular product was the fact that it is HomeKit compatible, is future proofed with expansion slot, and it has the capability of being paired with sensors which can be placed in other rooms. I was so happy with my decision that I went out and bought another unit for my downstairs HVAC. The schedules and the sensors work flawlessly. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in smart thermostats.

Great set of features & price!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd been debating these for a year, and made the decision just in time before they sold out across the board! I installed them myself; the directions were pretty good. The software is interesting; it's been a month or so and I'm still not entirely sure when it follows the programming I set, and when it decides that since it knows I'm home, it should override the settings. I should do some research to figure that out. But overall I love that I can set it down when I go away for a week but forgot... And turn it up before I head home.

Great product the second time around.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the features of this thermostat. It integrates well with my SmartThings and the remote sensor helps keep the second floor cool while we sleep. My only gripe is that my first unit failed within 48 hours. I've had great luck since with the replacement.
