Of all the WiFi connected thermostats out there, the ecobee3 seems to be the smartest, full featured option out there. The intuitive interface is fresh and clean, with all of the data and settings just where you need them to be. The remote sensors make the system even more efficient in that the ecobee3 detects when you're actually home and doesn't simply go by a pre-determined schedule (after all, your life isn't set to a pre-determined schedule, right?) The web portal and smartphone app round out the package by providing easy configuration and control at home or away.

I like the thermostat very much. Installation is straight forward. For homes without C wire, power extender kit that is provided will help to power the thermostat. No more low battery signs. Installing on a dry wall is simple but my home has a box to mount the thermostat and I was little tricky because no hardware is provided for mounting on a box. Usage is simple and there are many advanced options not available on other (I have used Nest for 1 year). I am not a big fan of Setting up the schedule in ecobee. Nest has a very simple schedule set up process. Overall happy with the purchase but would like the scheduling part to be made more simple. Having a sensor is very helpful if you live i a multi level home.

I love being able to control the thermostat from anywhere! It is nice if you are in bed and you need to adjust the temperature but don't feel like getting up. Looks nice on the wall as well.

The remote sensor is revolutionary. Have you ever been on the other side of your house from the thermostat and found it was 10 degrees different than where the thermostat is? YES! The best part about the Ecobee3 is that it's remote sensor (code name = lil'bee) can be put in that area of your house where your old thermostat used to neglect. Then the Ecobee3 is so versatile, you can set up when you want it to care about the temperature in that room. So no use heating your bedroom all day if you only sleep in there. I have a drafty house where air doesn't circulate well to the bedroom. I put the remote sensor in there and set it to only work when the schedule is on sleep. It is the best temperature control I've ever had sleeping in this house! I'm sorry, but it's hard to put a price on a good nights sleep ... but I guess it's just the cost of an Ecobee3!! A little dose of reality ... installation is super easy IF your furnace is compatible. There is a kit to make up for the missing wire likely at your current thermostat, but it's more complicated to actually tie the wires into your furnace if it doesn't have a Common C spot on the circuit board. If you have this issue (like I did), do some research online to familiarize yourself with a furnace like your model and where you can tap into a common c. I found it was best to splice the existing common c wire from the 24v transistor to the circuit board and tie in the Ecobee3. Your solution may vary. But again, it's only this complicated if your furnace doesn't have a Common C spot for a wire. Even with this install fun, it is by far the best smart thermostat out there!

Excellent thermostat. More refined control than with Nest. With only 1 exception bot hopefully that will be addressed. The Main display actually displays current temperature in Large as opposed to Nest which shows the set temperature. Other than refined settings, what really sets it apart is the remote sensors which allow for more accurate desired Temperature. I also hear that ecobee actually listens to their clients and implements features and enhancements requested. overall very happy with the ecobee

I would really reccomend the ecobee. I purchased it about 3 months ago and have been loving it ever since! It is probably the easiest thermostat I have ever installed as well - it took me 5 minutes! The sensors that come with the ecobee are really what makes it special. It is the only thermostat on the market that can sence temperature in multiple rooms and then average it out so that the whole comfortable!

I presume you have read all the cold hard stats about this device and its rivals, so no point in repeating that info. The best things are the multiple sensors, so it can balance which rooms are in use, but you can also schedule it to ignoring the downstairs rooms at night, or favor the babies bedroom. The phone app allows you to constantly monitor the temps and events back home and the graphs give you info on temps and activities of the furnace and AC etc, so you can be sure it is doing as you plan. Combine that with the expected cost savings as the algorithms learn about your home and it truly becomes a smart purchase.

    Returned it

It's good...when it works as its supposed to! Called the help desk several times as needed help with some of the settings and had a question with the initial set up (it turned out I was doing it right but with the wires I connected it told me I had a furnace (I don't)...the ecobee help desk told me "yes that's fine, ignore it" - they even looked at photo of my wiring). Also called them regarding it turning on when it wasn't supposed to...turned out that was a SMART setting turned on, as it was attempting to pre-cool before a given time...so that was easy to turn off. BTW, their customer service is NOT 24hrs nor available on the weekend. I think its something like 6amET to 10pm ET M-F. I ended up returning it and getting a Nest instead because after a couple of days it started to drop the network connection. Then it started to happen every day for the next few days....then every two days or so. The only way to get it to reconnect to the network is to remove the faceplate and reboot it. Support said I may have to assign it a static IP. No other device in the house had any network problems. Thermostat was on wall in hallway and router is in my office about 10ft away so it wasn't due to a weak signal etc. In the end I just got fed up with it and brought it back after a month. BTW the whole HomeKit integration is a bit of a swiz...all it means is you can control it with Siri...which doesn't always work. I could change the temp no problem but couldn't get Siri to have it resume the regular schedule. All you really need is the APP and that's enough...forget SIRI. Also the display is nice but in reality, who really needs the weather on the thermostat? Everyone has a cell phone in their pocket with a weather app on it. Depending on your decor it could fit in well, we are finding the Nest to be more aesthetically pleasing...and it doesn't drop the network connection constantly....so far!

GREAT UPGRADE FOR ANY OLD AND NEW THERMOSTAT

    Posted .

Great upgrade for aI change from an old thermostat to this new Ecobee 3. At first impression is a good change, gives you the “future” feeling and touchscreen has a nice size (icons) for big fingers. Ecobee 3 sensors is the cherry on top, you can buy whatever smart thermostat you like, but this sensors just hit the homerun, if you have a small department, you might not receive all the benefits of sensors, but in a small-medium size house (2000-25000 sq) you can really benefit from them as they will take temperature and humidity of that room, oh, and will also know where you are so it will turn on/off your hvac depending on your settings. I strongly recommend this product for an upgrade on any old thermostat (or new, yes, this is an upgrade; did I mention the sensors?) The only down side and that why I have 4 out of 5, its their windows phone support, we don’t have app, just a third party one which is $1.99 and im too cheap to pay more. If Ecobee gives a free app for WP users, I will change my review to 5 stars.ny old and new thermostat

    why its better than nest

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As a former nest user, I had issues with the lack of remote temperature sensors as my thermostat is in a less traveled part of my house. I attempted to buy some other accessories and tried many things to work around nest's lack of capability and finally took it back and got the ecobee3. Installation was almost the same, quick and easy, however in 5 minutes I had my ideal temp setup and that's about all I have had to do. Great simple efficiency, I highly recommend!

Fantastic and innovative tech for our daily lives

I absolutely love my ecobee 3 system. It has already made a big difference in keeping the temperature evened out between the upstairs and downstairs by circulating the fan consistently as needed. It used to be HOT and COLD. Now it's more lukewarm between them. I started out with the one remote sensor, however as an anniversary gift, my partner got me two more to add even more intelligence to the system. I'm looking forward to my first IQ report which should be in the next few days. It wants one full calendar month before it'll generate it which makes sense. A new version of the firmware is coming soon, so I'm looking forward to some new features, although I haven't learned all of the existing ones yet. But one great part is, my gas company had a 100 dollar mail in rebate for this, so it made my decision even easier, and I'm glad I did. And it integrates with wink, echo, and Siri among others. I'd say of you're on the fence, go for it and get one, especially if you have a rebate to make it cheaper (mine was back to me in 1 week).

Finally! A smart thermostat for the average person

I've bought several "smart" t-stats over the years. Most were terrible...too hard to install, too ugly, too confusing for the average person. I bought this for my father, who has COPD and is sensitive to temperature and humidity, and also doesn't need to be moving around too much. It was super-easy to install and set-up. I love that the controls are intuitive while also allowing for substantial programming if desired. The remote sensors are great too. Now he can control his bedroom temperature without getting out of bed. It's a lovely looking design as well.

    Greatest Thermostat

First of all, I love this thermostat. It was faulty easy to self-install. Even though it took me about 4 hours, but it was an error on my part and it shouldn't have taken but about 1 hour. Advice, check wires and breaker before and after install. Back to business, the Ecobee3 is a must have for anyone who hates getting up walking to the thermostat in the middle of the night or early morning to adjust the temperature, anyone who likes to keep there home a certain temp while they are gone or who like to adjust it before a they arrive home after a vacation. I love the fact that I can adjust the temperature from my iPhone or wife's Samsung app. The app and thermostat also lets you see the weather. The small sensor is a nice add on also. We have one sensor in our room because it is always a few degrees hotter than the rest of my home. So we have it on at night so the thermostat can adverse out the thermostat and sensor temp to keep my bedroom at a comfortable level. You can also turn the sensor on and off and move it anywhere in your home. The ability to have a schedule set for everyday and various times throughout the day is a handy feature also. The thermostat also gives you a monthly report of how the thermostat has been running.

The Ecobee3 was a much-needed upgrade to my previous wifi thermostat. It is intuitive to use, and features room sensors that allow us humans to be more comfortable where we sleep and where we live. Installation was simple, and the installation guide has all the information you'll need. So far, the Ecobee3 works perfect with my Wink hub.

I was a Nest user for about a year and a half, and while it was functional, I always found myself wanting more. When my Nest failed catastrophically while my family was on vacation (the baseplate failed, locking the compressor on, essentially running the AC full blast for a week), I began searching for a better alternative and found the Ecobee3. The Ecobee3 has all the features I always found Nest to be missing, most notably remote sensors for more intelligent temperature control. I could not be happier after making the switch.

I have both a Nest 3 and and ecobee 3 in my home, one on each zone for comparison and have moved the thermostats between the 2 zones to compare heating efficiency The ecobee works better in either zone and provides a more even heating, which could be partially due to the addition of the remote sensor which i place in the coldest room Price being equal, like the ecobee 3 better. Not a big fan of Siri, so i don;t use it
