Simply a well built, fast, laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first impressions of this HP ENVY were how solidly it was built. I've used some lenovo laptops that fold into tables and the quality of construction has been flimsy on those. Not on this. This feels like it is a sturdy well build machine. It is on the heavier side of things at about 5 pounds, (4.7 to be exact) however, that's not a reason to avoid this particular model. Setup was relatively easy, and it took me about 15 minutes. I do not use, and will probably never use, Cortana, but using that may have sped up the setup process slightly. The machine uses an HP Assistant that helps you search for any necessary updates for the laptop. I found that convenient as there were a few small updates to process after opening. Other than that, the rest of the setup was simple. Overall performance of this laptop is excellent. However, keep in mind that I AM NOT GAMING ON THIS LAPTOP. This is meant to be a workhorse for me and I think it will do the job just fine. Having multiple browsers open on multiple sites while streaming audio and video I did not notice any speed degradation on the laptop itself (or my network) which is nice to see as I have some cloud based apps that function better on Firefox, others that function better on Chrome and I prefer MS Edge for browsing. I really like the touchpad option on this laptop. It is responsive and easy to use. While I don't find myself needing a stylus, it's nice to know that if I were to ever need it for some sort of artistic application, it seems to be responsive and detailed. Overall, I would say that this is a very high quality, non Intel based laptop. The speed and response times have been excellent and after playing a game demo so I could test the graphics, I can now say that the graphics, while certainly not top of the line, are quite good for a laptop that utilizes an integrated GPU. I would recommend this for business applications, surfing the web, and light gaming.

Impressed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had 3 or 4 HP laptops over the years, my experience has been that they've seemed somewhat oversized and clunky as compared to the competition that was available at the time. This one has given me a fresh perspective. It's very stylish - the smoke grey aluminum finish looks great and has a nice tactile feel. (That's a word I usually associate with keyboards, but yes, the keyboard does have a nice touch to it.) The thin profile is deceiving, it has a good amount of heft to it, and a very solid & well put together feel. That all means nothing if it doesn't work, but I found the performance to be better than expected. Whether it's the AMD chip, the solid state drive, or a combination of the two that does it, I'll leave that to the detailed technical specs to determine. I can just say that I found it to start quickly, both initially and on returning from sleep. The initial setup was the best I've seen so far, it set up quickly including connecting to the wifi network. The Vega/Radeon graphics were crisp, clean, and bright. Logged onto Netflix, sampled both film & animated clips, and found the quality to be excellent. This was enhanced by the B&O speaker setup; this unit sounded better than the built in speakers on the last 3 flat panel TV's I've bought! I was happy with the full boat of outputs, including an HDMI & USB C ports. All nicely & neatly arranged & accessible. Very well put together. If I had to throw a knock on this unit, it would be for the touch screen. I found that I needed to give a bit more of a press than what I would expect; definitely needs a bit more of a heavy touch than say, an IPad. An active stylus would seem to be a very welcome addition; I'll be shopping for one shortly. If you're in the market for a convertible; and don't mind the heft of this piece (close to 5lb), this is a good value for a solid unit. Good job, HP!

A Solid and Versatile Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After spending a week with this laptop, I have come to appreciate its design, versatility and quality. I have not run into a single problem or had any delays or slowness while working on it. To me that means that the laptop has been tested adequately for compatibility between its software and hardware - something not all new laptops are successful at. Below are a list of pros and cons about this laptop. Pros. The pros to this laptop are many. It is small and light, but yet still has room for a numeric keypad. Compared to my older HP Envy, there is almost no room around the screen, which helps make the laptop smaller despite having the same screen size. Also, the screen plays videos in high definition and looks very high quality. It is also a touchscreen. I also like that the laptop has facial recognition. The processor is so fast that there is literally no delay in recognizing my face. The computer turns on faster than I could hit the enter button! The laptop is loaded with versatility and other great features including tablet mode, a backlit keyboard, a noiseless solid state drive, plenty of memory, and lots of USB and HDMI ports. Cons. There aren't really any cons I can point out. I guess a disadvantage of this laptop is that the integrated graphics card does not have enough memory to run high graphic games, and because it is integrated it cannot be upgraded (according to the rep at Best Buy). Overall, this laptop is versatile, speedy and high quality and I would highly recommend it.

Smart design, small but fast SSD
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The bottom line is that I really enjoy this laptop and, with just one caveat, I’d confidently recommend it to almost anyone looking for a general purpose PC. First, I love the color and the over design aesthetic. The screen hinges are nice and have a patterned swirl that makes it look more stylish and classy than just another 2-in-1 rectangle laptop. I also love the keyboard -- backlighting has become a crucial feature to me and the keys on the keyboard stand out to me as easy to read and as just a real joy to use. Performance is great in this price range and is really helped along by the small but speedy SSD. I mention “small” because that’s probably the one caveat I would have for recommending this as a general purpose PC. If you live your life almost entirely online and just need a computer as your gateway to the Internet then a 128GB SSD is plenty and you may not even consider it small. If you’re a heavy business, graphic, or technical user who finds yourself frequently hauling around lots of large files (think ISO libraries, virtual machines for demonstrations or cross-OS development, etc.) then 128GB can get uncomfortably cramped real quick. That’s not a fault of the laptop though because you should be aware of the drive size before you buy it, I’m just mentioning it to make sure you’re aware and factor it into your decision. But if you live in the cloud or just otherwise don’t need large amounts of local storage, the 128GB SSD is a great performer that pairs very well with this laptop. One thing I have long liked about HP computers is the HP Support Assistant for keeping the computer up-to-date with the latest patches. And if you have multiple HP products the HP Assistant can help you keep track of multiple systems -- computers and printers especially. If you’re like me -- the one in the family that everyone else looks to to keep the Internet, tablets, computers, phones, and printers connected and running smoothly -- that multiple device insight from a single computer is a genuine benefit. So it really comes down to two things -- if you’re not a hardcore gamer, and if you don’t need a lot of local storage, then this is a smartly designed and well thought-out 2-in-1 laptop that should meet your needs very well. For the money I would recommend this easily.

Pretty sweet laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The specs on this laptop are pretty "standard" for the most part. The Ryzen chip seems quite fast. I don't normally test chip speed or anything like that however, this laptop works as fast as I need it to which is all that really matters to me. The 8GB RAM and SSD make for quite a fast laptop; so it's fast enough to run pretty much anything you need to. The touch screen on this is a bonus for me. I don't normally use the laptop in its touch screen/tablet configuration but it is quite simple and easy to use. Only downside is that I think it's a tad on the heavy side. Other then that, really nice laptop for work/school or whatever you need it for.

An overall great value!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the HP Envy x360 predecessor to this one that came out in 2016. I’ve been a big fan of that model, so when I found out that HP was continuing to update the line, I was excited to find out if it would live up to its family name. I know that many people trash HP, but I’ve had a lot of success with their machines. Prior to this machine, my family has had 4 other HP Windows machines, and the new HP X2 Chromebook. All of them have been excellent machines that have served us well. This new Envy x360 has the same Dark Ash aluminum finish that my current machine has, and I’m a big fan of it. The all-aluminum cladding resists fingerprints and holds up well to normal wear and tear. This is a very good-looking machine! One thing I love about this line from HP is that they offer the option to purchase AMD processors. AMD provides just as much if not more performance than their Intel counterparts, at a much more affordable price. This machine is no exception, and together with the 128 GB SSD, you get very snappy performance. Startup is fast, and loading programs happens very quickly, faster than my other HP with a 1TB traditional hard drive. As is common these days, the x360 features a beautiful 1080 screen, which is also a touchscreen. While not super high-definition, the screen looks very nice and has good brightness. This laptop is also a 2-in-1, which means that its hinges allow you to fold the screen back around to use it as a tablet. While I think that 15.6 inches is too big to use it as an actual tablet, it is nice to be able to do that in situations when you need to have a lower profile and lay it flat on your lap. It also supports Windows Ink. I do not have an active stylus to try with it, but I’m intrigued by the concept. The speakers on this model sound good and have a good amount of volume. You won’t be blown away by them, but they’re quite good. They’re mounted under a nice-looking grill just above the keyboard. This is a good placement when you’re in regular laptop mode, but not so good when in tent mode, watching a movie. Nonetheless, I think most people will be satisfied with the performance of these speakers. Can you play games on this laptop? HP included AMD’s integrated Radeon graphics chip. You’re not going to be able to play intense high frame rate games on this laptop, but it handles games like Ultimate General admirably. I did experience a few issues with flickering of artifacts at higher resolutions, but this was fixed by lowering the resolution. Even at lower resolution, the game looked great and performed well. To me, this is the perfect combination for a laptop to hit--both productivity and fun, and the x360 does just that. I’m not a serious gamer, so spending a lot of extra money to get extra gaming performance wouldn’t be worth it to me. This is a great all-around performer, and I think it’s in a good spot with regard to value. My biggest complaint is the stingy size of the SSD. This is the one area that all device manufacturers overcharge for, and I don’t understand that. In today’s world, 128 GB is not very big, and it mars an otherwise excellent machine. You’ll either have to manage the space wisely, or you’ll end up replacing the drive or supplementing it with an external drive. A 512 GB SSD would have made this the perfect laptop. If you can accept this limitation, this is a very good value.

Good Powerful Laptop, Small Hard Drive Limits It
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Envy 2-in-1 is a powerful computer in a beautiful case, providing more than ample processing power & memory for everyday use and then some. The system is thin, fairly lightweight, and has a beautiful back bezel that makes this unit look classy in a meeting or at school. The screen is bright and easy to see with automatically-adjusting brightness for ambient room lighting conditions. The system's internals make the device actually a decent low-to-mid-level gaming PC with a good refresh rate both on the screen and when connected to an external display with an HDMI cable. USB 3 is included, allowing charging of the laptop from USB if you forgot your AC power adapter. The only 2 issues I found with the device are: 1. Lack of hard drive space. The device only comes with a 128 solid state drive, which in today's world is probably okay seeing most people save to a cloud service. But, if you're using the laptop for anything that requires locally-installed applications, like Office or Creative Cloud you may find yourself out of hard drive space quick. For gaming on this system, where locally-installed files are required, I've already maxed out the storage & am looking at having to acquire an external hard drive. But, if you're OK with cloud storage for your day-to-day activities, you should be fine. 2. The touch screen tends to activate when not actually being pressed, causing a jump across the screen. For gaming I had to disable the touch because it was jumping the mouse. I believe this to be specific to this laptop, as the other Envy I have does not have the same issue. Aside from the 2 small negatives, this is a good, powerful laptop for most day-to-day needs.

Great Laptop for the Price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this on sale, and another $100 for my daughter being in college. Set up is slightly annoying, between Cortina and HP, but doable. Removal of bloat like McAfee, games and some unused Win10 Apps was fairly easy with guides found online. It also makes the computer boot faster. Please HP, do not include antivirus malware like McAfee or any other similar software, all you're doing is upsetting the majority of your customers. Keyboard, screen and wifi connections are flawless. Was planning on upping the memory to 16gb but seems to run fast enough as is. Only wish is for a larger SSD.

10/10
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I personally love my HP. The quality is nothing short of amazing. The touch does not lag, super sensitive(in a good way). I love the clarity of it. If I had to pick at something it would probably be the glare, sometimes it’s almost like looking in a mirror. I’ve had my laptop for 6 years now and have not had a single issue. I also love that it’s 360 and can convert into a laptop for easier note taking in class. Would 10/10 recommend

Good for audiovisual a bit heavy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You are looking for a laptop powerful in the processor, with a big screen and a resolutive video card able (up to 1080p) to adapt the outcome to different alternatives (from a word document to a fast video game, passing from video cinema setup) and the sound is very important this is clearly an option that you should consider. Enough space in hard drive and a decent resolution touch screen makes this a very good option. All the ports included and easy Bluetooth connections make all my devices being easy to sync and work seamless. Battery life would vary depending the use of the screen and sound but in average I’ve obtained averages of 2.5 hours. Now, all those elements have the correspondent downsize in the form of a bigger size and a heavier equipment that you could not like to carry for regular working hours or for use it as a tablet in a web browser task, carrying it for long periods of time. Because I also believe that in the future the charging ports will be usb-c, I wish that hp would already move in that direction. As the majority of the new laptops, the setup is really simple and by signing with my Microsoft account and regular antivirus, my laptop was ready in less than 15 minutes. With so many options in the laptop aisle, this is a great option with a decent price if you are planning to use it for audiovisual.

Recommend for the casual user
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this for my son to use at college, thinking that the tablet / laptop combo feature would be valuable for classroom and at home use. After using the unit for a few days, it has proven to be a solid laptop. The display quality stands out and it is a very good laptop to use for video streaming. The unit also has a very nice streamlined appearance. It works well with Windows 10 and the Cortana feature seems to pick up my voice flawlessly. While the screen is a very nice size and it is nearly an edge-to-edge display, if you try tilting the screen while streaming, the touch screen gets activated and the stream will pause. This is merely a nuisance. The performance, memory, and disc capacity all seem appropriate with this unit. Overall this is a good performer and it seems well suited for a casual laptop user.
