A True Surprise
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've lived long enough to experience smaller, thinner, and more versatile computers with promises by companies that just go unfulfilled by the reality of their products. Going into this test, I had a pre-conceived notion of unpleasant things experienced about HP computers. For this reason of prior disappointments, I had no second thoughts about testing this model - I wanted HP to show me what they were made of! I want to say this LOUDLY and CLEARLY - this is ONE OF THE BEST LAPTOPS I've ever used for activities that do not include video editing or game play. This is hands down my favorite laptop ever when it comes to daily use and to do things that don't require loads of ram or processor cores to pull off the activity. VERSATILE - this laptop is right-sized - it is so portable, yet it also allows you to convert to a tablet in either portrait or landscape mode - ideal for certain activities like playing videos. FAST - with the SSD this is blazing fast at boot up and shut down - other activities are also helped - it is surprising how quickly the SSD is consumed once adding programs like I use in web design. I'll store the data elsewhere off the SSD in a more robust storage arrangement, but this unit is delicious to use in its responsiveness. TRACKPAD HEAVEN - while it took some getting used to about the larger than usual trackpad, the fact that it responds to right clicks and left clicks like a real quality laptop used to (much better than my ASUS or ACER units I have in my office). I no longer feel the desire to need a mouse to bypass a horrible trackpad. KEYBOARD - nice big buttons - back lit so well you can see what the keys say! Nice touch and precious little keyboard flex. Very solid. THE SCREEN - true HD - am now addicted to watching movies on this - crystal clear - nice color - pretty decent contrast - and it is a touchscreen! This unit is sweet! QUALITY - this is not a very expensive unit so the attention to detail on assembly and materials is first rate. I don't know if this is plastic or metal in construction (feels and looks like metal), but this is one unit that won't embarrass you in using. And that chocolate grey finish is very premium in execution. ARE THOSE REAL SPEAKERS? For once there is a laptop on a budget that produces nice sound that won't have you running for earphones. This has a Bang & Olufsen audio system and it is very good for the price - this is not a high performance machine, but these speakers do the computer justice nonetheless. CONCLUSION - I've been using computers since the days of fortran - I've never liked a computer this much - it is not a high performance diva - it is a solid do most things well product that won't disappoint. One of my colleagues bought a computer built by the fruit company that cost well over $1299 and was light and small like this - but hers looked like a toy compared to this. HP - you've done yourself proud with this high quality, light, versatile, and fast computer. This is a joy to use and now has become my go to unit for most things. You can buy a faster machine - you can buy one with more ram - you can buy one for more money or a bigger machine - but this might just be the best all around laptop on the market for under $1k. You also get two usb ports, a usb c, a microsd slot, and a battery that seems to give better than average charge life. The unit does not overheat. It is well balanced and made me a believer in HP being able to built superb computers.

Work Hard, Play Harder.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Envy x360 2018 model is a stellar beauty. The all aluminum chassis makes it sleek and feels like a premium build. It is very light and barely noticeable when in a backpack. The configuration I got is a 128 Gb SSD with an AMD Ryzen 5 processer and Radeon Vega 8 graphics card along with 8Gb of RAM. I absolutely love this laptop as I can both work and play on it with ease. As a project manager and designer I am able to boot up my programs faster and maneuver around in them with greater convenience thanks to the touch screen and pen capabilities. This convertible feature has been my absolute favorite and I don't think I can ever go back to a traditional laptop. The trackpad also feels really smooth and responsive while the backlit keyboard feels nice to the touch. This laptop is no slouch when it comes to gaming either. It competes with dedicated gaming laptops that are in that budget gaming sweet spot and it performs like a beast. The AMD Radeon card runs very smoothly and is able to handle ultra settings without frame rate drops and intense overclocking. In Call of Duty WW2 I did notice some screen tearing with a few frame rate drops at higher settings but it smoothed out after a couple minutes with flawless performance after that. Games like Killing Floor 2 and Fortnite didn't have a problem running on high and epic settings. I absolutely recommend this laptop for it's versatility, design, and price. Not to mention the Bang and Olufsen speakers that are just above the keyboard and underneath the laptop sound fantastic! My only concern with this laptop is the 128 Gb storage. Will definitely need to upgrade or get an external SSD. Overall, this laptop is my favorite one I have owned and highly recommend it.

No Good
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this during a back too school sale for my son who was starting college. I was reluctant to spend the money on a MacBook. This computer crashed three days after I purchased it. Took it back to best buy and the customer service rep said it happens sometimes. I could send it to be repaired or return it and get my money back. I returned it and went and purchased a MacBook.

Perfect (for just about everything!)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the last 8 years or so I've been a true believer in HP products. Their towers, especially, due to the fact that they can be easily expanded w/ additional bays, slots etc included. This, however is my first HP laptop - and for those that are of the TLDR crowd: I LOVE IT! That should sell you right there, as I normally nit-pick a bit with every product (there are only 2 minor issues with this unit - mentioned further below). The first thing that got me was the size and weight. The unit is THIN. And lighter than any laptop I have ever owned. This is impressive due to the hardware it contains. It will be a pleasure to be able to travel with the ENVY in my carry-on briefcase/laptop bag. It truly seems durable. It is either metal, or a really hard plastic. I really feel that this laptop can/will last quite a few years while being a "daily driver". That's the durability and confidence the build quality exudes. Before I get into the technical details, the touch-screen itself is wonderful. FHD IPS! Everything is crisp, clear and --- really breathtaking! What makes it better is that the screen is Gorilla Glass! I do believe this is the first product I've seen in this class "out in the wild" offering such. The first nitpick is that none of my styluses (or is it styli?) that I own work with the laptop. I've tried many, but no dice. I'll keep looking and will update this review once I find one that does! There's a reason the SSD included in this laptop is super fast. It's not your regular SSD! It's in fact, a PCIe NVMe M.2 drive. Meaning it's not connected to your Sata port, but rather a much faster PCIe port. This also saves on weight, as the NVMe drives look like mini RAM sticks. The speed is super noticeable on large file transfers. And just everything in general! The included 128GB of storage may be a bit short for those with large music libraries etc, so I would recommend utilizing an additional storage solution for those type of things (like the included micro-SD card slot!!!!!) This also is my first experience with an AMD chipset. I am pleasantly surprised! I did notice at first (and this is another of my nitpicks mentioned above) that at first the laptop ran really hot (like, don't set it on your lap fellas or "the boys" will get roasted). Oddly - this issue went away once a windows update (1803) was run. Just about everything minus the latest games will run without breaking a sweat. I really am surprised as I was a "fan boy" of the other processor company and believed the hype. The Ryzen 5 performs just as well if not a tad bit BETTER than the comparable chipset from the other company. The audio quality, whilst still coming from a laptop really is quite good. The quad speaker array by B&O really shines. There isn't much EQ "trickery" so that is definitely a plus. All in all this laptop is as close to being perfect as this price range allows. It is a great value, and Best Buy's price at the time of this review is much lower than competitors. If you want a laptop that is durable, sleek, FAST, and somewhat "future proof" - then this is for you! You can't go wrong in getting it!

Do not buy!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy this laptop if you plan to do anything with it! It cannot run excel & power point at the same time. Don't use this laptop for college. RUN, RUN as fast as you can! Oh wait. I have the HP Envy. Why would I want my laptop to function? It's not like I'm trying to use it or anything.

Fair price, a little ruff on setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP - ENVY x360 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - 128GB Solid State Drive. This 2-in-1 tablet is an entry level 2-in-1. The specs seem to be good but the overall performance is below what you might expect for this price range. The Good. Light enough to be truly portable. Battery charges relatively fast. Holds the charge for a descent amount of time while in use, about 5 hours of my light use. I expect this time may go up once the battery is fully broken in, I expect to see 6 or maybe a little better. Good port selection, 2 USB 3, 1 USB C, Micro SD slot, Headset jack, and a real charging port. The specs say HDMI out but there is no HDMI port, possibly a port adapter does this. Good display, full HD. Lighted power button. Lighted keyboard. Large track pad. Full AC Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Fast enough to be usable. Solid aluminum build. The Not So Good. Build quality is lacking slightly. Mine has an obvious hinge misalignment on the left hinge. It seems to work just fine but it does stick out a bit. The power button is on the side and it’s hard to press, but it does light up once you press it. The track pad, although very large for the size of the device, moves the cursor when you try and click right or left. This takes a bit of understanding on how to place your finger so the cursor movement stays on what you want while clicking. The Bad. Right out of the box I liked it. I’m an Intel person and all this talk about AMD Ryzen got me interested in this. I ran all the bench marks for a non gaming machine. I can tell you that the only thing you’re saving by getting the AMD version is cost. The Ryzen chip ran about 20 to 60 pts slower than the Intel equivalent. At startup there was a severe stutter in the audio. This went away after about a minute. Software and firmware updates did not go well. Software we will blame on Microsoft, HP gets a pass on that. But firmware was a nightmare. It was a continuous firmware update screen at every startup. For 2 days I watched the firmware update every single time I started the machine. I downloaded the latest firmware and BIOS from HP support and installed them manually. After that it settled down, however now I had a firmware warning in windows. After looking into this I rolled back the firmware driver in windows. Now everything is working. I will blame the firmware and bios issues on HP. They did not do a good job of testing their updates. The software issues lay at Microsoft’s feet. The SSD is just too small to be used for anything truly productive, it’s more like a phone SSD. The bottom line. For the price point this is a good 2-in-1 tablet. You may have to deal with a little heartache while first setting it up, but HP and Microsoft may have that figured out in another week. It supports AC Wi-Fi so the Wi-Fi speeds are very good. It’s small enough and light enough to be in your backpack and barley noticed. My personal feeling is I would throw another $50.00 at it and get an Intel version. But that’s me, not you. If you’re an AMD fan then this will fit right in and you’ll save a little money to boot. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend. I do like it now that’s it’s running correctly. Just don’t expect it to be a desktop computer replacement.

Super Sexy Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thin light and sexy. HP as come a LONG way from its OLD designs and bulky laptops. Here's what I love about this laptop: -Keyboard feels solid when typing -touch screen and touch pad very responsive -thin and light design. Charger and laptop around 3 pounds What I don't like about the laptop -speaker at full volume some distortion -glossy screen mean finger prints -hard to access internal components ( I want to upgrade RAM and hard drive) .

A beautiful and competent machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a beautiful machine. The size works really well as a laptop or as a nice sized tablet. The build is very solid and clean in a gray metallic case. The hinges work smoothly and don't bind. It's size allows great portability and it could easily fit in either a brief case or a backpack. It's super thin and just looks good all the way around. It sits on front and rear full width rubber feet (for lack of a better term). It's easy to position solidly even if one corner is off the desk. A nice feature. The keyboard is backlit, which is always a welcome feature. There's no dimming or color change option for the backlight, but it illuminates the keys well. Due to it's compact size, there is no dedicated number keypad. The keys themselves are a little oversized but fit well, and I found it easy to type on it. The key response is a bit lack luster though, and had a somewhat mushy feel. I've felt worse, but it is noticeable. The mouse touch pad is a nice landscape size and is smooth and responsive. The button clicks are solid and are easy to find regardless of having no visible markers as to their whereabouts. All in all, a nice keyboard setup. The keys are not loose and the entire deck is solid and well designed. The display is really a pleasure to behold. It has a glossy finish that makes the colors rich and deep. Top end resolution is 1920 x 1080. The screen is made from Corning Gorilla glass which should help to keep it scratch free. The touch feature is very responsive and only requires the lightest of touches to respond. Very clean integration between the glass and the edge. It's a little light in the number of ports it has. There's two standard USB ports and a USB-C port, an audio combo jack, a MicroSD card reader and the power input jack. There's no HDMI jack on this model, which may be a problem if you need one for presentations. It seems an odd omission for a machine that's clearly meant for business professionals or students. The audio is by Bang & Olufsen Audio. It's quite good for the size of everything and has a nice spacious feel to it. A cool set of adjustment options including a graphic EQ are also included. Streaming video and audio is very smooth and fast. Typing in my username and password on the Netflix setup page had me at my account in literally two seconds. No lag in the video whatsoever. This machine has an AMD Ryzen 5 processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory, a solid state 128GB drive, Bluetooth, wireless-AC networking, and a built-in webcam with face recognition. The drive is little on the small side but with a SSD, the size is typically a trade off for speed and price. With a great many applications available today as web based versions, cloud storage is now becoming a way of life anyway. But aside from this minor shortcoming, this machine is fast. It's a really nice selection of components, and it has an extremely fair price point. It would be a good fit as a student machine, and except for the small drive, would make an adequate business machine.

360 feature might be a waste of $ for most
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop. My Bamboo Ink stylus won’t arrive until next week, so I’ll post a comment to update my review. Our other Win10 laptop and Chromebook are also touchscreen, very handy. I like the 360 feature to switch between laptop and tablet but I don’t have much use for a windows tablet. I like our 360 Chromebook because I can use it as a laptop for 90% of my needs and play many of my android games. Charging: Two methods. 1) Dedicated power port for the included two-piece power cord. 2) USB Type-C port. This is convenient because I can use one AC adapter with a USB Type-C port + USB-C cable to charge my Chromebook, MateBook and this HP Envy. I can leave the HP single-purpose power cord behind. Screen: The 1920 x 1080 resolution screen looks great but the 16:9 aspect ratio wastes space. I’d much rather have a 3:2 screen with smaller bezels and more screen. This isn’t a phone where a 16:9 or 18:9 (2:1) ratio makes the overall device smaller and easier to hold in one hand. Tablet mode doesn’t benefit from this ratio either because you are still holding a device with 3:2 physical format while looking at a smaller 18:9 screen. I don’t use the camera enough to be happy sacrificing ½” of screen and then the HP logo wasting 1” of space. Give me that space in a 3:2 format screen. Online course, browsing the web, reading mail, games… EVERYTHING. How often do you wish you had LESS screen. Keyboard: There is enough travel to feel mechanical in this modern laptop age without feeling flat or mushy. I like the feel of these keys more than our MateBook. I’m middle aged so I appreciate the large font on these keys, easier to see. The keyboard backlight is too bright and doesn’t time out. Too bright is subjective but no timeout? There is only one brightness level -mostly too bright. I use the windows “Night Light” feature (blue light filter) in the evening and the bright glare spilling from underneath this keyboard is too much. When I am mostly working with the trackpad I toggle the keyboard light off and on again as needed. The down arrow direction key to the right of the trackpad is the worst offender followed by the ENTIRE top row of function keys. The glare from underneath these keys is distracting. Looking directly down at the keyboard isn’t a problem. I’m 6’2” and with the laptop in my lap, my viewing angle puts the glare directly in my eyes. The full-strength light spilling out from under the keyboard is much brighter than the diffused light from the surface of the keys. Distracting enough but the flaw is magnified when you have “Night Light” maxed on the warmest color setting. Sometimes I leave the key backlight on during the day and I still find it too bright. Trackpad: Tad too short. While customizing my wife’s start menu I ran out of room on the trackpad. Annoying but you learn to work around. I try to use a mouse whenever I can, but it would be nice to have more trackpad when scrolling up and down. Side to side is fine, plenty wide. Sound: Obviously subjective. My family compared the same songs on our Matebook X Pro and they both sound great. The MateBook sounds better but it costs more and doesn’t need to double as a tablet. Your youtube videos will sound awesome but for music -headphones, Bluetooth or Cast. Too many stickers. Once they are all gone the branding on the laptop is minimal. Heat vent: Most modern laptops vent heat near the hinge at the display. This has a side vent to support the 360/tablet mode and it works well. Reminds me of old laptops. Not a problem on a table but it might get toasty on your thigh. Really only an issue with games. Battery: It depends on usage, right? I find I need to charge (or use while plugged in) more than our 1st win10 touchscreen laptop.

Fast, Light and Well Made
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little 2 in 1 is fast and light, but also very well made. It feels nice to the touch and the finishing is grippy enough that it doesn't slip while holding in one hand. Setup was as with most windows computers. I followed the prompts and signed in with my Microsoft account. As always, I ran for updates first (after getting my favorite browser extensions loaded). After those ran their course, the first thing that I noticed is how fast this computer is. I was pleasantly surprised. We have an older desktop and my work computer that are not the fastest. Solid State is the way to go. Everything loads quickly and just as importantly, works quickly while you're using it. People forget about that. Also, it loads fast. I think from pushing the power button to seeing the home screen is 10 seconds. This is my first 2 in 1. I have a touchscreen laptop and a tablet with an attachable keyboard. This is not my preferred format. The keyboard is better than the detachable one, which I actually quite like. This is just better. Flipping around to tablet mode brings the prompt from windows to go into tablet mode. You can choose to have it change to tablet mode automatically or for windows to keep asking. If I have anything to complain about, it's the clarity of the screen. I thought that 1080 on this screen would be sharper than it is. In most use, it's actually clear enough. It's mostly with text that I feel that I would like a bit more sharpness. But with that said, for the price I would get this model again with the screen that it has. Battery life has been great and the charging time are faster that I would have thought. I haven't been without it when I needed it yet, and I have not used it while charging. Since it loads so fast, I've actually been turning it off rather than letting it hibernate or go into standby mode as I would with many other laptops. That has also saved a lot of battery. Overall, I really like this and even though I complained about the screen, it has replaced my higher resolution tablet and laptop. The size is great and it's so nice to work on something so fast. I hope that it maintains its speed as my other solid state computer has. Highly recommended.

Would make a great laptop for college student
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this is a very nice laptop. Between it’s small size, light weight, and good battery life, I can easily see this being a great laptop for a student. Even around the house, where portability isn’t as crucial, I find myself reaching for this laptop before my full size laptop. Miscellaneous notes/observations: -Despite what is listed in the features section, there is NO HDMI PORT. -Size/weight is just about perfect for portability. -Good, quality feel, without being too heavy. Yet not so light that it feels fragile. -Battery life is pretty impressive. Got a solid 4+ hours while performing updates, installing software, and working in web browsers - still had 25% battery left. 6 hours should be attainable. -Has two USB 3 ports, one on each side. -Only one USB C port, which can also be used for charging if you have your own charger. -Has micro SD card slot, not a full size. -Has dedicated home/end/pgup/pgdn keys. According to my kids, nobody uses these anymore anyway, but I’m old, so I’m glad they’re there. -Speaking of being old, I prefer to use my Function keys old-school; F1, F2, etc.. After much searching I finally found that you have to go in to bios to lock the Fn keys on, rather than defaulting to system functions like brightness, volume, play/pause, etc… -Same deal if you want the battery icon to show estimated time remaining on battery, rather than remaining percentage; head to bios. -Keyboard has average feel to it, and is backlit, but may be a bit too bright if working in a dark room. -Palm rejection on trackpad works remarkably well. This is usually one of my biggest gripes about trackpads, but no issues here. -Not a Windows Precision trackpad, so tracking is acceptable, and there are limited customization capabilities for multi-finger trackpad gestures. -Speakers are probably slightly above average for a laptop this size. -Volume and power buttons are on the side. -Display isn’t super-bright; may not be too usable in sunlight. -Charging is via a traditional dedicated port. The charger is a small brick, and does have a leader cord on it to plug in to the wall, so you don’t lose valuable plug space. -Does not come with any kind of case/sleeve, or a pen. Although it is pen compatible, so you could buy one separately. I have one from a different brand laptop, and it seemed to work fine.

Simple setup, beautiful screen, loud speakers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an easy recommendation. The HP Envy X360 is both a solid laptop and a functional tablet. Getting up and running with Cortana was fast and painless. 5 minutes later, I'm browsing the web and watching Netflix on the beautiful 13" screen - not edge-to-edge, but still stunning visually. The Bang & Olufsen speakers radiate sound and music so loudly it fills the room from such a small, portable device. I'm very impressed. Battery life is pretty standard for this setup, though I would've liked a 6-cell capacity. Processing speed is fast, with common functions almost instantaneous and most programs with very minimal lag. I like that the keyboard shuts off in tablet mode and remains off even if the computer is slightly ajar to have the screen standing upright. The keyboard keys are very responsive with large visible labeling and spaced out nicely for comfortable typing. Touchscreen is a plus, but in tablet mode, the onscreen keyboard is not a default setting and required some troubleshooting to get it working. Volume and power buttons are a little stiff, but I'm getting used to it. Overall, this is a sleek, efficient little laptop. The tablet functionality feels more like a gimmick than something that will be used aside from on a plane ride. Other than that, this is an impressive machine for its size. While it won't replace a desktop any time soon, it does make for a very functional portable work and entertainment station. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Almost Perfect - with a few misses
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When AMD released their Ryzen platform CPUs I was hoping that a mobile solution would be available soon for the budget minded consumer. In comes HP with the ENVY x360 with Ryzen 5 and Vega graphics. First impressions were very positive. The 13.3" 2 in 1 form factor with touchscreen is perfect for the road warrior, not too big and heavy nor so small that the touchscreen is difficult to use and has active Windows Ink capability. Resolution could be better but 1920 x 1080 is good enough considering the 13.3" screen. The Ryzen 5 mobile CPU and 8GB of memory is snappy enought for most needs. The Ryzen Vega graphics built into the CPU handles daily use applications with ease and is suitable for casual gaming. Roughly 12" x 8 1/2" x 1/2" and weighing in at less than 3 lbs (less power supply, which is fairly small and lightweight unlike gaming laptops which require a heavy brick power supply) the size is perfect for throwing into a daypack, sling bag or briefcase. The metal case is attractive Sound is more than decent using Bang & Olufsen audio technology pushing out 4 speakers. Crisp and clear but for serious sound you may want to pair it with a good bluetooth speaker set. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 3.1 type C port and a micro SD slot. Other basic stuff... wifi, bluetooth, NFC and built in Webcam and microphone are included. A few things I don't like about this laptop: 1. Why does HP insist on putting a 128GB SSD in a Windows laptop. Okay, I get it, for those wanting something a bit more functional than a tablet the x360 13 makes a decent enough alternative however, by the time you load Microsoft Office on top of Windows 10 half the hard drive is used leaving about half the hard drive for any other applications (games) and data. Sync your One Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox and it eats into that space quickly. I would have loved to see this unit come with at least a 240GB SSD which should be adequate. I have yet pulled the bottom off the laptop but I'm hoping that HP at least made the memory and SSD easily accessable so I can upgrade them myself. 2. SD slot is micro and not a full size SD card. If you have a camera that uses SD cards you'll need a dongle to be able to read on this laptop. 3. There is no dedicated graphics output, not even a mini-HDMI port. So, for the road warrior that needs to project you will need another dongle to convert USB to HDMI or VGA (depending on how old the projector is). Yeah, sure you can flip the screen around into an inverted V and display to the screen but at 13" that will limit audience those sitting around a table... maybe. 4. Price!!!! For an AMD system it seems price point should be reduced somewhat, especially with a 120GB SSD.

Great lightweight laptop with some downsides
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this laptop for about 5 months. Most of the negative reviews are pretty spot on when it comes to heat and connectivity issues, but the latter can definitely be fixed (HP support is no help, btw. But after I figured this out - I ended up loving this device! It took a little while though and I still have a few gripes about it. Cons: -The fans are pretty loud and the bottom gets very warm, even when doing basic tasks like loading webpages or watching Youtube. -The rubber stips that protect the bottom of the chassis comes off after a while. I'm assuming the adhesive melts off from the issue stated above. I use super glue periodically to put it back, but still inconvenient. -The WiFi did drop...a lot during the first few months. I used to have to use the troubleshooter to reconnect 4-5 times an hour at one point! After searching on forums, I figured out it's a power saving setting that disables the wifi adapter when it thinks it's in power saving mode (it's not, but other users figure it's a malfunction). Once you find it and disable it, the wifi works almost normally (I still need to manually connect once the laptop turns on). HP support was completely useless in helping me through this for the first few months. All the advice they gave me were basic things that I did myself. They eventually tried to get me to reset to factory settings. I'm glad I didn't since that would not have fixed the issue. -The touch screen is not that intuitive. I wouldn't recommend drawing on this but as a tablet, it works fine. -Battery life is HORRIFIC. I can barely get 2.5-3 hours on a full charge. Luckily the cord/power adapter is very light and easy to carry (Although no USB type c charging! You have to use the HP adapter they give you). On a side note: the power adapter is removable and seems like you can connect a wall plug directly into it (like a MacBook adapter), but after talking to HP support, they do not offer these as a stand-alone product to purchase. So if you have one in the box, great! But if not, you'll end up having to carry both the adapter and power cord. Again, they're not that big compared to others, but just a hassle knowing you're not going to be able to last long without them. -Front facing camera is not great. Works fine for video calls and Windows sign in, but would not recommend taking actual pictures with it. Pros: -It's a beautifully designed laptop. I get lots of compliments on it. And the 2 in 1 feature work very well. It's made of some sort of metal on the outside and a good quality plastic on the inside. It feels like a premium product when you carry it around despite being so light. -It's also surprisingly durable for such a thin and light laptop. It so far hasn't gotten any major scratches or dents and I brought it around with me to class frequently. Though I haven't dropped it to truly test it (hoping that doesn't happen!). -The screen is a good size, though the brightness is not too great when it is unplugged and it can't be returned to the full brightness. -The keyboard is not bad at all. I had to remap the "end" key (basically disabling it) because it was too easy for me to hit it while typing longer passages and it got very frustrating. The keys are quiet and have a good feel. The trackpad is a good size, but the way it clicks is not stellar. I opted to use a mouse instead anyway. -The speakers get nice and loud, though may not be the clearest. The speaker grill is set up as a soundbar above the keyboard. The fan is on the left side, opposite your mouse hand. I have no idea why more companies are not using this design! It makes soo much sense! -The AMD Processor is quite fast. My unit boots up from being completely turned off in about 3 seconds. I'm on Chrome in about 5-8 seconds after turning on the power button! Overall this really is a great laptop once I figured out how to deal this certain issues. The battery is something I've grown to live with, but I really wish the charger came with a wall plug on my unit. I haven't pushed the laptop too hard, but when I had multiple programs, folders, webpages, and videos up it worked pretty flawlessly and was able to multitask incredibly well. I haven't tried gaming too much on it, but I wouldn't recommend anything too demanding and would use medium to low settings. It did get really hot and loud playing older games on Steam, so not sure how it would hold up for something modern. Ultimately you are getting a thin and fast laptop that also is loud and hot with low battery life. Most laptops in this price range struggle balancing these around, so you have to know what you are prioritizing. If you are a student or do not have high computer needs, but would like to work efficiently and be able to move about easily, this could be for you.

A great convertible notebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full disclosure: I was given an ENVY x360 in exchange for a timely and honest review. I really like this notebook. It is almost exactly the same size as my 13" 2017 MacBook Pro. Very trim and light. It has an exceptional screen. Very crisp, bright, colorful and clear. The keyboard has nice action and his well backlit. Cortana helps with the setup, if you like voice assistance. I prefer silence and muted "her" after her introduction, but it can be helpful for those who don't need silence during the setup and like audible assistance. I set up the facial recognition and have come to like that a lot. I use it on my iPhone X all the time and find it very helpful. The system is very responsive and wakes up quickly. It has one USB-C connector and two USB A connectors as well as a headphone jack. At one point I needed the notebook to be flat while I stood above it to do some work. I like the fact that I can fold the screen flat and then recalled that this screen flips all the way around to convert the notebook into a tablet. When you do that it both changes the screen rotation and asks if you want to switch to tablet mode. I answered yes and the display changed to tablet mode while the keyboard became inactive. That was very nice. I could see this being handy. I constantly use my iPad and like using a tablet for many activities. I also found that I like using the touchscreen even when I'm in notebook mode. There are just times when touching the screen is easier and more intuitive than moving the pointer and using the touchpad. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. It is a high quality and handy convertible notebook.

Excellent Compact 13" 2-in-1
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been considering a laptop for some time; a 2-in-1 being an added bonus. After a full two weeks of putting the HP Envy x360 2-in-1 13.3" through the "paces", I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. The display is nice and bright, crisp, with the 13" size being amble for my purposes: web browsing, Excel spreadsheet work, etc. The keyboard is very tactile with perfect key travel. The touch pad is very responsive, easy to use and intuitive. Most remarkable to me is how quickly the HP Envy x360 boots up; due in large part to the solid state drive perhaps. Multi tasking on this 2-in-1 is easy to manage given the "Task View" icon that appears on the task bar. Simply click on the "Task View" icon and you can view miniature snapshots of all the open programs that are open. I am also finding the tablet feature very useful as well. You simply fold the screen backward and the keyboard automatically "sleeps" in order to avoid unwanted key presses. As you fold the screen backward, using the keyboard as a base, you can control the viewing angle of the screen. Or you can fold the screen all the way backward until the HP Envy x360 2-in-1 takes on the form of a tablet. Overall, the HP Envy x360 2-in-1 is remarkably well designed and easy to use. Fast performance, crisp display, and the tablet feature make this a great option for those considering a multi-purpose laptop.

Excellent performance, small package
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would like to start off by stating that this laptop exceeded my expectations. The key board feed back is excellent and the AMD Ryzen 5 processor has impressed. I am an intel guy at heart and prefer there processors for my desktop, but I am really leaning towards giving AMD a chance here in the future. The response time on this laptop is excellent and very responsive. Not to mention the performance of this laptop for the price is unbeatable. After the student discount I received this laptop for a little over $500 thanx to Best Buy and there flash sells. The screen and design of this laptop are unbeatable for the price and it being a 2-in-1. Could not be more happier with this purchase. Bought for college and do not regret it one bit. It also has a light up keyboard for working on homework on the late nights. Does give off some heat due to the vent being on the left side of the laptop but normal from a compact size laptop such as this. Buy before they run out because this is a great deal for around $630. $530 if your a student.
