Far too complicated for application
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First I chose ecobee because it wasn't affiliated with either google or Am_z. I also bought the unit because it was Alexa compatible, it's not (in the fullest sense of the word). I've been working in the IT industry for a very long time. I've written code for everything from DB3 to web pages. We always said computers would make things easier, they can. ECOBEE DOES NOT MAKE THINGS EASIER. 1) The touch screen... sexy but not effective. The NEST press and dial works much better. 2) SCHEDULE, WHAT SCHEDULE? You have to create a comfort setting leave that screen. FIND another screen APPLY the comfort setting to a time. OR SOMETHING STUPID LIKE THAT (I'm sorry for the caps it's just so exasperating)! Hey what about a 12 or 24 hour slider representing a day. ADD a flag to start a time/temp block, put in another flag to end the time/temp block. I'm sure ecobee employs brilliant, smart, and wonderful people to do their coding. BUT...JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN CREAT 15 SCREENS WITH SEXY CODING DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD. The original good coding rule was, "don't create 5 lines of code, that can be done in one". This applies to screens, thought and functions. You know what I wish, that all the smart systems had a hold button/function like the first "Non-smart" thermostats. I can walk into a room, tap a button 1,2,3 times to a desired temp....PRESS HOLD, and walk away. It will stay that temp until I change it. Better yet, I "programmed a simple week of times/temps. If I need to work/sleep/read/eat in that room for awhile; I simply tap 1,2,3 and it will stay that temp until the next programmed change. Sadly, with ecobee I need to go to the unit, find my phone, or computer to make a change. That would be great except you then have to figure out the different interface. How in the world does it make sense on (Apple) Watch to cancel and then make changes? Way back in the stone age for calculating financial problems ,we had to use HP12C calculators. It used what derisively called "reverse Polish logic" (I am truly sorry for using an ethnic slur, but, that's what it was called back then, even by Professors). Instead of using Ti functioning like 2+2=4; the HP12c went something like 2"enter"2"+, I may be wrong about that, but it was something odd (find a unit and try it, they were still made the last time I looked). The point is that, ecobee seems to use their own logic utilizing as many screens as is possible; it may work but it's not easy. The other thing I mentioned is the "Alexa" compatibility. It seems to interface decently. The problem arises with using it as a full Am_z/Alexa machine. It isn't recognized by the Alexa app as device that can accept bluetooth pairing. In some cases the Am_z/Alexa app doesn't "see" it all. (The Am_z/Alexa app/interface is sorely lacking as full and flowing cohesive interface as well.) I've waited about 8 months to work with the ecobee before writing this review. Perhaps if the ecobee interface is more snapchat, facebook, or other social media "like". I would work better with it. However, I try to limit the products that track my information and limit my exposure to the most popular forums. At this juncture with it's poor interface; I would not recommend nor would I buy another ecobee. If I thought I could resell my unit for half what I paid, I would. And, I'm sorry to say that my wife who currently works in IT would also like to tear it off the wall and throw it away.

The additional piece for the other side of our living room is a great feature to have because it tells you when it’s getting too hot or too cold.

Worth the cost thus far
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The install was pretty easy. We lucked out with having some extra accessory wires so we didn't need the power kit. The app to instal and initiate set up was great. They walk you they step by step what you need to do. In terms of functionality, we have been easily able to set up the thermostat with our Apple HomeKit set up. It works great with the HomeKit app. We have set the device up to turn to a lower temperature when we are out of the house. So far it works great. We haven’t had it long enough to see if it has made any dent in the electricity bill but I have high hopes for that. The touchscreen is clear and you can adjust brightness. I have nothing really negative to stay at this point about the product.

A Must Have Device for Any House
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been using EcoBee since the EcoBee3, now have the EcoBee5. The thermostat in your house is something that is so important, you likely use it everyday and it can all be automated! I have a somewhat unique setup at my farmhouse with oil heat, air conditioning, and a outdoor wood burner as well. The EcoBee supports many features including having multiple room sensors allowing more fine tuning and equalization of the temperature of your home. I love that I can tell EcoBee to automatically run my fan at certain intervals throughout the day and remotely access it worldwide. This is the first thing i purchased when I bought my newest home
