I have had this for about 4 months now and never have had a problem. Install was SUPER easy. Set up was also easy!! I love that I can play my music from pandora by linking my phone and my Alexa account. I easily set up a schedule for temperature control. The app is also flawless. Shows everything that the main unit does. I sometimes have a shoddy internet connection and other things will lose it but not once have a lost connection with the ecobee. Definitely well worth the price!

On Christmas 2017 my friend gave me and installed for me the Ecobee in my NJ home. This year I purchased the latest version for my Alabama home. I installed it with my uncle in ten minutes. The hardest part was to connect it to my wifi - that took me another 10 minutes. Once it was set - it was the best. I can talk to it and with the App I was able to change the temperatures to my houses from any place.

I have two HVAC systems, one with a C-wire, and one without. I was able to use the power kit that comes with the unit to install quickly on the system without a C-wire. Installed even fast on the system already sporting a C-wire. The presence functionality (smartphone location awareness) with geofencing effectively addresses the benefits I had with a previously installed Honeywell thermostat. The temperature and motion sensors in the thermostat together with those in the remote sensors (easily paired), work well in recognizing where in the home people are, and direct heating/cooling there. Eco+ software feature does a nice job monitoring utilization data, and automatically making schedule/temperature recommendations and adjustments. The schedule is easy to set up and modify (including adding/removing unique blocks of time for any given day). The units work well with my Samsung Smartthings environment, though it would be nice if it integrated a bit more directly (zwave or zigbee) and allowed more direct use of the motion sensors. They are visible to Smartthings, but I found that work more best as slow-to-respond, general occupancy sensors than responsive motion sensors. I was hopeful, but I ended up just using Smartthings motion sensors instead (cheap and effective). Finally, I bought an extra couple of sensors which paired easily, hide away nicely, and improve the overall "smartness" of this great thermostat. Just buy it already!

    Feature-packed smart thermostat

This is a feature-packed smart thermostat and installation and setup are easy for the average DIYer. The included remote motion and temperature sensor can be configured to average temps in the rooms that are occupied to assure maximum comfort. Different comfort programs can be configured to use any or all sensors. Ecobee easily integrates with larger smart home ecosystems including; Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, Wink, Haiku, Logitech Harmony, Vera, Control 4 and others. The integrated Alexa/Google/Siri service makes this already great smart thermostat even smarter. The speaker has been upgraded with this version of Ecobee. Ecobee has the most comprehensive energy reports of all its competitors. The feature is called Home IQ and it’s accessible through the web console. You can use Home IQ to access up to 18 months of data on system activity, fan activity, sensor temperature and sensor motion. Lastly, the Ecobee mobile app setup is straightforward and easy to install and navigate. This smart thermostat exceeds my expectations and is a key component of my automated home.

I love this thermostat. Installation was super easy! It works well with Apple HomeKit - and I like being able to get info from Alexa. It’s very easy to program using either the app or voice. The extra room sensor is much more useful than I thought it would be. Best Buy had the best price and I like their return policy.

Got this for basically $25 dollars (before taxes) after my electric and gas rebates and $50 off when it was on sale. Can't really say if it is better or worst than the Nest or any other smart thermostat in terms of features as I have never used any others but have been very satisfied with my purchase of it. However, there are three reasons I picked it over the Nest. 1) It had a built in Alexa speaker, and I have a few Echos in my house but not in the dining room where the previous thermostat was located. So now I can have music in that room too! Can also adjust the temperature in house by telling Alexa too. Believe the Nest has voice recognition but not a speaker capable of playing music, but I could be wrong there. 2) The dining room and our living room have about 2-3 degree difference between them, so I like that this came with a individual room sensor that I could put in the living room and that would adjust the temp of the room according to occupancy. My previous thermostat tried to adjust to the dining room which is usually hotter or colder than the living room, as it has the most windows in it but is typically not occupied much. Now it's a lot more comfortable in the living room. Nest has one, but it is a separate purchase. 3) Personally think the display and how it looks are better than the Nest and the other smart thermostats.

Great Buy: ecobee smart themostat with Alexa

The ecobee smart thermostat was recommended primarily because of my older wiring setup to the air handler (specifically, I don't have the c-wire). After doing a bit of review, the primary reason why I went with ecobee was because of the Power Extender Kit (PEK) and, I didn't have to fiddle with run any additional wires to the from the air handler to the thermostat. The setup was a bit of back and forth, but I will advise anyone planning to use the PEK to go by the instructions in the printed manual and not the one in the mobile app. I did find some inconsistency and unnecessarily prolonged the installation process. Besides that, once I got the thermostat set up and configured, it works like a champ (about 2 months in)! While I haven't spent much time with tweaking (and let's be real, a smart thermostat should be smart, right?), the ecobee thermostat and website provide lots of detail about usage and configuration. I did enable the eco+ feature but I haven't really noticed any drawbacks from doing so. In fact, because I enabled it, I was able to get a rebate check from local utility company. One last point, I wouldn't buy this product for the Alexa integration unless that's my smart home ecosystem, which it isn't. The novelty of having alexa built-in wore off within a week or two.

The extra $20 really makes a difference

I was debating getting this model or the ecobee4 since both have the same functions and the 4th gen was on sale for $229. I decided to buy this one and compare it to my friend’s ecobee4 & return it if I wasn’t happy with it. I will say... paying that extra $20 makes a huge difference! The built-in Amazon Echo has much better voice recognition, the device interface operates SUPER quickly (whereas the 3rd & 4th gen have a slight lag when using the interface), and the room sensor included is a newer generation and has a MUCH a better rated battery life than the previous generation of sensors. For all of you smart home enthusiasts out there, the room sensor plays very nicely with Apple HomeKit. The cool thing about these sensors is that they provide more data than just temperature... they’re also occupancy sensors! I purchased 2 additional room sensors along with this. Not only are they providing a more accurate temperature throughout the house... they also save more electricity by turning off the lights in the room they’re placed in when no occupancy is detected (configured via Automations under the Home app)! I also have one of the sensors set to turn on the lights dimmed at night for when I get up to grab a glass of water. Super convenient. It gets better... This thermostat has a “Follow Me” feature, where it utilizes all available room sensors to determine which rooms are & are not occupied. For the unoccupied rooms, the thermostat will not focus on cooling those; it will focus only on the rooms in use! I can definitely say, my A/C has much lesser runtime than it did with my previous smart thermostat (Nest 2nd Gen). I’ve owned this for less than a month & I cannot wait to see how much money this will save me on my monthly electric bill

I own 2 nest thermostats and prefer the Ecobee over them. This model comes with a power adapter for older HVAC units that utilize only 4-wires the existing thermostat or have no "C" wire aka common wire. Works great, connects to internet easily, and having Alexa built is awesome when I ask her to tell the dog a joke or start my truck. Would recommend this over other thermostats.

Easy to install with very clear instructions. It included wire labels to make life easier. Easy to configure. I have added two additional sensors. The whole package is doing everything I asked for. I'm looking forward to see all of the data analytics, but I haven't used it long enough; it needs one month of usage.

Easy to install smart thermostat. Easy to configure, works great. Nice to be able to see whether or not it's running while I'm away (or to turn it off if I'm going to be gone an extended period of time). The room detectors also work great as part of the smartthings home monitoring solution as motion detectors.

purchased the new ecobee smart thermostat with voice because I'm one of those that likes the latest technology. Honestly I've not noticed a lot of obvious difference yet between my ecobee 4 & the new one. The old sensors work fine with it & are very easy IMO to migrate over. The new sensor is much different to install & stumped us for a bit because it doesn't install at all like old sensors. You use the app to install new ones & the thermostat is used for sync of old ones. I did have one room that frequently temporarily lost connection due to distance I assume. Only been a short time but no loss of connectivity yet with new smart sensor. The thermostat is fairly easy to install & Ecobee has great tech support so far. This thermostat can setup more automatic like the nest but also has a lot of manual configuration if you want it. I chose manual due to my system being duel fuel but since we have natural gas we prefer to bypass heat pump usage. This is simple with Nest but more complicated with Ecobee. I had to contact support for help on bypassing the heat pump. They were great!

Great thermostat with we thought out features, simple enough for everyone in the house but with all the advanced features you could want. The sensors make a huge difference, and surprisingly the Alexa built in is one of our favorite features (thought it might just be gimmicky, but it is awesome!)

I really enjoy the ecobee. I was so happy to get rid of Google Nest. It’s much more user friendly and the integration with Apple HomeKit is great. The install and set up were easy and it looks a lot less intrusive than the Nest. Much more cleaner looking. The one improvement that should be made, is their app. It’s still good though. If you are deep in the Apple ecosystem and use HomeKit, this is a great buy. I can’t speak for the Alexa feature because Alexa is trash so I didn’t even bother to set that function up. Plus I don’t need Alexa listening to everything in the house.

This smart thermostat is very easy to install. The quick start guide and the step by step instructions through the app make it easy to follow even if you don't have any prior experience or knowledge. Connecting to your WiFi is easy, especially if you have an iOS device. It is a little more tricky with Android. The sensor is great and allows you to monitor temperature in another room which is especially good if that room runs hot or cold. It has Alexa built-in, but you cannot rename the device to respond to another name. This can cause a problem if you have another Alexa device nearby. If you have another Alexa device that you already use, this product does not really give you much more benefit than the lower priced ecobee lite. I am pretty sure you can buy the lower price ecobee and a sensor or two for less than this model. This is a great option if you do not have an Alexa device or need one for upstairs.

I replaced a Nest Learning Thermostat with this one and a couple things stood out: First, the installation is easier. Nest makes it very hard to get straightforward install instructions and forced me to call someone in India, whereas with the ecobee, it's fairly straightforward and I was up and running within minutes. Second, it works with other home automation platforms, like Samsung SmartThings. That was a big part of why I wanted to upgrade, and it's much easier to control via SmartThings than the Nest was via its own app! And since it's part of SmartThings you can do a lot more automations even using the Samsung multipurpose sensors to monitor temperature in several places. Which brings me to the last piece -- the room sensor is really nifty. It has a motion sensor so when you inevitably end up spending time in that one room where the A/C flows poorly, it can automatically compensate because it can tell when you're in the room. Neat.
