I was excited to try this 6 ounce Ember cup because I’m actually not a fan of the larger mugs. I never drink that much hot coffee or tea so it just felt like overkill to me. The smaller option is perfect for those who want a strong cup of sipping coffee/espresso or tea. I also love the handleless design as it gives it a more contemporary and sleek look and feel. I tend to be more of an iced coffee drinker, so when I do want something hot it’s usually a good cup of espresso or maybe a strong cup of tea. Either way I like to sip it slowly and savor it which means that even in a small cup by the end it’s usually not nearly as warm as I want it to be. The Ember fixed that problem and still allowed me to have my small sipping cup. Set up of both the cup and app is pretty much a no-brainer. The process is very straightforward and not overly complicated, which is an underappreciated touch these days, in my opinion. As cool (hot?) as the Ember is, it’s still a cup, so let’s not make it too difficult, right? Mission accomplished.

Ember has clearly put a lot of thought into their cup (and I’m sure the rest of their product line). This cup was engineered to be much more than a container for keeping your coffee warm. It was designed for aficionados who want enjoy their bean extracted beverage for more than just 10 minutes. That means they paid attention to surface texture, lip design, size and volume, metals, finishing, and more. The idea behind this cup is to keep keep your coffee warm, then get out of the way to let you enjoy every last drop. Below are some PROs and CONs, and the CONs are mostly nitpicks on the app. PROs • Cup lip is well designed and avoids spills as you sip. • Unlike a hot plate style mug warmer which are far cheaper, the Ember plate does not get hot and is touchable. That also means it’s easy to clean and an occasional coffee drip will not burn in. And, that also means the bottom of the cup itself remains touchable. • The app lets you set a temperature other than the default 135°. It’s a straight forward app and will notify you when the temperature reaches your desired setting. The max temperature setting is 145° though it measures temperatures that are higher. For example, when the coffee from my espresso maker first fills the cup, the temperature is registered as 150°. • Though made of metal, the cup does not impart any flavors or scents. When you sip the coffee, you taste only the coffee. I’ve used metallic thermoses and sometimes they subtly change the taste of the coffee. CONs • Because the warming element is at the bottom of the cup, the temperature of the liquid at the top will be less than your setting. Once you get to the bottom of the cup, you’ll sense that the beverage is hotter. While this is obviously common sense, I list it as a con because at this price point, I hoped some warming elements were built into the side of the cup as well to keep all the beverage closer to the desired temp. • When trying to pair the app, it does not have the cup on the default list yet. But it does recognize the cup once paired. This will be a little confusing until the app is updated. • App shows temperature as the main setting and have to click to settings to see the battery level. The battery level should be on the main screen as well, I think. • The app requires reconnecting to the cup every time you launch it (but not repairing). Would be nice if it auto connected when the mug is turned on or charging. • The app requires signing up for an account. However since the cup works without the app, there’s no reason why an account is necessary except for marketing. Without the app, the cup keeps all beverages at the default of 135°. OTHER • 6oz capacity so limited to cappuccino, flat whites or similar sized beverages. • There’s a warning to not get liquid on the charging plate. Hopefully a little bit won’t damage it as it inevitable when drinking coffee or tea frequently. I am guessing that what they really mean is not wash the plate. • The plate requires charging into an outlet, so you can’t use a computer USB port. It probably needs more power than what a USB can deliver. At this price point, clearly this is a premium product. If you just want to keep coffee warm in your “World’s Greatest Dad” mug, then get an old school hot plate warmer. But if you want to savor your special roast, your perfect cappuccino, and enjoy your coffee ritual, then get an Ember.

The Ember 6oz Temperature Control Smart Mug lives up to the Ember reputation being a splendid addition to smart kitchen gadgets. A small size with no handle being the set apart factors. Being 6oz, the cup is the perfect size for the at home espresso, latte, cappuccino. With the 6oz size, comes an adorable presentation. Fits easily into the hand (no handle included) and looks sleek doing so. Drinking from the 6oz Ember is comfortable. There is a saucer included that provides the base for charging. There is a limited battery life of about an hour, hour and a half. With that in mind, a 6oz drink should likely be consumed within that time -- and if not, if left on the saucer there is no time limitation. The key of this mug being, it works. The mug assists in maintaining temperature control for beverages. Of course, this is an absolutely luxury item to be able to maintain a drinks warmth instead of slowly cooling; however, if this is a luxury you desire, the Ember 6oz will help to achieve. An important detail, is being a smart mug this product requires hand washing, with the bottom charging saucer is to remain dry, so just need to be careful. The small size of the cup utilizes app functionality well. The Ember app allows for control of temperature, rather than there being a large interface on the cup to adjust temperature. The max temp being 145F. Even without the application, the cup will maintain temperature but limited to no specific temperature control. Having this interface results in a more streamline appearance of the cup itself.

At first I thought that this mug was going to be kind of small to be my regular daily coffee mug at six ounces. But after getting it I was pleasantly surprised to how big it is. I guess I am not too good at judging ounces. It is very easy to setup as you download the app and connect the mug. In the app you can select your customer color for the one light it has, which is pretty cool. As soon as I got it I made a French press and poured it into my Ember mug. The coffee came out of the press at 185 degrees. The mug defaults to 135 degrees for coffee. I sipped my coffee for several minutes while I monitored the temperature. It eventually hit 135 degrees and it held. It was super cool. I was able to enjoy hot coffee all morning long without wasting any of the coffee by it going cold. My French press is insulated so it also kept the coffee hot prior to pouring it into the Ember. I can honestly say that I enjoyed my weekend morning coffee in a whole new way. I have a pour over coffee maker that is glass and does not insulate the coffee so I cannot wait to use it with this Ember so that it can keep the coffee hot. I am very excited to have this coffee mug! I will be using this mug every single weekend. I did not find any flaws with this mug. It connects every time with no issues and it keeps the coffee nice and hot. The battery also lasts several hours. The battery life will depend on the temperature you set it to. I love it!

I received this product in exchange of an honest opinion and review of the product. I love coffee and tea especially hot tea. I usually don't use special things to keep it hot though. I have found I cautious into spending ,$200 for their travel cup which is why I never bothered to try a product like this before in the past. Anyways this cup is only 6 Fluid ounces which is quite small for coffee but for something like an espresso this works great. I just use this with my Kurieg and set it for six fluid ounces. You want to install their app which allows you to control the temperature of how hot you want to keep your coffee at anywhere between 125⁰F -145⁰. Of course you can change it to Celsius if you so choose as well. The cup and the small plate which is also where you charge the cup is nice looking as well. It is a solid black color and I find it fits well where I keep my laptop at which is where I usually enjoy my coffee. The device is made out of metal and it feels sturdy as well so I imagine it will last quite a long time as well

    The Perfect Espresso Cup

Oh, how I’ve waited for a product like this! I love coffee & espresso, but the moment it’s poured into my mug or cup, it begins to cool down. Within a short time, it loses its optimum flavor & peak enjoyment. I’ve been using those cheapo mug warming plates for years, & although they work pretty well, they limit my mobility. I kept a warmer at the house & one at the office. But my mug had to stay on the warmer at all times. If I took my mug with me to another room, my coffee was soon lukewarm. And I can’t count the number of times that I left the house or the office only to then wonder whether I’d remembered to turn off my warming plate. For fear of burning the place down, I had to race back to double-check it. Thanks to the Ember Cup, those days are over! YAY! This 6 oz. cup is the perfect size for an Expresso, Latte or Cappuccino. You can use it without the Ember App, but it’s much more fun with the App. Once you create an Account (all you need is name, email & password) & pair the App with the cup, you can personalize the LED color that displays on the cup. This is helpful if you own more than one cup (set to different temp settings for coffee vs. tea, etc.) &/or multiple users in your household. The default temp setting on my cup was 135 degrees, which is perfect for me. But the App includes a slider to adjust the temp to your liking. There are also some presets for different coffees & teas, a tea timer & some drink recipes. The Good Stuff: - The cup heats up very quickly & notifies you when it’s reached the desired temp. - The outside of the cup is cool to the touch. - On a full charge, battery life is about 90 mins. - The App includes instructions & an explanation for the different colored LED lights. - The mug maintains a consistent temp. There’s really no downside to this cup. You do have to hand-wash it, as it’s not dishwasher safe, but that’s understandable given the inherent technology. And it does take a long time to charge (2-3 hrs.) if the battery is fully depleted. Otherwise, this is a great invention that makes modern living more enjoyable. Now, I need to buy the Ember Mug for my regular coffee.

I had been looking at Ember mugs for some time, but just never could understand the hype or really the effectiveness of them. After using one for a week I have to say I'm really impressed by this little cup. Initial setup is pretty simple, you don't even need the app to use it right out of the gate. By default it is set to 135, which is probably a good temp for most host beverages. Pairing it with the app is easy, and I like the quick options in the app to select the type of drink currently in the cup. The app will show if it's currently heating, or waiting for the beverage to cool itself down to the desired temp. It will also show if it's heating up to temp as well. I found that the claimed battery life of about 1.5 hours without charging to be accurate. Though I recommend putting it on the charging coaster often, as charging from a depleted battery does take quite a while. Milk drinks like cappuccinos or lattes will coat the side of the mug in a milk film unfortunately. Presumable because the cup needs to be slightly hotter than the holding temp, to keep the entire beverage at that temp, I haven't checked surface temp while heating but that's my guess. Regardless of that it's easy to clean, the soft texture wipes up very easily by hand with regular dish soap. The only annoyance I have with it is it never really turns off. Sure you can hold the power button for 3 seconds to"turn it off" but I find it wants to come out of sleep at the slightest touch so I never really know if its off. If it's sitting on the cradle charging placing anything down nearby that causes it to move ever so slightly, has the status LED lighting up like a Christmas light. It's off? Or is it? Check the app....ok it's actually off. Why are you lighting up when I'm not even using you? I'm probably being pedantic here but it does bother me enough to point it out. Overall it's a great product, I never realized how quickly regular mugs lose temp, and how great it is to sip a beverage and have it be hot for the entire time you're enjoying it. The price makes it a tough pill to swallow, but lit really is a fun experience overall.

*Setup* Yes this cup requires setup, however its fairly simple, charge the cup, download the App to your phone and then pair it to the app so you can update firmware and set the preferred temp you want as alerting you that the temperature has been reached. *Usage* Pour in drink and adjust the temp in your app if you wish and enjoy. Really is that simple. Nothing more complicated then that. You don't need the app, once you set the temp, it will remember, but if you want to adjust you can. Battery life off the saucer for me was around 90ish minutes which was handy when I got caught up with work that I didn't get to my drink. It was still warm which was nice. The biggest problem I have with this mug is, it is only 6oz. so most of the time I'm done with the coffee/tea well before I'd need a mug to help keep it warm, so I'd highly recommend getting a larger one, but if you a slow sipper/drinker this definitely would be the cup for you as you can use it to keep your drink warm up to 145F all day (if you leave it on the saucer that is plugged in) or 90 mins on battery. Overall this is a neat little mug that will actively warm/keep the drink warm. If you wanted something different from a insulated Mug with a neat RGB you can give this a try.

Expensive way to keep drinks warm

The Ember temperature controlled “smart” mug is a useful but expensive way to keep those hot drinks warm for extended periods of time. I have been using it for the last couple of weeks almost everyday as part of my daily morning coffee ritual, and here’s what I found out about it: Pros: - Very well build and feels sturdy to hold, especially with the rubbery coating - Ergonomics is good, even without a traditional handle - Charging is seamless with the charging coaster using only 2 pogo pins to connect to the cup charging ring. I was able to make good connection in every try - Temperature control works as described. By default it’s pegged to 135℉ (which can be changed with the Ember app from 120℉ to 145℉ - App works well Cons: - This is a 6 oz cup, so only suitable for small drinks (like espresso shots, small latte, tea, etc.) - Battery life is ok, but I needed charging almost every day - The mug was supposed to “sleep” when empty and when not being moved. However, almost every day I found the battery depleted. Since it wakes up whenever moved, it’s difficult to say what mode it was in unless checked on the app - Instead of a barrel-type connector, a USB-C charging port would have made it more travel friendly - A bit too expensive for the size

The Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug is a rechargeable battery powered mug that keeps your hot beverages warm. The mug sits on a charging base that is plugged into the wall outlet. There is a light on the mug that gives the charging status. When off of the base the light lets you know when the battery gets low, when the mug is heating your liquid and when the mug has reached your desired temperature. The app was easy to pair with the mug. I was a bit confused because the app opens to a page that looks like it wants you to pair the mug with the phone again, but I found that if you touch the image of the cup it takes you to the paired cup. I imagine that if you have more than one mug there will be more than one image to touch. The app allows you to set your desired temperature between 120 degrees and 145 degrees. The mug senses being empty and having liquid. When it senses having liquid, the mug begins to heat, and the app shows the progress towards the set temperature. This 6 Oz. mug is the perfect size for a latté macchiato from my automatic espresso machine. The latte comes out around 130 degrees. I have the mug set for the max at 145 degrees. It only takes a couple of minutes to reach the target temperature. Aside from raising the temperature initially, the mug keeps the brew warm if I get sidetracked. I found another interesting use for the mug. We occasionally drink warm Sake. The ember mug keeps our warmed sake at the perfect temperature. The tokkuri that sake is served in usually lets the sake cool quickly. The ember mug does a great job at keeping my coffee and sake warm. If I could change one thing, I would wish for the ember mug to get warmer than it does.

This mug is designed to keep your drinks hot and at a temperature that can be defined in the app. With a 90 minutes battery, the mug doesn’t need to be powered for that time. I would consider that time as its autonomy. The mug needs to be recharged in the charger, but once the battery is fully charged, doesn't need to be on the charger. You use the Ember app to set your temperature and the mug heats the drink if the initial temperature is lower until the selected one is reached. In the app, you can also find some recommended temperatures as pre-settings. The app is also an important part of the process because sends you notifications when the desired temperature is reached. From an aesthetic perspective, I like the style and the fact that is easy and safe to handwash. I definitively like the outcome delivered by the mug but I am not sure that I would recommend someone to purchase one. With the initial investment in mind and the number of times that need to be recharged, I am not sure how fast my investment would be depreciated.

I've seen the battery powered Ember mugs in Starbucks before, and while I was always somewhat intrigued by the concept the cost always kept me from trying one out. So when the opportunity to try out the cup came up, I figured it would be a great way to satisfy my curiosity and perhaps enhance my espresso/tea drinking experience. However I'm sad to say that after a few days with the Ember cup, I'm less than impressed. One thing that I can say is that the product is not poorly made. The build quality seems solid, it is pleasant to look at (particularly with the included charging base/coaster,) and the app is quite well designed. It's very easy to clean in the sink (for obvious reasons it is not dishwasher safe.) And it does everything it says on the box. My drinks stayed warm for as long as the battery lasted, keeping that freshly poured taste. In fact they got slightly warmer as I drank them, since the main heating element seems to be at the bottom of the cup. The tech works. ...But it's a six ounce cup. To me, the appeal of this thing is that it lets you keep sipping and savoring your beverage over several hours. But even at my most conservative, I don't spend hours finishing off six ounces of liquid unless I'm out in the field occasionally sipping out of a thermos. At first glance this looks like something you can nurse, but that's only because a full third of the cup is taken up by electronics. What's more the electronics add a ton of weight to the bottom, making it a bit uncomfortable to hold without a handle. The best use case appears to be to keep it right next to a carafe so you can pour small portions and have them heated back up - but when you do this it doesn't keep that fresh poured taste and I'm left wondering if I'm actually any better off than I would be if I'd just nuked it. I'm sure that somewhere out there there are people who like to go through an espresso one tiny sip at a time, and they will probably love this thing. But for everyone else, I'd recommend you just spring for the mug.

I received this 6-ounce Ember mug a few days ago. I am a lover of coffee, love espresso and anything brewed which contains a coffee bean. I am particularly fond of this gadget for several reasons. First and foremost, I like to read while I sip my coffee. To this end, my coffee never remains hot enough until I finish. I frequently lose track of time and my coffee always get cold. Enter the Ember mug and problem solved. Now I am able to have my coffee remain at a desired temperature from start to finish. The product has an internal heating which keeps my coffee at the desired temperature from start to finish. How cool is that! You are able to set the temperature of the mug (via app) and your coffee will stay at that perfect drinking temperature. Having the ability to tweak the temperature setting via app is really nice. The mug holds a decent amount of your favorite brew. The mug lacks a handle, however the size of the mug makes it just right to hold without one. It also has an led indicator which indicates charging levels. I found that the battery decreases in charge about 2 percent per minute during usage. I usually have about two cups of coffee and it had sufficient charge to operate during my drinking time. The mug senses when you have finished drinking and automatically shuts down. That's a really nice feature and preserves battery life. All in all, I found the Ember mug to be quite enjoyable. It managed to keep my brew at my desired drinking temperature and the app was found to be responsive. I thoroughly enjoying this product.
