This has changed the way I use my system.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has changed the way I use my system. I now am able to keep a close eye on my energy usage the HVAC system has used. I think all thermostats should come with remote sensors, my home now feels evenly cool on all levels and I now only monitor the upstairs sensors during sleep mode so we are not wasting energy cooling the downstairs to my sleep temperature.

Great smart thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prior to purchasing, I found a lot of reviews comparing this one with the Nest thermostat. It seems as though the nest thermostat is better for those that just want to install it and let it do it's thing. I am the type that likes to analyze our usage to get the best out of it and I have to say, i'm glad I went with the Ecobee 3 thermostat. It gives you detailed analysis through their website and my favorite thing was the extra thermostat that came with it. I place it in my daughters room because for some reason it is always the coldest or hottest room in the house. With the Follow Me function, it averages the temperatures for the main and the extra thermostat (if it detects movement) so that the entire house is at a consistent temperature, not just the room where the main thermostat is, like the Nest does. The Away feature is also great, because if there is no motion detected by either thermostat after a given time, it will adjust the set temperatures so that you are not keeping the house cool when you're not even home to enjoy it. It can also be connected to a Smart home system or with IFTTT/Tasker. I highly recommend this thermostat for anyone trying to limit their energy consumption or those that like to tinker with smart electronics.

Ecobee is love
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy install! My first ever electrical project. Took a little more than an hour and couple guess-and-checks b/c my furnace is from 1972, but this device has saved me hundreds since July. I recommend to everyone. Love that you can turn on the AC/heat before leaving work and come home to the perfect temp. It’s a beautiful little unit.

Great Thermostat-Very Smart
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the sensor feature, we keep it in the family room so it keeps that room comfortable. I have noticed a big difference in comfort but at the same time I have noticed that my system does not keep running for too long like the old thermostat made it run. With Comed and Nicor offering rebates it is a no brainer to make this switch, very easy to install.

Great buy especially for uneven room use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I looked at both the NEST and Ecobee. I also own a basic Honeywell already. The Ecobee was best for me because the thermostat is in the kitchen/living area and I work at home in an office where I go long stretches without going through the kitchen. The remote sensor knows I am home, and doesn't put the thermostat in 'away' mode without any other actions on my part! I have had the device 6 weeks, and so far it is as advertised and working great (I liked the style and included back plate which allowed me to easily cover the old thermostat space, too.

Best AC Control Panel

Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I debated whether I wanted to get a nest or the ecobee and what sold me was Apple HomeKit and the additional sensor to place in another room. This sensor helps with keeping our home at the right temperature by averaging the living room and master bedroom. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a smart thermostat.

Easy to setup, works great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecobee 3 works incredibly well. It does a lot of the same things that a certain other smart thermostat claims to do, and it does them quite well. It learns the heating and cooling dynamics of your house and will fetch outside temperature data from the internet to determine how best to maintain your comfort settings. There are, however, some things it could do or do better with software updates. I think the hardware is capable, it just needs the software to match. Installation was easy. The mounting plate has labeled connectors for each wire coming from your system, and a built-in level to help you put it on the wall nicely. Once the wires are put in the correct connectors, pop the Ecobee 3 onto the mounting plate and within seconds it will begin its software setup. If you have an iPhone, the HomeKit-enabled Ecobee 3 can use that to connect to your network instead of you having to type in the password on the screen. It saved some time and was simple to use. The Ecobee 3 comes with a remote sensor, powered by a button cell, that you can put anywhere in the house. The sensor communicates directly with the thermostat (not via Wi-Fi), so range is a consideration. But in my house, I've had no issues. Both the thermostat and the remote sensor monitor occupancy (with a motion sensor) in addition to the room's temperature. The thermostat averages the temperature readings from itself and each sensor you have (you can buy more of them). It uses a weighted average, weighing occupied rooms more heavily than unoccupied rooms. Now, here's where the software falls down. Let's say you have a sensor in your basement. Even if it's an unoccupied room, the thermostat still knows what the temperature is. Now let's say it's *just* warm enough in the occupied rooms that the system is going to turn on the AC. If the basement is cool enough, it could probably get away with just turning on the fan to recirculate some of that cool air. It won't do that, though. The hardware is all there, assuming the processor is powerful enough. It just needs the software to enable it. Still it has a lot of promise, and it works so much better than my old thermostat as-is. Even if they don't improve a single thing about it in the future, I'm a happy owner.

Great! Averages temperatures and saves money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We live in a townhome with 2 stories + basement. Upstairs is always warmer than the main floor (the basement has no HVAC vents) so we purchased this thermostat and put the sensor in the hallway upstairs. I set the thermostat so that on the sleep setting it only reads the temperature of the upstairs sensor therefore making it so that the heater doesn't turn on in the middle of the night making it way too warm upstairs to sleep comfortably. We are waiting for summer to see how it does with the air conditioner but we expect it to do very well. So far, it has saved us money this winter because the heater runs much less than it used to with the old thermostat. We highly recommend this thermostat if you have problems with some areas of your house being hotter/colder than other parts (especially where your thermostat is located). I would say it works very well for 2 story homes. During the day it averages the temperature between the main sensor and the secondary sensor rather than only reading from one sensor. The main floor will most always be a degree or 2 cooler than upstairs so having the extra sensors makes a big difference.

Great thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thermostat. I had a Nest and like the functionality on this is so much better and more granular. The remote sensors can even out the zone. The other nice feature is that you can hook up one accessory per thermostat. If you have a humidifier, dehumidifier, ventilator, etc., it can be controlled with the thermostat.
