I am quite pleased with how easy it is to use the ECOVACS Robtics DEEBOT N79SE. The included remote control is easy to understand, and the app works as you'd expect. The little DEEBOT itself is a friendly little guy who enjoys cleaning floors. Special shout-out to whoever wrote the intro piece that was included with mine warning that robot vacuums have "a special affinity" for cables. I really appreciated the humor and style. The little DEEBOT does a nice job navigating around obstacles and covering a wide range of territory. It does a good job of picking up dirt, small objects (crumbs, pieces of wood chips), and pet fur. It also moves seamlessly from rug to hardwood. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but this little guy is a winner.

What a great little picker upper Deebot Robot Vacuum. It was easy to set up and charged. The remote is very handy in controlling where and what type of cleaning you want such as spot cleaning and edge with is a plus. You can even schedule a cleaning which is pretty cool. My first cleaning was in my bedroom and the Robot did a good job under bed where dust accumulates in hard to reach places. The dust bin fills up quickly and is takes only seconds to empty and attach back on Robot Vacuum. Only Con is when Robot Vacuum has to maneuver around furniture it tends to stall before changing directions which causes it to sometimes repeat. Definitely a device you can rely on in a pinch to maintain daily efficient cleaning with self charging convenience. Welcome home Robot Vacuum.

The ECOVACS Robotics - DEEBOT N79SE App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum - Espresso is an excellent robotic vacuum to have for cleaning your homes’ floors and carpets. I connected it with my Wi-Fi and became able to signal commands to the vacuum with the remote control or the ECOVACS app I installed on my phone. I can run the ECOVACS Robotics - DEEBOT N79SE App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum - Espresso on Auto pilot based on the needed cleaning pattern of the room being spot, edge or full room cleaning. The strength of the battery is also shown through the app. I can also program the ECOVACS Robotics - DEEBOT N79SE App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum - Espresso to begin cleaning at a specific time every day. It works right out of the box, with snapping on the brushes and plugging in the charging dock. The ECOVACS Robotics - DEEBOT N79SE App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum - Espresso picks up dust, hair, dirt, small twigs and just about any item a large manual vacuum can pick up. It is a great addition to my homes’ cleaning arsenal.

Nice but fragile and not supported by Ecovacs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Quiet. Fair cleaning on hard floors. Acceptable on short carpet. Gets lost easily. Random motion means it never fully cleans a space, but acceptable for under $200. Failed at 367 days. One of the side brushes became very noisy after getting tangled in a rug fringe. As it was out of warranty, I partially disassembled the unit to find one of the reduction gears driving the side brush has lost a couple of teeth. The motor speed is not monitored, so if the brush is working too hard, the robot does not know it. The design of this gear train puts a lot of torque on these teeth and this plastic (very low-cost) was not appropriate for this use. Ecovacs does not service the units, instead "recommending" a 3rd party repair service. Ecovacs does not offer service parts. The 3rd party does not offer service parts, but will repair the motor for $50-60 plus shipping of the whole vacuum. Does not seem like a deal for a 3-cent part. Ordering a new motor from Ebay. My advice is to avoid Ecovacs or expect to have to buy a new one soon after the warranty expires. Overall I was happy with the vacuum until the failure, but we never let it run while we were not home. If you keep to hard floors, pick up everything before using and gate it to keep it where you can see it, I think it might last another year.

Well, the problem with robot vacs is, if you have a multilevel home and you already have been bit but the robovac bug, it’s hard not to get another. At least until someone decides to make a robovac drone that can fly itself up/down a flight of steps. Anyway, as mentioned, we do already own a robovac from another company. We like it so much that we wanted another for another floor. We didn’t want the expense though of that first vac. We decided to give this a try and enjoy it. We have not had any issues with cleaning, though nothing beats a regular vacuum when it comes to a good cleaning of area rugs. Aside from a few area rugs though, the floors where this is being used are hardwood so for us, it’s great. We do have cats so I prefer to do a visual sweep for fur ball landmines and toys before letting it run. I find it hard to believe letting these machines pinball around is efficient. The floors are always clean, but something tells me they could be cleaned quicker. Taking the edge clean mode to another level and step in the width of the bot on each lap sounds like practical programming to me. If you don’t want this thing to clean a room, then you have to close the door. That’s a bummer. Some of the magnetic border tape would be great. In our case, the foyer area is low traffic and full of obstacles anyways so we prefer it not run in that area. There’s no door there so we live with the cleaning. Thanks to the run time though, it still has juice to clean the other rooms. Run time was an issue we had with the first vac when it was on this floor trying to clean and would get into the foyer. I like the color. It’s different from the black and silvers you see in the store and our other vac is all black. It’s a little bit smaller in diameter than that one too but obviously doesn’t seem to impact cleaning ability. It’s easy to empty the dust bin. It’s always interesting to see what it collects, especially when it makes the under furniture runs. The aftermarket replacement parts are cheaper comparatively, so that’s a bonus. I don’t really fool with the app or remote. This thing is supposed to clean on it’s own. I’ll let it do its job instead of wasting time trying to control it. Again, since I usually do a visual sweep, I typically start it at the machine. Overall, we’re happy with it, but again, with all the floors in our home being hardwood or tile, it’s hard for it not to excel. If your floors are similar and you’re not wanting to break the bank, I think this is a good choice.

So in an approx 1000 square foot home with half hardwood and half carpeting the unit takes 45 minutes to do a full edge cleaning. When set to automatic it will run for almost an hour on hardwoods maybe a little longer. On mainly carpet it will run 30 minutes to 45 minutes. The run time you get even on standard power and not Max is going to vary as to any obstacles, the depth of the carpet, and how many smooth surfaces you have. It only cleans about one room on one charge. If you move it to the other half of the house it has problems finding its way back to the dock even with a clear line of sight. This unit does not have room mapping and does not pick up where it left off once it returns to the dock and then goes back out on another automatic cleaning cycle as scheduled. The app is easy enough to use and the remote control is helpful. It does a good job of cleaning however it really cannot climb over any obstacle or room divider between rooms that is taller than about half an inch. It all depends at which angle the bumper hits the divider. The unit seems to slow down as it approaches what it believes is an obstacle so that it doesn't ram into it. Otherwise I'm pretty sure at that speed, with the mud gripping wheels on the thing, that it could jump the divider. I had no issues with it getting stuck under any counters or the fridge or the couch. Of course you need to keep the floor free of any blankets or cords or any other obstacles. I will say that with edge cleaning if you put a rug in between two doorways or over a slightly elevated divider that the unit can make its way up to those areas to clean. However on automatic mode when it just randomly cleans there's no guarantee it will hit a ramp or a rug at the right angle to clean in those elevated areas. And again by elevated I mean an inch higher than the rest of the floor. This thing does not climb stairs. If you only want to clean one room at a time then you need to shut the door. If you only need to do a hallway then you need to shut the doors to bathrooms and bedrooms. For the price paid on sale I think it's a pretty good bargain however it will need a little babysitting from time to time and also remember if you have cameras and security systems set up for motion and sound this unit will set them off. Would I buy this one again? Probably but if I ever found a unit that didn't cost $500 that had room mapping, I would definitely pay more for that feature.

I bought a Deebot years ago. This summer, I decided to replace it with a Roomba. That was a huge mistake. After a few months, I went back to Deebot. It is less tall so that it goes under more of my furniture and does an awesome job cleaning with two brushes. Also, it is much quieter. I prefer this model because it has a remote control. I absolutely have zero interest in putting a vacuum app on my phone. :-) Deebot is the way to go!

Good little vacuum gummed up by long dog hair

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We live in a vacuum's nightmare. I have a newfoundland (about 125lbs, long black hair) and yellow lab (short hair) with low-to-medium pile carpets. My newf is notorious for bringing in "treasures" from the yard in his fur, including beech nut shells, leaves, small twigs, etc. I could probably vacuum twice a day and still need to spot clean. Add to that a crawling baby, and I needed backup. After thorough searching, we brought home the Ecovacs Deebot N79SE (I am still not sure what differentiates this from the N79S, and assume that the "SE" is just specifically sold at BB). Satisfied pet owners sung the praises of this reasonably priced bot on other websites. I began envisioning of a life where I could vacuum every other, or, dare I dream, every 3 days? Putting the bot together was easy: pop on the little side brushes and it's ready to go. I really liked that there were actual brushes on the roll as well as silicone fins, plus the two side brooms. I sat him on the charger and waited the recommended 4 hours before sending him on his maiden voyage across our (tidied up) floor. During this time I set up the app on my Samsung phone; it took two tries to sync, but I did not have any issues with the app itself. Sometimes I had to go back a few screens in order for it to update the status of the device, which I considered only a minor annoyance. Once it was all charged up I set the mode to Auto and he immediately darted under our bed, which is home to several randomly placed storage boxes, and I was pleasantly surprised to see him emerge unscathed from the other side. It definitely moved in a random pattern around the room, deliberately slowing before nearing objects and then usually turning before (gently) bumping into anything. It seemed to like to be at least 6" away from walls and objects - I wonder if this is just the mode I had selected (versus "edge clean" which I unfortunately did not get a chance to try). Satisfied that the robot and my stuff were no immediate danger to each other, I left him alone to do his work. In its regular mode it's pretty quiet, sort of like a household fan on "low," when put into "max" mode it sounded more like a hair dryer. My husband and I both thought it was pretty quiet, and it was definitely not as loud as our Dyson DC13 and Shark Rocket vacuums. About an hour later I checked the app and noticed that the battery was low and decided to peek in on him - he was having trouble docking (he had knocked the base slightly askew on the floor). No biggie. Before placing him back on the charger I decided to check the bin and brushroll. And this is where things got hairy. Literally. The brushroll looked like a giant black caterpillar. The brushes and fins were completely obstructed by long black dog fur, while the bin itself was literally overflowing with my lab's shorter hair and other debris. There were so many emotions: excitement at how well it was cleaning, with a healthy dose of horror at what had been lurking in my carpet, along with some serious concern that I had completely overwhelmed this device. The brushroll is behind an easily removable (but still secure) plastic door and it pops right out to be cleaned. Ecovacs includes a tool with a small razor (looking much like a seam ripper), designed for cleaning, and it did a good job of helping me free the brushroll, but the hair was everywhere. It was even beyond the edges of the roll (think like the ends of a spool of thread) and was winding around the parts that secure it to the robot itself. I imagine that isn't good long term, but I thought that maybe it would get better if the floors were cleaner? The dustbin is definitely on the smaller side - 300mL as advertised. it includes a small filter that's easily removable and cleaned with a light tap/use of the included brush. The whole compartment comes out and opens easily over your trash can. If you're a hardcore allergy sufferer, you may want to find someone else for this task. All in all, it had cleaned about 1/3 of the appx 400sq ft room. I let it charge overnight and decided to give it another go in the morning. Unfortunately the result was much the same. The bot returned home because the bin was totally full - and the brushroll completely and totally covered in hair. It followed much the same pattern as before, which meant that after two passes it still had managed only about half of a 400sq ft room. I knew going in that we would likely have to clean out the vacuum every day we used it. What I was not prepared for was having to completely clean out the bin and brushroll multiple times in order to clean a single room over the course of several chargings/days. I returned it, disappointed, less than 24 hours after I bought it. Bottom line: This vacuum is probably okay if you have small(er) short-haired dogs, though be ready to empty the bin frequently when they blow their coats. If you have long haired floofers, you probably need to do what we're doing and look for a more powerful vac with a bigger bin. Finding the perfect robot vac is hard, but Best Buy's return process was easy peasy!

      Hello,

Thank you for your comment. We value customer feedback like this because it helps us improve the quality of our product and services. The DEEBOT N79SE thoroughly cleans pet hair thanks to a durable three-point cleaning system, including a deep reach main brush, and powerful vacuum suction. Please note that hair can get intertwined on the brushes, which might increase the frequency with which you have to clean it. While we are sorry to hear that the unit's dustbin did not live up to your expectations, we are happy to hear that the unit was able to collect as much hair as you mentioned.

Regarding the cleaning pattern, as you mentioned, this vacuum does not follow a predetermined cleaning path. Its movement is determined by the obstacles it encounters, which cause it to readjust and follow a new path. Combined with a 120-minute battery, this allows the robot to cover the most of a room’s surface, especially high traffic areas. As the robot continues to run, it should eventually move on to a new area. Another way to combat this is to start the robot from a new area or run multiple cleaning cycles.

While we are sorry to hear that your experience with your Deebot did not live up to your expectations, we would like to thank you for giving our product a chance, and if you ever decide to buy from Ecovacs again, we can always be reached to answer any questions you may have at [email protected].

    Great time saver

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have always been interested in getting a robotic vacuum, but the combination of price points, negative reviews for many models, and lack of actual necessity have stopped me from purchasing one. With a recent residency change, the prospect of getting a robotic vacuum slowly changed from "want" to "time saver." I would spend an hour every Sunday vacuuming the house from top to bottom, only to have leaves, dirt, kitty litter, guinea pig bedding, food crumbs, and a wild abundance of various hair scattered through my home by Monday. Because robotic vacuums have become so prevalent, I figured there must be a decent model at a good price point. I was very excited when I saw this Deebot model. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, the price was good, and I was ready to keep the daily debris at bay. We have now had the Deebot for 3 weeks. The pros vastly outweigh the cons, and the cons seem applicable to every robotic vacuum. I would purchase Deebot again without hesitation. Pros: *Can schedule to clean. We have Deebot set to clean every night while we are sleeping *Is relatively quiet. Not quiet as a mouse, but it isn't too loud to run in the background. We have ours set to run at night through our downstairs. It has never woken us up. *Can easily switch between floors. We have a two level townhouse that is approximately 700 square feet downstairs and 600 square feet upstairs. About twice a week I set Deebot upstairs and let it do its thing. It does a pretty good job of covering the area upstairs while still remembering how to navigate downstairs. *Multiple settings. Our downstairs is hardwood and our upstairs is carpet. When I put Deebot upstairs I set it to "max" clean through the phone app. The max clean does a great job of getting the dust and cat hair that settles into the carpet. *My vacuuming time has been drastically cut. Deebot can't fully replace a vacuum, but I have not had to break out the heavy duty vacuum since we have had Deebot. I have used our handheld Shark Pet Hair vacuum on our living room rug once in the past 3 weeks. *The bin is incredibly easy to empty. *The app tells you when you need to replace the filter and brushes. Further, it comes with a maintenance tool so that you can remove debris from the brushes. Cons/neutrals *Battery life is decent. On the max setting it dies in about 1.5-2 hours. *Although our residence is pretty much an open floor plan, it seems to focus on some areas more than others. In our downstairs, it primarily focuses on the living room. I believe this is because our living room has the bulk of our items, so Deebot just has a harder time navigating. *In line with the previous point, sometimes Deebot repeatedly cleans a specific area for such an amount of time that it dies before making it to its charging station. On some days it does not make it into our dining room or kitchen. Usually, if we remember to pick up our wires as best as possible (phone, computers, etc), Deebot will make it everywhere and make it back to the charging station. I just check for it every morning and make sure to move it to the charging base if it's not there. *You need a lot of room for the charging base. The booklet suggests 3 feet per side and 6 feet directly in front of the base. The space in front of the base seems to be most important. I initially had the base in the dining room, but Deebot could not make it through our dining chairs to the base. Luckily, we have a large, raised TV stand that the charging base neatly fits under. *The "edge" feature seems to mistake our dark living room rug as an edge. I have seen Deebot roll over a laptop, but it will often come up to the dark blue edge of our living room rug and then turn around. I believe that Deebot reads this as an edge that it might fall over. Overall, Deebot has made my life a lot easier. I no longer spend a lot of time vacuuming, and Deebot takes care of most of the daily dirt and debris.

I live in a small house (about 1,000 sq feet), so I was never convinced I needed or wanted a robot vacuum. Then, BestBuy had this unit on sale for $159 during Mother's Day week, 2019. I had a $50 BB gift card, so the cost was only $109 (plus taxes). I did watch several YouTube videos, and although more expensive ones are 'better' (such as floor planning), I decided if I didn't like this, I could easily give it away. I am KEEPING it! I ran it every day, for 4 days (now writing). Then, I used my powerful Dirt Devil Jaguar Pet vacuum, which usually has the large canister emptied 2x at one cleaning. WOW! The large canister was less than 1/2 full of lint. It mostly picked up sand (Middle Ga has sandy soil). MORE: The app works great, notifying of low battery and if the unit is stuck (I replaced my vents to fix that). The spot cleaning is a great plus. And, the edge cleaning makes sure you get all the corners. I don't particularly like the zigzag pattern, but it does seem to go over every area. FINALLY, for $109, how could I say no. I am so glad I bought it. PS NOTICE: I saw some videos that show the box comes with an extra set of brushes and filters...NOT. The company said that was only up to 2017. From 2018, onward, there are NO extra parts. PLUS, if you need replacements, instead of the company website, search the web for at least 1/2 the costs.

Everyone has different idea of what is the best robot vacuum I have the I Robot and for the money and features I like this one better it's quiet and WiFi controls on your phone plus doesn't bang into objects as much as the I Robot the I robot doesn't have no protection when banging into things so the front was scuffed up I found out that you have to request these bumper guards from the company and you have to install your self this Ecovacs vacuum already comes with rubber guards.
