I use this for college and I multitask a lot. It did okay the first few months but after about a year, even with virus protection, it glitches like crazy. Time to move onto a mac.

I’ll mention that this review is for the HP - Envy 17.3" Touch-Screen Laptop model 17M-BW0013DX which is very similar to another HP laptop. But a big difference is that this item has Optane Memory and a faster HDD. So with the Optane and a 7200 rpm 1TB drive, you have speed and quite a bit of storage. The use of Optane memory gives this laptop speeds that are more like an SSD and you do get an 8th generation Core i7 processor. So it is fast with great performance and with the gen 8 Intel Core-i7 with 4 cores and eight-way processing, you can run many programs at the same time without too much loss of performance. I had no trouble running some apps like Photoshop Elements, Thunderbird (email) and LibreOffice and browsed the web at the same time. Optane memory is actually physical hardware like an SSD but using Optane memory you can get a better price point with very nice performance. (If you are interested look up Rapid Storage Technology). The physical design of this laptop is big and bold. You have a very bright 17 inch display and the entire unit has a sleek design with beveled sides. One thing to be cautious of is that even though the sides are beveled, when you insert a cable or USB key for example, you insert parallel to your desk surface. The keyboard is backlit and a must have if you travel on a plane or work in a room that is not well lit or you have older person tired eyes like me. A wonderful feature is that when you open the unit up, the design causes the back of the unit to raise up so that your typing angle is on a slant (front lower than back); it’s like the unit has the feet you see on a standalone keyboard. I think this design will become standard since it is so comfortable to type on this keyboard due to this slant. It is also a touchscreen and automatically adjusts for available light. I did check the HDMI port and the resulting display on a smart TV was brilliant. Also the music playing ability of this laptop is outstanding due to the Bang & Olufsen Audio speakers – really nice. You get three standard USB ports and you also get one C USB port. Also a unit this thin with an optical drive is a pretty nice design feat. Another audio point is the dual array mikes. A dual array uses digital signal processing (DSP) to isolate audio sources. This microphone can follow a speaker while she/he moves around a room. A great feature if you use this laptop in business meetings for presentations etc. The fingerprint reader on the right side of the unit is simply a small slot, but it works really well. I like the design of putting it on the side not the top of the unit which is more user friendly as far as I found. You will need to update the OS to the latest Windows 10 as it comes a bit down level, but the update was easy. Also it has McAfee installed so if you want a different security software, you will need to uninstall it. Turns out that removing McAfee is easier now (at one time you had to use a special uninstaller). With the Optane memory latest dual band wireless, the DDR4 memory, the huge touchscreen and the nice price point; this is certainly a recommended choice if you like the larger 17 inch laptops, excellent speed and quite robust functionality.

Not satisfied with this particular laptop. I am going to bring it in to see if I can return it and get a different laptop. Have had several problems and the cord that was included with laptop was a dell power cord not the correct power cord. Best Buy did acquire the correct cord and get it to me but overall I do not like this purchase. The first time I have been dissatisfied with anything I bought at Best Buy. 1st laptop and did not realize it was too big to conveniently carry from place to place.

Broke down 3 months after I bought it. Had several problems and had to use the Acronis software I bought to reinstall a previous image of my C drive. Now 2 and a haft years after I bought it my version of Windows 10 has reached its end of life service. What's next! I ran SFC this morning and the software indicated that it couldn't fix all of the corrupted files. But I can still use it so that's a plus.

Got the laptop and set it up used it minimaly because I was waiting for time to transfer files. I went to use it and the computer would not load and the troubleshooting said the hard drive was bad. Didn’t like the picture too much on it as the colors seemed off and could not figure out how to adjust it. The edges were sharp and uncomfortable to use. Not a fan of this product and returned it to the store.

The laptop arrived well packaged in a sturdy box surrounded by foam. In the box were: the laptop, cord, and instructions for set up. Set up was quick and easy making it ready to use within minutes. The display is large making it great for gaming, photo editing, or split screen work. SPECS: Hard Drive: 1TB 7200 rpm SATA External Ports: 1 HDMI 2.0; 1 headphone/microphone combo; 1 RJ-45; 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge). Also an SD card media reader Expansion Slot. Size: 17.3” display. Dimensions are 41.6 x 27.8 x 2.31 cm (16.37 x 10.94 x 0.9 inches) Memory: 12 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB) Microprocessor: Intel® Core™ i7-8550U (1.8 GHz base frequency, up to 4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) Video Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated) Display: 17.3" diagonal FHD IPS WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass (1920 x 1080) Keyboard: Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with numeric keypad Audio: Bang & Olufsen, dual speakers Webcam: HP TrueVision HD Camera with integrated dual array digital microphone Sofware: Comes loaded with Windows 10 Home 64 and the usual HP software, most of which I don’t need or want (except the HP ePrint and perhaps the recovery manager), so I would prefer if most of that extra HP software were to be provided via free download on the HP site. It also comes with Netflix and Cyberlink Power Media Player preloaded. It includes a 12 month trial version of McAfee LiveSafe. Pros: Excellent screen resolution and sound. The backlit keyboard is a feature that I liked more than I realized I would because I hadn’t realized how often I used to lower my screen enough to shine a light on the keyboard until I didn’t have to do it anymore. I also love having the multiple ports because I like to keep an external mouse plugged in and can easily plug in my external backup drive and my phone and Fitbit charger cords without having to unplug other devices. I do a lot of photography work so I appreciate the 1TB hard drive but may need to replace it with a 2TB before long. However, for now I’ve got the bulk of my work backed up safely on 2 separate backup devices. I’ve used other processors and prefer Intel over the others. This laptop comes with their latest version. I really appreciate the long battery life (the specs say up to 9 hrs.) I can take it anywhere and work without plugs for a long time before worrying about low battery life. The size is both a pro and a con. I've used it for photo editing, movies and gaming and the larger size is a huge plus for those uses. However, it is a bit larger for travel so I may end up sticking with my smaller laptop when I go on trips. Cons: None I could find Overall, I would give this laptop my highest recommendation.
