This one works great, supports Apple HomeKit, and I trust it better than Ring and others for privacy, etc. (for whatever reason). We already had ecobee thermostats, so the integration is great and install wasn't that complicated.

    Good doorbell for Homekit

I did the installation using the Ecobee app, which was straightforward. The door chime adapter was slightly oversized for my chime box, which required for me to do some improvisation for a proper fit. Both the Homekit and the Ecobee premium thermostat were able to connect to the doorbell without any issues. In my view, the angle of vision is improved if the doorbell is installed on the side of the wall where the door is located. The angled bracket does not do much if the doorbell is installed on either side of the door, especially if the wiring is too close to the door, as a quarter of the field of view will be occupied by the door. A more pronounced angled bracket would be more beneficial. The camera’s field of view is wide enough to capture the entire person and any packages left on the ground. However, it does not support Homekit video recordings, as many have already pointed out, but it will take snapshots when motion is detected or when the doorbell is pressed. A monthly subscription is necessary for video recording and so-called rich notifications. In my experience, the live feed loads instantly with the Apple Homekit app, iOs device and Apple TV, whereas it takes longer through the Ecobee app or the thermostat. Therefore, the doorbell works better with the Apple devices. The green halo light will grow and blink if it detects a person approaching. I wish the facade could be glass considering the price of this doorbell which will make it easier to clean. It looks premium with all the glossy black cover but it can pick up scratches easily. 1080p camera is sharp enough and the night vision works well too. I wish the doorbell comes with a 2k resolution like some competitors do.

It’s nice because I have ecobee thermostats. Two of them, latest model. So when you ring the doorbell all the HomePods in the house ring and the ecobee displays a live feed of who is at the door. Homekit is huge for me, I have homepods and apple tv’s. You get a live feed on the apple tv when doorbell rings in addition to the thermostats. This also gives a nice green led bar around the actual ecobee doorbell button. Otherwise its off. Would be nice to see it stay lit. No option for video quality. Always streams at the same quality and more wide lens, so not as sharp of quality. Would prefer a choice on video quality, especially if it could be higher resolution. Has been a bit buggy but it is very new. I imagine the little glitches will get ironed out soon, such as the zooming beta feature. Would be nice to see videos within homekit secure video. No luck. Ecobee offers a premium video service. Would have preferred using Apple’s ecosystem exclusively but now I have bounce between both apps. You can only see clips in the ecobee app. Otherwise live feed does come up in apple’s home app. Was on the fence on keeping it but some native homekit compatibility is better than none, what i had before with Nest (Google) and I hope ecobee will play nicer with Apple and add more features.

This smartdoor bell is a great add to any household. I have used competitors doorbells in the past and have had a hard time installing and even setting up the app and singing up for their cloud storage plans. This doorbell has not given me any of these issues since day 1. The companion app links great with my existing thermostat (same brand) and the install was simple. The app does have a buy-up option that I am yet to utilize but I do intent to explore at least the free trial in the near future. A noteworthy points around this doorbell is the camera clarity and angle of view. My old camera seemed to provide a very narrow camera view, while this camera give more of a fish-eye view. This was a major deal breaker for me as my front door has a little bit of a jog/corner to it and my old camera did not get the best view compared to this one. Installing was easy, as the back of the unit has a nice mounting to it allowing me easily replace my old doorbell with this new one. All in all, we all know there are plenty of video doorbells out there and selecting one that fits you best is tough. I can attest that this doorbell give a great picture, has a friendly app and is easy to set up making this a highly recommended option to add to my household smart devices.

A great wired video doorbell option

The Ecobee smart video doorbell is a great video doorbell option for those looking to enhance their home's doorbells. The packaging was very thoughtfully assembled and brings everything you need to get your doorbell setup. This doorbell taps into your existing home doorbell chime, so there is no need to plug in a wireless chime. At first the chime did not function with the suggested instructions but after changing some wires around as shown in the instructions then the video doorbell came to life. The chime itself is well built and feels premium, in addition to that the video quality is great and you get a full head to foot view without a nasty fisheye effect. There are some neat tricks that this doorbell can do such as Ecobee thermostat integration which lets you view a video feed of the doorbell from the safety of your thermostat similar to a virtual door peep hole. The app software leave is very user friendly almost to a fault where some advanced features are not available in order to appeal to the mainstream. All in all the Ecobee Smart Video Doorbell is a great option for someone looking to use their existing doorbell wiring to upgrade their home.

Kind of average / Ring is the better product

Replaced my older model Ring with Ecobee because they seem to be a better company to support during these times. The install was pretty much similar to Ring. The wires on the device are very thin, and thin copper breaks easily. I ended up having to tear away the sheathing to reveal more wire because I accidently broke one of the wires by barely twisting it around the wire from my home to install it. They do give you a connector that makes it a bit easier, so I should have maybe just gone that route. For some reason, my doorbell in the home just chimes with a single "ding" instead of 2 now. Not sure if that is something faulty with the device or my wiring. Once installed you are put through the normal setup of the app and assigning your wifi. This process was easier (if my memory serves) than the Ring app. I also have my doorbell linked with my Ecobee thermostat. This is more for the thermostat functionality, but unless someone rings the actual doorbell, it won't just display detection on the thermostat, which would have been nice. You get a free trial of 30 days of the subscription based service, which gives you the bells and whistles of cloud storage for your activity, and being able to see video of detection activity, which brings me to a big complaint. I thought I saw somewhere that Ecobee boasts that they don't force you into a subscription, but without the paid subscription you lose any ability to see video history. All you get is a still image of a detection activity, which is somewhat useless. This is a huge miss, and prevents me from fully recommending this product to anyone, unless they explicitly state that they will not use Ring products. Otherwise, the unit does get very hot to the touch and kept telling me it had low voltage when I first got it put in, and then that just stopped happening for some reason. Also, the app almost broke my wife's phone (Android) where it froze everything up until she was finally able to get it to do a hard reboot. She has since uninstalled and reinstalled the app and hasn't had an issue like that since. This isn't exactly a Ring killer, but if you want to get away from or prevent having to enter the Ring ecosystem, this is an ok enough option.

Product working great - install was easy except for the super short screws induced in the box meant to connect the harness to the wedge. Had to use other screws not included.

Fantastic. Great video, simple HomeKit setup, nice integration through native Ecobee app. I LOVE that my HomePods act as chime’s for the doorbell and that it displays doorbell video on demand or on each ring on my Ecobee Premium thermostat so anyone can just walk up to it and talk.

I have had this company’s thermostat for years and it has been reliable and easy to use. When they came out with a camera. I decided to try it. I am happy with the purchase and privacy. The camera performs well in areas where bright backlighting exits like covered door ways. It works very well at night as well. The company gives you a 60 day cloud storage account and holds 30 days of video. Has 2way communication features and live view. The only things I find quirky with the product is a subscription service which I don’t lie but it’s reasonable and there seems to be a delay from the time the device triggers and your phone or tablet is notified. I only have tried one other camera years ago which was ring before Amazon bought them and I did not have half of the good experience that I have had with the ecobee door camera.

Good image quality, solid build, and east install. App works okay- the notifications and loading the camera takes a bit. However, if using the Apple Home app, the camera loads instantly. No HKSV, but again, does work with Apple Home. I use it with my Ecobee Premium Thermostat and two Ecobee security cameras. The doorbell chime sounds on those devices and the live feed shows up on the thermostat. Pretty cool, would recommend this smart doorbell camera.

This camera is exactly what I’ve wanted from a doorbell camera. Can zoom in/out, picks up voices from across the street and the picture quality is outstanding. Way much better than the guy with the black hood mask product. The fact that it integrates with Apple Home Kit made it an even better investment. If you have an Ecobee system, this is well worth your time to upgrade from whatever other brand you have. Installation took about 40 minutes, and was painless. The app basically walks you through every little step. Only complaint I have is the doorbell adapter does not tuck in too well to the doorbell housing and cover. However that does not take away from how great this product is.

Installed this after having Ring and the Logic…out of the box this thing is far superior. Ecobee support and packaging surprised and delighted. HomeKit compatibility is what won me over. My only complaint is I would have bought the ecobee premium if I’d have known that this is the only way to see your camera on your thermostat. Sad that it won’t do this with then ecobee advanced :(. Crystal clear video, works great, easy install. Try it out, what have you got to loose!?!?

Purchased this device to connect with my ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium and they work wonders. If someone rings the doorbell and I am sitting in the living room, I can look at the thermostat and see a clear view of the person standing at my door. The installation process of the doorbell camera was seamless. Highly recommend this product as you high tech doorbell camera.

Was really excited to give this one a try. LOVED the Ecobee Thermostat. I was a bit disappointed when I read that this Doorbell wasn't yet supported by Google Home. Nevertheless, I wanted to give it a shot. Installation is made pretty easy by providing excellent in-app visuals and detailed instructions that make it very easy to understand what steps to take. I went through the process of disconnecting my old video doorbell and putting this one in its place. I had no real issues with getting it disconnected, and installing the new doorbell chime connector and doorbell itself. I did have a little issue fitting the chime housing over the bulky chime connector, but it wasn't a huge issue. However, once I had it connected and working I quickly discovered the field of view wasn't accurate. So I was going to need to install the wedge plate that angles the fov. For the few seconds I had it up and operating with ease, I noted the video quality was great. But it wasn't long lived. As I was installing the bell back onto the wall using the wedge plate, I dropped the doorbell from about a 3 foot fall. It landed on it's face, and ended up completely shattered. This is when I discovered the face was entirely glass and it wasn't at all durable. So what was meant to look designer and be aesthetically pleasing, it left it compromised in the durability department. I do realize dropping it was ultimately my problem and it doesn't necessarily impact it's overall technical prowess. But it's a real issue that it was so easily broken. Frustrating....

…Even without the subscription, it does a great job. As one of the few HomeKit options out there right now, I feel confident that I made a decent choice. Make sure your transformer and chime are at least 16v BEFORE installation. Also make sure that your chime cover is roomy enough to accomodate the required chime adapter… The adapter is the only con I could come up with.

I needed a HomeKit enabled video doorbell and after research the Ecobee stood out. I like its integration with the Ecobee thermostat to make it a small video screen to interact with it. It has good response and great integration with HomeKit. I just wish it was a little smaller than it is but besides that it’s great. I like it much better in its operation than the Google Home.
