    Ecobee is bad

    Ecobee thermostat came with a new air conditioning system. It is constantly a few degrees hotter that programmed. Was replaced once but same problem. It is a terrible thermostat.

    Not useful as a smart home device

    I finally got fed up with this device and disconnected it today. It works OK as a standalone manually operated thermostat. As soon as you try using it as a remotely controlled device the latencies defeat the purpose of it being "smart": 1. Android app is exceptionally sluggish, on a flagship Samsung device connected to the same WiFi network it takes at least 10 seconds to change your thermostat setting, sometimes it takes longer or breaks completely 2. If you wish to control it from a PC, you have to log in to the website which is also slow and will take you at least 15 seconds 3. IT DOES NOT have a local network integration with open sources smart home products like openHAB or Home Assistant rely on a slow cloud-based API 4. Every 2 months it looses WiFi connection, instead of retrying to reconnect you have to physically disconnect the device to fix the problem 5. It doesn't allow to control it remotely when the Internet is down It works better as a health device as you will find yourself getting up and walking to it to change the setting rather than dealing with sluggish remote interfaces.

    Poor tech support and poor product - short lived

    Please don't buy ecobee thermostat. I had bought it from Best Buy and they refused to send technician. I had contract with my oil company to help install it. Good enough thermostat was no good, not working. I had hard time with support at ecobee dept and they finally sent me replacement (after several months). I had technician to re-install it. Since November 2020 last week it had all of sudden turned off. I had called technician to find out what was wrong. Thermostat is defective, and no good. When you install it you can feel hot on the thermostat. Now I had hard time again with support at ecobee. Forget it, I lost over 300 dollars to spend and plus technician over $400 to work. Please don't recommend to purchase the ecobee thermostat. It is poor product plus poor tech support. Frustrating over a year!!!! CM

    Garbage. Useless warranty & customer service

    Complete garbage. Item was professionally installed and suddenly failed after 1 week. No power to it at all. I called ecobee and they said it’s under warranty but that they would not replace the item until use a voltage meter to test all the wires in my system with their tech support team. That means I have to go buy a voltage meter, disconnect my temporary working digital thermostat and must assume the role of an ac repairman in order to get them to honor their warranty. This is a complete joke. Either they should just replace my failed ecobee or send a technician like every other half reputable appliance company does. This was a complete waste of money. I threw away all of my sensors and the garbage thermostat and I purchased a Nest, which is what I should’ve done from the beginning!

    App terrible, no tech support

    I had a Nest thermostat in my old house and loved it. So I went to buy another one, and saw that these were cheaper. You get what you pay for. The device seems to work, just like my old brick Honeywell. But getting it set up on the app is a nightmare. Thermostat says it’s installed and registered, but app still wants to install a device. Their tech support is worthless. Ten minutes on hold to talk to Mario. 25 minutes fooling around with him – then he said he has to transfer me to “Level 2 Support Specialist”. On hold for 45 minutes, and then they hung up on me. Spend the money and buy Nest – you know the app will work, and that tech support will be there.

    Poor tech support

    I bought 3 ecobee smarvoice control thermostat from Best Buy. I followed the instructions and connected the wires. failed to make it work. I called an electrician and not success. called the tech support. After 1 hour able to connect. He took my phone numer to call back. After hearing the problem I was having he told me that he cannot hear me. I sent pictures of old and new connections. No reply from the rech support for an hour. I called and left message and emailed tech support multiple times. Very poor tech services and hence the product . If you need tech support forget it- it is garbage. I am sending all back

    This product is terrible. I spent over 3 hours with their tech support, and an electrician trying to get it set up. In the end, what tech support suggested we do disabled my entire HVAC system and left us without a functioning AC system with young children in over 80 degree heat. I had to have an emergency HVAC service come out and re-install the old thermostat, and undo all the wiring changes suggested by their tech support. 10/10 would not recommend.

    I’d give a zero if that were an option Support service is terrible. This is not the first time I’ve called but always the same result, on hold for more than an hour. They say high call volume. How high does it need to be until you hire enough support people? The hold music is way TO LOUD. And it’s not even real music, just a 30 second loop of something sounding like video game sound. Very annoying. The fan on (not Auto) not working it shuts itself off.

    Sad performance, due your research first.

    It was great when it was new. They keep reprogramming it without your permission or even notification. The programming has gotten away from them and they have many bugs they cannot figure out. Routine and random problems plague this thing and there is ZERO communication about updates and what features have changed. It is always, 100% a guessing game, it is in one word, laughable.

    I owned an Ecobee 3 for several years until it stopped working correctly. Spent quite a bit just to hear about a 1-year warranty. Bought a replacement Ecobee 5 which is slow and buggy. Support folks don’t help! Don’t waste your money with Ecobee!!!!
