Could have been one of the best laptops but..
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop after an extensive research for an SSD 2 in 1 laptop. I had it for more than a week but had to return it due to the wi-fi adapter issues. I was unlucky to have a defective laptop that keeps disconnecting and re-connecting frequently. Went to the store to check any updates and the associates re-installed the drivers again and confirmed that I should not experience any issues anymore. However, the issue persists and no updates were able to resolve it. I knew it is a major flaw in the design and compatibility of this beautiful laptop and decided to return it with in the 14 days window. While I was impressed by the beauty of the design, the 2 in 1 feature, the clear crisp screen and the super high speed of it, the wi-fi issues were a deal breaker. I wish I could have kept it if there were no connectivity issues. I am not sure if I could recommend it to a friend with this major flaw of the wifi adapter.

Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually switched from a MacBook to this laptop. the best buy employees were looking at me like I was crazy (lol) -- but I had the 12 inch MacBook and wanted a larger screen & a keyboard with more travel. I am loving this laptop so much. I use it for simple web browsing but so far, so good! I love having a touchscreen computer. For the price, you can't beat it.

Happy so far!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the size and weight of this 2 in 1! The speakers are better than expected as I play my videos/music. Easily connected to bluetooth speakers if you want another option. Very easy to type on and navigate on which is very important for me as a college student. Everything seems to move quickly for the most part, there is minimal delay on some programs. Battery life seems okay--it charges quickly and has lasted me about 8 hours with continuous use. I had a little trouble with all of the predetermined apps & programs--most of which I don't use but over time I was able to get the start menu/task bar/desktop with the appropriate programs I wanted. The font seems a little small and when I went to change it the settings said it wasn't recommended to change them? You can just pinch your fingers on the screen to zoom in so the font grows so it isn't a big deal but I'm not used to having to adjust that so often. I'm a 27yo college student so I'm not sure someone with poor eyesight would enjoy that much. There is no 10 keypad to the right, something to consider if numbers are important to you on your laptop. Very easy set up to begin with Siri-like voice command to help. Easy connection to Wi-Fi, downloading programs. It seemed to heat up pretty quickly but there are various settings with the fan to help with this I saw. The camera IS NOT the quality it showed in store. The pictures it showed in the gallery in Best Buy don't look at all like the pictures you can actually take. There were all these beautiful clear high quality pictures shown but I think you'd be hard-pressed to take a good pic on this (only front facing). The sensitivity of the screen is amazing! You can just lightly touch in the general area & get what you want--not in a bad way. No lag switching between laptop mode & tablet mode. I'm not used to the Microsoft app store but it is easy enough to navigate. Handy tips & notifications available or you can turn off if you desire. I feel a little concerned about the memory on this computer but I chose speed over memory and you can always backup your documents instead. This is a great 2in1 for college because the ability to carry it around, type easily, download items quickly, etc. I really like it so far!

Beautiful laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent an extra $180 dollars on this because the Dell one I bought would run super hot and the fan was way too loud despite its great specs. So far this laptop has been great! It's fast, quick and responsive. It runs warm despite it being under "load" but not super hot. The built quality is great and I love that it's slim. The display is very nice and bright. The keys have a nice touch to them. The mouse pad is a little longer than usual but easy to get used to. Speakers are great for a laptop. It comes with 128GB M.2 SSD but can easily be swapped out for more memory when the time is needed. If anything changes I will update!

Great With One Major Flaw Out Of The Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ryzen 5 2500U Processor, Vega 8 Graphics, 128 M.2 SSD, 8 GB RAM. Boots incredibly fast and has the performance for my needs. This falls under Multi-layer photoshop editing, Virtual machining with Linux, and doing Computer Science things. The processor is a quad-core similarly to the 8th generation Intel processors. Although a tad bit slower in processing power, it makes up with roughly 30% more graphics performance. In addition, I purchased the Surface Pen and it works flawlessly with this device. CONS Out of the box, the fan for the processor is disabled in the BIOS! This is a terrible idea for a 15 watt CPU to run fanless until it gets really hot. If you boot up the device and then press F10 you will enter the BIOS for the laptop. To turn on the fan setting, you will want to move your arrow key to the tab of [System Configuration] and ENABLE Fan Always On. Another con is the number of updates that are needed for it just to be up and running smoothly. If you can get past this it will be an amazing computer for you.

Awesome
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, this computer is amazing. It is one of the best looking models out. The performance has been great, the build quality is excellent, and it is super compact. I would definitely recommend to everyone. Switching to tablet mode is simple and fun. The only unfortunate aspect is the amount of bloatware that came preinstalled is a bit ridiculous. Other than that, couldnt be happier.

Great Overall Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok so this will be a quick review because I do want to clear up some things about this fantastic laptop. 1. The WiFi. Yes you might might have an issue out of the box. First thing I did was I went right to Intel's website and downloaded the most recent drivers for the WiFi adapter. 2. Under power management settings, make sure you set WiFi to "maximum performance" on battery. I did those two things and have not had any WiFi issues. About the RAM. Please keep in mind that this RAM is not upgradable. It is soldered into the board. Second, you have 8GB but will only be able to use 6GB in windows. The other 2GB is being shared with the GPU. If you want to upgrade the RAM you may want to think about the 15"version. All in all this is a excellent laptop. I am a graphic designer so I throw a lot at it. Gaming... you probably won't be able to run the newest AAA but I play cities skylines on all high settings and crysis 2 (I know it's old but still looks great) on high settings and runs beautiful. Great machine!

Wifi Issues seem to be fixed!!! Fingers crossed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop 3 months ago, optimized it and then stopped using it since its meant to be a gift. I was terrified after running it again 3 days ago and experiencing all the connectivity issues the wifi was giving me - like all the recent negative reviews commented. I then downloaded the HP assistant and the very first update that was highly recommended " wifi connectivity update" . I applied it and set it up. So far I have used it for 8 - 10 hours in last 3 days and ZERO recurrence of wifi loss. Whether this is sustained -remains to be seen. So far , I haven't had to call HP support and I truly hope it stays that way. Will publish another follow up in about a month. I have hesitatingly dropped one star from the review. If bestbuy allows it, I may review this laptop again and give it a full 5 stars. This is tremendous value for the features it has- you can refer to all glowing reviews that DO NOT mention wifi adapter issues!! I agree with all those positives.

I like this laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for college use. The build quality is amazing and the size is perfect for home or class use. the laptop handles most day to day tasks (i.e., browsing, office products, playing videos etc) with ease. The screen is not that bright or vivid, probably the least impressive 1080 screen I have seen. Also the laptop does heat up quick, good thing it is so light so you can pick it up or use the tent/tablet mode easily to let it cool off a bit. I haven't installed many pregames but I have already used more than half of the 128 GB storage. Still at $530 (with student discount) it is a good bargain.

Not bad, but understand what you are buying
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first this was everything I could want in laptop. It has a beautiful screen, suppose to give great battery life, and has integrated graphics on par with a 940m card. The laptop misses the mark altogether sadly. The build is nice being thin and light. The keyboard is a little too mushy for me, but still works. The dark ash color is attractive. The sound is also good. The first issue is that you have to make sure you update the laptop with drivers because battery life will change based on it. At first I was getting a little over 3 hours on battery saver mode, then after some updates I was getting a little more than 6 hours. It could be possible to get over 8 hours with some newer updates. The major issue is the wattage. The laptop is a 15 watt power laptop, versus the 25 watts of the 15 inch model. The issue that you will run into is that there is not enough power for both the CPU and GPU to run maxed out even while plugged in. I learned of this when running a game when on battery the game ran better, but once plugged in it became choppy, which is because there is not enough power for both. I'm not saying to avoid this laptop completely as it is a nice package as long as you know its limitations. If you want to play games that require more than Intel limited base graphics than an AMD Ryzen processor is the way to go unless you can find a notebook with the mx 150 in it for a good price.

Great for College
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have had this for about a month now and I love it! I take notes with it and can do all of my assignments on it. Decent battery life. I bought the pen to go with it and I would recommend it.

If only it stayed connected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really set on getting this laptop despite previous reviews about connectivity issues. I was assured by employees at the Best Buy store and the representative over the phone that they hadn’t heard of any complaints on this model. I was really excited to bring this puppy home, but sure enough, connectivity issues. Just picked it up from Geek Squad and they assured me updates were done and it stayed connected while there for hours. Got it home and connection dropped last night and tonight. My partners PC stays connected, so it doesn’t make sense it’d be a router issue, I wouldn’t think. Two laptops side by side but one keeps dropping and the other stays connected. I’m going to have to return before my window closes, pretty bummed about it.

Wrong Information SSD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the HP spec sheet said it had a 128 GB PCIe® NVMe ™ M.2 SSD a month ago, but now a 128 GB M.2 SATA-3 TLC SSD appears. Mine has a 128GB LITE-ON CV8-8E128 M.2 2280 SATA III SSD.

The drivers are trash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Save yourself the trouble and avoid the Ryzen platform at all costs especially from HP. The drivers are outdated garbage and cannot be fixed satisfactorily. The 17.7 drivers all have random BSOD or gpu errors (blue hue or rainbows) on most games or video apps. The WiFi will randomly fail requiring a hard reset. You can force an 18.7.1 update from AMD but cannot recover from sleep without reboot. It also runs HOT. I mean insanely hot. Borderline crash hot when you do anything GPU intensive. Save the time and money and get something else. The 8550u with an mx150 is better since it doesn’t suffer extreme driver issues.

Worst laptop I've had from HP in 10 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.AMD's Ryzen processors are seriously giving Intel a run for their money, so when I found this HP ENVY laptop (emphasis in ENVY because HP prides themselves in this being the MID range between Pavilion and Specter), that was using the amazing tech AMD is putting out, with a great design and color, I felt like a match made in heaven. Little did I know I was in for a headache of a product. First of all, if you read reviews, please, please, do not disregard the fact that clearly there's an issue with this model, and HP is doing NOTHING about it, neither they can apparently figure out how to fix it properly. The main issue is the same thing everyone else is saying, this thing has a HUGE Wi-Fi issue (Signal and connection is dropped nonstop even if you're not browsing the web/using apps), and it's not fixable with updates, AT ALL, which leads me to believe that somewhere along the production of this model, either something was overlooked with compatibility or quality, IF this is really only an issue with the Wireless Adapter, hopefully not the whole motherboard. Secondly, the second issue with this one, maybe or maybe not related to the hardware issues previously mentioned, aside the Wi-Fi issues, it was crashing (BSOD), since the first week after purchase, and being the computer savvy person I am and trusting HP, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ended up restoring the computer, maybe it was a corrupted OS, this happens all the time, IT WAS NOT, computer was restored twice and updated to the latest Windows 10 and HP drivers every single time, it kept crashing. I made the huge mistake of not returning it on time, so now I'm stuck with this beautifully crafted paperweight. Hopefully sending it out for repair under the Manufacturer warranty will actually help or get it fixed, but the awesome reputation HP had under my eyes is dinged forever. Do yourself a favor and if you want the ENVY line from HP, go with Intel, until they fix this issue or at least they acknowledge it and fix it (if possible), DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL.

REVIEW UPDATE!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Again, this is a fantastic laptop with a fan issue that I was able to fix by going to the HP website and downloading " Cool Sense" and turning that feature OFF. My fan no longer revs high. Last night it was kind of on overload and it only rev'd for about 5 seconds and turned back to idle. I barely even heard it. For myself, this was the solution I was looking for!

Awful Touch Pad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been looking for a laptop for months, and thought I found it. All of the stats are there on paper. Sadly, this computer was disappointing at best. Build quality is less than acceptable, where the case top and bottom join each other on the bottom edge it is very sharp. it just feels like it was thrown together without any concern for fit leaving a very sharp edge. Carrying this laptop is just painful. What really makes this laptop unusable is the touch pad. it may be the worst touch pad I have ever used. The software adjustments do little to help, if any. One minute it is so insensitive it will not even recognize any touches. The next minute every touch is super sensitive registering a left click no matter what you do. If you need a right click, forget it, it will not register a right click 1 out of 20 times. Both my wife and I were unable to navigate within a browser due to the awful touch pad. I gave it two stars because if you are not going to carry it and use an external mouse, it actually works fairly well. Additionally, placing it at a static point plugged in, will allow you to have a have a reasonable amount computing time as the battery only gives you about 3-4 hours just surfing the web. All-in-all, I cannot recommend this computer. If you got stuck with one past the return date, a mouse and plugged-in power will help. For me, I am returning mine. My quest continues for my new laptop.
