Five reasons I love my ecobees!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently installed 6 “ecobee smart thermostats with voice control” and I love them! It was a bigger project than anticipated, but well worth the effort. My Five Favorite Features 1.The ecobee comes with a remote temperature and occupancy sensor. My ecobee reads the temperature in the living room where I sit and ignores the temperature in the hall where the thermostat is. 2. The design of the ecobee touch screen is elegant. A dark rounded square screen displays the room temperature in large numbers along with the time of day, outdoor temperature, and a weather icon. When you walk up to the ecobee it comes alive and displays a slide for the setpoint and icons for quick Home/Away, detailed weather, voice control, and menus. 3. My six networked ecobees can be monitored and adjusted from an app or a web portal. 4. Ecobee lets you display helpful graphs of, for example, room temperature over time along with setpoint, outdoor temperature, and an indication of when the thermostat was calling for heat. See pictures at the end of this post. 5. Voice control is more useful than expected. I don’t have to be in a room to change the temperature. I just say “Hey Google, warm up the Master Bedroom” from anywhere. One complaint is that the slide for the setpoint never seems to wind up where I’m aiming. Comparison Shopping I bought the ecobee instead of the Nest Learning Thermostat because it includes a remote sensor and can produce energy reports and graphs. The ecobee thermostat dedicated power approach is more reliable than the Nest’s power stealing scheme. With the ecobee schedule, I am in control and I know what is going on. In contrast, a learning thermostat like the Nest could learn a wrong schedule or hide what it has learned. Installation and Setup The ecobee requires a “C” wire for 24 VAC power, which many HVAC systems already have. My old thermostats did not have a C wire. My five heat-only zones each had two unused wires running from the basement to the thermostat. With the help of tech support I bought two 24 VAC transformer and ran power to the ecobees on the C and Rc terminals. (Max 3 ecobees per transformer) For my one heat plus AC zone I found the C wire on the AC air handler and ran it to the ecobee on an unused white wire to the C terminal on the thermostat. I sent a photo of my air handler wiring to tech support and they sent it back annotated and talked me through it. See photo. Tech support was excellent - patient, knowledgeable, and helpful. Mounting the ecobee is simplified by a built-in bubble level. I used the optional back plate to cover over unpainted areas from the old thermostat. Setup was easy. The ecobee senses which terminals are in use and shows you a diagram to confirm. The hardest part was typing my WiFi password on the small screen. To pair the smart sensor with a thermostat use the app to scan a QR code on the sensor. Twelve ways I am Saving Energy I am running a schedule to turn down heat when rooms are unused. My old thermostats were so hard to program that I did not run a schedule. I am tweaking the schedule to turn down heat. It is so easy to program the schedule that I’ll jump in and tweak it if I see a chance to save a half hour of heat. I am turning down heat when I leave a room or when someone leaves the house. I just say “Hey Google, cool down the Living Room” even if I am already in another room. I am overriding the schedule. If we go to bed early, I say “Hey Google, good night” to turn down all zones. If we leave the house, I say “Hey Google, I’m leaving.” to run the “Away” settings. Ecobee senses if a room is unoccupied for a couple of hours and then runs the “Away”settings. I am warming rooms up just as I need them and only for as long as I need them. For example, before shower time “Hey Google, warm up the master bath” and after “Hey Google, turn on the master bath schedule.'' Constant monitoring allowed me to realize rooms were warm when they should not be - a problem with my flow-check valves. I will replace the flow-check valves on my boiler and eliminate this unwanted heat. I am not overheating rooms that are otherwise warmed up by human activities and electronics. The remote sensor reads the occupied room, not the unoccupied hallway. I am not relying on too-generous guesses about preheating. The ecobee learns how long it takes to bring a room up to temperature and if you say you want 65F at 6:00 am, the room will be at temperature then. By observing when the thermostat calls for each room and watching the outdoor temperature I am identifying which rooms lose heat the fastest and considering insulation. If I forget to turn down the heat, I can do so remotely anywhere and anytime from the app or the web portal. I can easily check if the heat was unnecessarily left on by asking "hey google, what does master bedroom say? Five ways I am more comfortable The remote sensor delivers the heat I want at my location. I can remotely preheat such as warming up the office from the gym as I finish my workout. “Smart Recovery” preheats a room so it is at temperature when the schedule calls for it. There are no longer hot spots in the house. I have the comfort of knowing what my system is doing when and seeing as much detail as I want. Voice Control: the Good and the Bad I was not excited about voice control when I bought the ecobee but it has turned out to be much more useful than expected. The ecobees have Alexa built in so you can talk directly to the thermostat and get a voice response. Alexa is a bit of a nag. The day after installation the I found the ecobees flashing turquoise and blue. I asked “Alexa, what’s up?” and she said there were new albums released by two of my favorite bands. So I turned off “shopping notifications” and the next day I got a different alert, this one green and relating to a news report. I just don’t want my thermostat to alert me unless it is HVAC related. I was already using Google Assistant so I use it instead of Alexa. As a result, I must speak to one of the smart speakers I have in my home or speak to my phone. I also find the language more natural: “Hey Google, what does kitchen say?” versus “Alexa, ask ecobee the kitchen temperature.” Finally, Google Assistant lets me group commands into routines. For example, when I say “OK Google, I’m leaving” it turns down all six thermostats and turns off two lights. The ecobee is the best product I’ve bought this year and I recommend it to anyone who does not mind doing a bit of wiring. Who knew you could love a thermostat?

Great decision!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my Ecobee! Having the capacity to change the temperature settings at my finger tips has been wonderful. Considering the fact many power companies are offering rebates for purchasing this type of thermostat, you can’t go wrong.

Good Looking and Great Working!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has thermostat has been a wonderful purchase! I wish I would've done it sooner. My AC doesn't run nearly as much as it did with my old thermostat and my house seems to be cooler with it running less. I have definitely noticed a difference on my energy usage. Lots of great features. This unit looks amazing on the wall and is very well built. I am only marking this as a "good value" due to the initial cost. But it is worth every penny so far. I had a bit of a snag while installing this due to the fact I was unaware our house has a heat pump unit. The wiring diagram in the instructions was not blowing cold air. I called the Ecobee Tech Support line and the rep was very knowledgeable and thorough. He walked me through the correct wiring and it works like a charm. Even with the 10-15 minute phone call, personal troubleshooting, removal of old thermostat and install of new the total install time was about 40 minutes. The installation instructions are very easy to follow.

Easy to use and great features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our third “smart” thermostat. Tried Honeywell and Hive. Neither worked very well, Honeywell was kind of dated and the Hive was useless, wouldn’t trigger the AC or heat outside the desired range. The ecobee keeps the house a nice consistent temperature, easy to use and setup. There are a lot of features that we don’t use or need but nice to know it’s packed with features. They also look great, which the wife appreciates :) Highly recommend

Great thermostat, with a few minor difficulties
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, Fantastic thermostat. Only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is the user interface and connection with certain devices could be slightly better. My fiance has had some trouble with her app staying connected to the thermostat, or saying our AC was on when it really wasn't. However, this is MUCH improved from my Nest I had previously. When comparing this to the Nest, I believe this unit has much more functionality and is able to connect to SmartThings natively instead of needing to use a workaround in webCoRE. I use SmartThings as my main hub, and have noticed the commands through this have been extremely fast, and consistent with no drops in connection or missed routines/automations. Not to mention the additional sensors you can add double as motion sensors in SmartThings and webCoRE which are a massive plus. I have disabled the Alexa Smart Speaker in the unit itself as I have an Echo Show in our kitchen which picks up the voice commands along with this device. And, since there is no ESP on this device (the ability to recognize which device is closest to the user and respond with only one speaker and not the entire house), both speakers will be talking at the same time, and they are never synced! Given the choice between this thermostat, the Honeywell T9, and the Nest, I will 100% buy this again.

Easy installation and HomeKit integration
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgrade from an entry level Nest device. This took minutes to replace the Nest. The additional room monitor works very well in my bedroom where it would often get hot or cold through the night. The HomeKit integration was very welcome as I have many HomeKit devices. And it’s a very stylish device.

The best
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought one of these for our old home and recently sold the home. We moved into a new home recently that had two air conditioning units and three different thermostats. The thermostats were not working very well and they were honeywell's. They were hard to program and seem to always give us problems what I love about this thermostat though in our new home even more so was that it was able to connect to the local system and can do the automatic updates for temperatures. We live in Arizona where APS power give this credits if we use a certain program. The new thermostat automatically adjust. We can still change it but it's all dialed in. The ease of using these thermostats are so great because you can just look at them on the app. I also like the fact that you can change the sensors for each rim to stay where they are and make everything customizable. In our old home we would use the thermostat to also stream music on and uses for Alexa.

Great concept, but I question reliability.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First. I love the ease of use, and integration with Alexa. It provides a lot of information and energy efficiency. The display and general aesthetics are pleasant, and the package includes a sensor and a Power extender kit for those without a C wire. Luckily, I had a C wire already ran but it was not hooked up to the HVAC or old Thermostat. I found where the C wire hooked up in the HVAC and installed the Ecobee. Installation was easy and the software setup/account setup was as easy as following the simple directions. Unfortunately, less than 2 months of use and the internal temperature probe failed. Luckily the system is smart enough to utilize the external sensors for a failover. After emailing Ecobee a few times for support (took 2 weeks) they sent a new device and an RMA return label. So far the replacement is working great. Overall, I still trust Ecobee to support the Amazon system more than NEST with Google. Google constantly pushes out new platforms then abandons them after they collected enough data.

Love my new thermostat
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had it for a couple of months and so far it has worked with no problems. It was easy to install. I did have two problems which were on my end. My first issue was my "C" wire wasn't connected on the other end. So, when I connected my thermostat it wouldn't power on (I checked the voltage on each wire and when I got up on my attic I saw my "C" wire was just loose.). My second problem was my WiFi name had symbols (Which I believe was the problem), but when it would display it on my thermostat it wasn't the same, I called technical support which they directed me to contact my internet provider. Which I didn't, but the tried helping me and even called me back to follow up. So, I created a WiFi Guest with a different name to check my theory and wouldn't you know it. It worked!

Good replacement for Nest
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ecobee replaced a Nest thermostat. The UI isn't quite as intuitive as the physical turn of the nest for less technical people, but the voice control and HomeKit integration more than make up for that. There were some hiccups getting the thermostat setup and added to HomeKit, but after a reset things have been very solid. The remote smart sensor is a great feature, providing 2nd room temperature and occupancy monitoring. The biggest reason I switched was based on Nest appearing more and more to be a conduit for Google to lock you into their ecosystem, which I have no interest in. If they had kept 3rd part integrations I'd likely have stuck with a newer Nest, but with those changes I looked elsewhere and am very happy with the newer features of this thermostat that I didn't get with the Nest.

Many features, Easy installation
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this due to a really-good-deal $100 rebate from the state. I ordered it online through Best Buy and I could apply the rebate code right on the page when paying. Installation was easy, but configuring it a little bit more challenging as it has many features and settings. But once it is running, it runs without any further changes (unless necessary). The box comes with a remote sensor (smart sensor) that can also detect occupancy of a room and sends the data wirelessly to the Ecobee. Later, I ended up buying 2 more sensors to be put in another bedroom and office room. The thing I love the most is the capability to monitor it online via app on my smart phone as well as web (which we could even download the raw data in the form of CSV format). I still have issue where the Ecobee loses power once a while, but according to the Ecobee customer support page, it is due to my furnace cutting off power when it detects backpressure or overheating in its burner.

Pricey, but a good addition so far
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had this a couple of weeks and am still getting used to and figuring out all the features, but I like the smart thermostat so far. The built-in Alexa can be useful if you don't otherwise have an Echo or Echo dot nearby. Keep in mind your thermostat has to have a "C" wire to make this work. I had to run a line for mine to add it and it wasn't overly difficult. The thermostat comes with a kit to convert another wire to the required C, but I think you lose your manual fan control and it only works automatically - keep that in mind if it's important to you. I think most all smart thermostats will be this way due to similar power requirements.

Love this!!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this Ecobee a few weeks ago and love it!!! Installation was super easy. It is now connected with Alexa and we just use voice commands. We travel some and as we are pulling out of the driveway and tell Alexa to change the temperature and when we’re on our way way I tell her to turn it back to normal. Very easy.

So far so good. Easy to install.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided to purchase this because it already came with the extra sensor. Master bedroom always seems to be a few degrees hotter than the rest of the house. So far the house seems more evenly cooled. Also noticed the house feels colder with the temp a couple degrees higher than the old thermostat. Directions for installation were super easy to follow and the app had additional videos. Interface was easy to use and understand and had it all set up in and running in about an hour.

Nice smart thermostat
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought when $50 off. With local energy rebates, made it a good buy. Easy install and I like having second sensor for the bedroom. It has Alexa built in eliminating a need for a hub. Alexa also uses the display for some things like when asking for a timer. The only problems I have had have been because of some unexpected cable internet outages.
