Ecobee 3 lite Easy Install
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am getting ready to move out of town, for two years to go to work. I ordered Ecobee 3 Lite so that I could control my thermostat while I was out of town. I’m a 55 year old female, on my own, with zero electrical skills. I was able to install this thermostat with no problem. I did have to google my old thermostat wiring diagram before I started in order to see which old wires were labeled as which letter. (This was actually labeled on the old thermostat, I found later. The letters were just covered by the wires). The only problem that I had was when I was trying to push the wires into the ecobee wiring frame. In order to insert the wires into the ecobee slots, one has to push the tabs all the way down, and push the wires in with a good bit of force. I found this part to be undocumented in the literature, and actually had to watch some YouTube videos to see someone do it. Ecobee should add this detail into their literature. Push the tabs DOWN to install wires. Other than that, install was simple. When I threw the power back on, at the fuse box, ecobee lit up (hallelujah) and walked me through the rest of set up. It even sensed a misplaced wire. It’s easy to pull ecobee off the wall (in just plugs straight in), so I pulled it off, moved the wire. It rebooted and took me right back to the beginning, and allowed me to set up correctly. My house was built in 2005, so my HVAC system is quite old, but ecobee is running it, just fine. I am very happy with the device!

Ecobee Cust. Serv.= TRASH!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee customer service is absolute trash! For approximately the last two weeks… And I have had my ecobee threeLite thermostat at least for two years… My thermostat has no additional sensors other than the one that is built into it. If you go on the ecobee website, they claim that their smart thermostats, when you have a period of the day where you are typically “away” you can have the thermostat roll backwards, and then turn itself back on in advance of you returning home. That part works fine. But for the last couple weeks on the rare occasion, when I have come home early, and I go in front of my thermostat there is a built-in sensor that if you get within 3 feet of the screen it it wakes the thermostat back up, which should automatically tell it that someone is now “Home”. That feature is not working any longer… Although it had worked on numerous occasions over the last two years. And before you asked the question, there is only my wife and myself… And my wife is quite frankly “afraid“ of touching the high-tech ecobee thermostat and possibly messing up any settings, and so by default, I’m the only one who makes adjustments. Even when I go to the extra step of pushing a couple of the touchscreen buttons to really let the system know, “ Hey… somebody actually is “home for now” and you should turn the heat on in this house”… It doesn’t turn it on!! It doesn’t recognize that I am home! I called 1- 877-932-6233 Customer service number… Because they have no other methods of chat or email or any other contact method… And I kid you not I waited on hold not having spoken to a single live person for an hour and a half and I still never got to speak to a real person!!! I just tried to call back again after waiting an hour to calm myself down, and the phone is not even going to the automated system now … it literally just rings, and rings, and rings until I gave up after sitting there stupidly for two minutes. I used to tell people all the time how great my ecobee thermostat was, and I don’t know what the bug is whether it was a recent update, which you don’t often know about because it’s always connected to Wi-Fi so if there is a new system patch or something that they push out that can be done in the middle of the night and you wouldn’t even know what happened. Short story long, I am no longer going to be recommending ecobee and I would suggest that you RUN … don’t walk … away from any Ecobee discounts that you might see on Amazon where it’s now only “$99” instead of $150 or $180 or whatever they normally going for. There’s absolutely a reason for their constant price reductions… And it is the worlds worst customer service… And apparently less than reliable longevity You can get yourself a nice Google Nest digital thermostat or another branded product that probably works equally well… And if it shouldn’t work at some point, you will at least have a chance to get help to figure out what in the world is now wrong with this thermostat that should last 20 years before it has any glitches and issues as my last one that I had installed back in the year 2000 (non-Ecobee).

BEWARE - depends on their server being up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great idea. Poor implementation. If their server is down, you have no remote access to your thermostats. Must go to physical unit to control. The reason to have a "smart" thermostat is to be able to control it without having to be at the physical location. Server has been down for hours! No access! Also, app makes you log in/out to access your different house accounts. The interface is not well thought out. The seemingly same information is in different places, so you have to hunt around to find/change it. Remote sensor is very pickly about how far it can be away from mail thermostat (30-40 feet with few obstructions between). So, rooms that are very far from thermostat cannot take advantage of remote. Too bad we did not buy one thermostat and one remote and test for a while before investing a LOT of money in putting these everywhere.

Ecobee holding cool Temps hostage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Eco be in the winner of 2019, a work very well with the sensor upstairs and downstairs regulating the temperature throughout the whole house. However in the summer of 2020 I found that the thermostat would keep turning the AC off. This made it very hot in the house, I found it bead due to the Eco B plus setting I tried to turn this off it kept turning itself back on. This was a common complaint on many review sites of the Ecobe. I was finally able to turn off but it would only be temporary I have to contact my energy company to have it turned off. While the product is nice the product forces you into the company's views on how energy should be used.

The golden standard I hold future thermostats too!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased two of these while renovating a two-story 20-year-old home and absolutely loved the ease of use. App was great and truly helped to understand the HVAC energy use with report cards and comparisons to averages in the area.

Functionality Can Be Misleading
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1 Minimum off-time - Don't be fooled...If you set this to 15 minutes minimum off time and your set point is reached first, your AC will run. So if you buy this to overcome short cycling on down time due to poor home insulation etc... it probably won't work in our south Texas heat like you want it to or like the wording or advertisement says. 2 Use to dehumidify - doesn't do much as that's a big part of your air conditioners job anyhow. Maybe in a low temp high humidity environment. The jury is still out on my decision to keep this thermostat or return it. I could have gotten a much cheaper product to address short cycle issues on the cooling side that would not have created near the headaches and research I've endured just to use this product which does had remote room smart sensors as well. They seem to do as they are billed as. Appears to be fairly well made. Mounting backplate and contact lugs are cheaply made so be careful installing. It's easy to install but you better know how to set this thing up correctly. The scheduling is atrocious. Have not even attempted to use it as of yet but not near as straight forward as most other thermostats. Originally purchased to overcome short cycle on the cooling side as I have an oversized unit. It does fit that bill at the present time. Most online data reports are unavailable until 15 days after a full calendar month after online registration. Install April 2, data will be available June 15. Downloaded data that is available is all in seconds so if you want to make heads or tails of it you'll be in Excel quite a bit. There is also a known firmware issue where temperatures can appear in decimal format but the thermostat reads in whole numbers. The fix is supposedly pending but mot a big issue. I could go on but most of this is either nuisance issues or lack of a standardized and/or well written user manual so you will be using SUPPORT quite a bit. Support is hit and miss depending on the person that fields the call. I give this an Average product rating because there are cheaper alternatives that in retrospect will do most of what this thing does. I can't recommend not buying because it does work. Just not how it's advertised. Ease of use only gets 4 stars now because I've spoke to Support enough to di what I personally want to. Easy to install but not easy to understand or use without help

Support is horrible and dishonest
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beware of ecobee! I purchased the eagle be light about 2 1/2 months ago and it stopped working completely. I had two technicians confirm that it is the thermostat. I’ve Called ecobee customer support three times now. The first time I waited over 30 minutes and the person that got on the line blatantly pretended like he couldn’t hear me and hung up. The second time I waited the same amount of time and the Representative said he couldn’t hear me and would call right back and never did. The third time I waited a similar amount of time and I left my number for an automated call back and never received one. I’m at a total loss of what to do. The product worked well for 2 1/2 months but Support is dishonest and impossible to contact. Oh, And I’m on the phone all day with my earpiece and no one else ever says they can’t hear me

Don't Recommend Ecobee
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't stand the ecobee thermostat. Whenever I want to adjust it's temperature it is unavailable to make the adjustment. When I want to turn it off NOW, I can't. When I'm sleepy and want to go to bed I frequently have to WAIT until it becomes available to make an adjustment. Sometimes I go to my device and turn the system OFF to make it quick and event that takes time. then the programmers don't understand the KI SS rule - "keep it simple stupid". They have this clever way of programming it when to do on and off. Now I was a straight A student, BS in computer Science and Master degree. It's way too complicated for the average person to program. I miss my old mechanical thermostat where I can immediately and easily change temperature and program it. Now I need to find a replacement. Any recommendations?

Great product horrible longevity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed my first set of 3 Ecobee Lite’s 12 months ago and have been through 7 since. They seem to work for about 90 days then out of nowhere only turn heat ON but stop adjusting. I worked with Ecobee tech support, which was awesome, but all lead to replacing from store under warranty. BUT now due to Summer coming I have not called for heat for the last 6 months and the first time it turned on, same issue, wouldn’t turn heat down or off. Store said sorry its past the 90 day warrant and Ecobee requires a technician To come and determine its defective before they will honor their 3 year warranty. So paying $300 (Non emergency call in cost) to get back $170 is ridiculous. Overall great produce when it works but not worth the aggravation every few months to replace and diagnose. Sorry but I would steer clear and not waste the money.

Unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in south Florida so Air Conditioning is a big deal. Constantly disconnecting from the wall (which isn’t a big deal, until recently) it started becoming a nuisance when I woke up 6 out 7 days last week sweating and probably lost over an hour everyday so if you thinks that’s better than a 20 dollar one that never disconnects than go for it. it’s a good product don’t get me wrong, it’s just the fact that it’s unreliable makes the UX irrelevant, a few of my buddy’s have the same problem with it too so it’s not just me.

AC Unit - 3 Wire Limitations with Ecobee Units
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Myself and my contract spent many hours over two days on the phone with Ecobee first and second level support. They never resolved the problem, and we replaced the Ecobee thermostat that had been running Heat and AC for 5 years with a battery operated $30 unit, given Ecobee support could not address our issue. We had been using the common wire from the heat, and something they did in their software programming now requires the common come from the AC. When the AC unit only has 3 wires, and running a new wire is not possible, you need to be able to use the common from the Heat, as this had been the practice in the past. Their competitors do not have this limitation.
