It doesn’t seem to affect this fryer and I don’t really know where it’s supposed to go.

The name "air fryer" is a bit deceiving. This is really more of a convection oven. It cooks really quickly. Not something you would buy for a family because of it's size. This particular model can onlt do a handful of fries or 2 chicken wins at once.
