Mid level envy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No shock and awe with this laptop but for a mid level laptop it does a fantastic job. Build quality is solid with clean lines. The look and texture are great. Nice solid power cord as well with compact power supply, can't stand the bricks some manufactures are still making. With heavy use the fan gets very loud, not sure how the heat sinks look but maybe they need a larger one. It also gets hot on the lap. Runs well with Photoshop, Vegas etc. I am not a gamer but don't think this would be ideal for that anyway. HD movies run well with no lag or skipping. Screen isn't super bright and has plenty of LED bleed. Mouse pad seems fine but I prefer a Bluetooth mouse anyway. Back lit keyboard is clean and looks great. Rotating to tablet mode is a breeze, although no pen is provided my Surface pen worked just fine. The on board speakers sound pretty decent but I still opted for headphones while movie watching, basic tasks and media the speakers were fine for. Very nice for a laptop. The HDMI video port was great for running dual monitors while editing. Overall a great mid entry 2-1 that you wouldn't be wasting your money on. Go for it, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Solid Laptop for Under a Grand
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the Envy x360 2-in-1 for a few days now and here are my impressions: Pros: AMD Ryzen 2500u is very fast for a mobile processor in a mid-tier laptop Fullsize backlit keyboard with numberpad Excellent sound quality from the built in B&O speakers 8GB of Fast DDR4 RAM Upgradable - Memory and HDD can be upgraded. Large 15.6" Touch IPS Screen AMD Vega Graphics Solid Build Quality Good cooling capabilities Very little Bloatware Cons Ships with a slow spinning drive Heavy Screen is only 1920x1080 Mousepad offcenter I really like this laptop for what it is. It's not an expensive laptop but can actually hang with some more capable laptops due to the new Ryzen APU. This is actually one of the first laptops on the market with this new architecture. I am highly impressed with its performance, especially at this price. The verdict is still out on Vega for me. In some applications it performs well such as Civilization VI, but it is so new that sometimes an application will report an incompatibility. This will only get better as newer drivers are released and games are updated to work with the new Vega architecture. The only thing you can really knock this laptop on is its weight and spinning drive. It feels a little heavier than it should be but at the same time it is made of high quality solid materials...still I wish it was about a pound lighter. Any laptop with a spinning drive is already going to be at a disadvantage for performance. Surprisingly, I really didn't notice any real issues due to the spinning drive in general usage, but at the same time I have not loaded much on this laptop yet. I plan on replacing the spinning drive with an SSD at some point which should significantly speed up this laptop. The touchscreen functionality is a nice bonus but using this laptop in tablet mode can be impractical as it's large and heavy. I actually like using it in "tent mode" where I can watch a movie with the 1080p screen and B&O speakers that sound surprisingly well and can get very loud. Overall, this is a very capable laptop especially for this price.

Solid AMD performer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Envy X360 is a capable performer for work and entertainment. The AMD Ryzen 5 mobile CPU cranks at 2.0gHz with a 3.6gHz turbo mode for decent performance specs. The integrated GPU is the Radeon Vega Mobile which is great for on the road entertainment and should do well with light duty gaming. The 15.6” IPS touchscreen and the Bang & Olufsen speakers are a great combo for entertainment duty. The speakers are much better than those in gaming laptops costing much more. The case is aluminum or similar alloy type material and the styling is attractive, very professional looking. No flexing while using or converting to tablet mode. Very solid! I do see a little backlight bleeding around the edge of the bevel. Very tolerable but somewhat noticeable. The Bang & Olufsen software controls include an equalize and bass and treble boost sliders. The keyboard has a solid feel. Very responsive. It includes a full numeric keypad, multimedia controls, airplane mode, backlight, and screen brightness keys. The keyboard does have backlighting however it would have been nice to have one intermediate brightness setting. The trackpad is huge with no visible buttons and is smooth to the touch and sports two finger gesture recognition On the right side - power jack - volume control that is very tabletisque and intuitive (love this feature) - full size SD card slot - USB 3.1 (type C) and USB 3.0 ports On the left side - USB 3.0 - full sized HDMI port - headphone jack The laptop I got has 8gb of memory and a 1TB 7200RPM HDD (neither is user upgradeable but other configurations of memory and hard drive are available including SSD options}. I do question however how such a large and heavy (almost 5 lbs) laptop could be useful in tablet mode. Sure the 15.6” touchscreen is nice, but the weight almost eliminates the desire to use it in tablet mode. One thing that did bug me was an odd tick noise in sleep mode coming from left side of laptop, near power switch. Not sure what it is but sounds very much like an old wall clock ticking. The AMD processor helps bring the cost down to the sub-$700 range making it a great value for all the features. I would have given 4 1/2 stars with only 1/2 a star off for the ticking noise and backwash on the screen backlighting. I would have liked to have memory and SSD user upgrade-able. Everything else makes it a great buy.

Great Win10 Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Love this laptop. Blazing fast processor, touch screen has an excellent response and the wide screen makes viewing/work seems easy. It’s also light so it’s great for school or a professional. Just a great product.

All The Check Boxes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Personal preference, but I will never buy another laptop without a back-lit keyboard. Even though it is not in the item description, this has a back-lit keyboard. The keys have a fantastic feel to them and a comfortable spacing. The letters on the keys seem to be larger than on any other laptop I have owned. The AMD Ryzen is a fantastic processor. It outperforms my i7 with dedicated video card from last year easily. Even better, this laptop does not get hot. The build of the laptop is quite nice. The hinges are firm but not too firm. There is a lot of heft to this laptop. If you plan on carrying this all over town, you are going to need a chiropractor. :D The screen is quite comfortable to look at with good brightness and vivid colors. Battery life has been better than expected. Power options are the key. I have yet to find anything I dislike about this laptop. And I can play Rocket League without issue. I have seen a review stating Libre Office would not run on this laptop. Not sure of the issue they had, but it runs great for me. With this being a HP, make sure you search the interwebz for HP Keylogger. There is a dormant keylogger on most HP laptops that HP has a patch to clean it up and remove the logger. The laptop I received did not require the patch, but it doesn't hurt to check just in case. A fantastic laptop at a great price. Save a few dollars and get the AMD, maybe use the savings on a Windows Ink pen. I have not had a chance to try that out yet.

Versatile Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop for about a month and it's been great so far. Super simple to set up. I love the touch screen and how it converts to a "tablet". The screen does change orientation automatically when you fold it onto the key board or "tent" it. It has been great for web surfing, watching videos and playing games etc. I love the back lit keyboard. Battery life is good, 5-7 hours even with the screen brightness turned up. Downsides- the fan is louder than my 4 year old HP Pavilion laptop and it does get rather warm sitting on my lap. Otherwise a great machine for the price.

Nothing to be satisfied
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop was great at first... then started to regularly overheat and crash... then battery was getting weaker day by day to the point where I couldn't use it more than 1 hour after unplugging the charger... worst part is the processor getting burnt-out, paid $150 for replacement and since then it ever never the same...

Good Value and Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Nice design - Capable processor - Large number of ports - Trackpad works very well. Besides the Dell XPS laptops, this is the first Windows laptop I’ve used in a long time where I didn’t find the trackpad frustrating to use. - Supports Windows Hello login - Very nice 1080p screen, great touch performance - Minimal extra software installed - Value for performance, decent for mid-spec gaming Cons: - Body flex (moving the laptop while the fan is running caused a sound like the fan is hitting something) - The keyboard is easy to use, but there is some bowing in the material. I noticed this when the backlight is on - the keys IOPKL:” have no space for backlight to come through (the area between the keys can be pushed down to see light) - This is a large device and tablet mode is awkward (the laptop seems too big and heavy to be used as a tablet, but as a laptop is fine) - Battery life seems lower than average (about 4.5 hours) In this price range, this is a well performing laptop with a large and bright screen. If you are looking for something portable and had the budget, I would consider other options and maybe a 13” screen instead of a 15”. But I would recommend this because of the value and performance.

AMD All The Way Fast Great Display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does everything you need it too at this price range 700$ runs smooth with the new amd Ryzen processor and 3.6ghz boost when needed the display is great the build quality and feel is great also. Only thing I question a little is the battery life if your multitasking all the time and watching videos.

Love It!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first pc/tablet and I think it’s an all around great device with excellent performance. I was worried that the touch input wouldn’t be smooth, but there’s zero lag when doing anything, it’s as responsive as an iPad. I don’t do anything major that will really test the processor so I can’t speak on that, but for day to day use it has plenty of power for my needs. I did stream Cod WW2 from my xbox to it and it handled it with no problems, not sure if streaming like this has an affect on processing power or not. I’m a huge fan of Windows 10 for the most part, I think it’s clean and user friendly but wish they didn’t install all the unnecessary stuff, it’s easy to uninstall though. The hardware is solid and very well made, I believe the body is made out of aluminum or some type of metal. If I had one criticism it would be the track pad could be larger, but besides that I think it’s a great purchase even when not on sale. The hard drive is not a SSD so it doesn’t start up as quick as one with one but it’s not slow to startup, maybe 45 seconds. It has 2 usb, 1 usb c, 1 hdmi and 1 sd card reader. I’m a huge fan of HPs new direction with their computers, from the looks, materials, and build quality, I think they’re top notch.

Way better than it has any right to be, buuut....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SIMPLE - Runs nearly everything Ive thrown at it at 30~40+ fps & has great speakers and display PROS - * Gaming Potential for on the Go!!! * Speakers - seriously these are really good and really loud speakers. Very surprising and satisfying. * Display - Really really vibrant and easy on the eyes * Weight - Decent weight, not too bulky. The Full hinge design makes it easy to prop it and use it. * Has a full numkey pad! * Keyboard in general feels great to type on :D & has decent backlight! Honestly is a superb low to mid range gaming computer. So far nearly every game Ive thrown at it (some minor tweaking sometimes) has run fantastically using low to medium settings. For the cost, you get the bang for your buck and then some! But... there are issues that NEED to be considered before buying this. CONS - * Needs a SSD!!! - This will limit the computer immensely. Spend the extra 120~150 and get a Samsung SSD, your sanity will thank you for the performance. HDDs just cannot run an OS on Win10 computers these days. You can install it yourself with minimal effort, or pay the fee and have Geek Squad install it for. 110% worth the cost. * Graphics Driver (and support) }:< - So this is where the computer is still a MAJOR frustration point. 1) you CAN NOT run Chrome with Hardware Video decoding or the unit will green screen and lock up. This is due to HP & AMD not having updated the Graphics Driver since November. A lot of games you may have to have a trial and error period to figure out what settings give you the best performance. Dont fret though if it Green Screens, just reboot the sucker. * Theres no button (that Ive found yet?) for just turning off the Touchpad.... Overall there really isnt much I can say against this laptop except for the Driver Support by HP & AMD. The unit itself is superb for its price and performance, its just when those green screen errors hit they are very VERY annoying to deal with, but not over game breaking once you realize what's causing them. Worth the money, but has some issues. Its like having an 88 for a grade; it did really well, but not over the top~ Hope this helps!

Nice, But Needed Upgrades Out of the Box
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The CPU is very fast. I haven’t run a benchmark to review about as there are several already out there. With no programs open, I was able to reboot in 45 seconds. The battery life is nice. Watching videos, I can run close to three hours and recharging from 5% to 100% only takes about 90 minutes. The 15.6” screen is nice and I like the full numerical keypad. Now for the downsides… There is a white glow on the left side of the monitor when turned on. It’s not noticeable while running most apps but it’s quite irritating to know it’s there and it’s visible when gaming. This may be a defect in the laptop monitor??? The directional arrows are mashed together and take the place of three buttons vs. four. While this may be a personal preference, but I like four full-sized buttons. The most frustrating issue is the WiFi regularly dropping out. I need to restart the WiFi adapter to restore connectivity. I’ve researched and it appears the WiFi adapter may be failing. Not cool since it is very difficult to get to. Overall, it seems lagging. I purchased a 500GB SSD to see if that made a difference. While this did make a noticeable difference for me, a 7200rpm mechanical drive is perfectly acceptable in a mid/high-level laptop. I like this laptop, but think I’m going to stick with my old one for everyday use and utilize this as a multi-media unit. I give it 3/5 stars for the screen and needed upgrades. I would recommend to a friend but only to someone that buys a new laptop every 3-5 years to do basic things.

Great 2-in-1
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have only had this for a few days but it performs like my $1300 laptop. What I love about this computer the most is that the 1TB hard drive can store every piece of information I have with plent of room to spare. My wife loves to take tons of pictures on her phone and then edit and make scrapbooks on the computer and this makes it so easy vs. our older computers that didn't have near the space. I found this laptop starts up very fast and almost as fast as my solid state drive. The computer is very thin and the large screen makes it feel even thinner. Setup is a breeze with Windows 10, very similar to setting up a new smartphone. The screen is nice, backlit keyboard is awesome in the dark, and the tablet version is very nice for reading articles etc. I think the price point is perfect for this computer.

Some Positives Mostly Negatives
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Positives: Gorgeous looking machine easy upgrade-ability (M.2 slot and easy access RAM) Negatives: Even at maximum brightness the screen is still too dull for my liking. During use, the screen flickers seemingly randomly Battery has only lasted two hours just surfing the web after a full charge. Too overpriced to not have an SSD Overall, I would return the unit if I could but I already removed the stickers from the wrist pad so i'll just soldier on with it. The dull screen is really my main sticking point. I was excited for the IPS screen but wish it was brighter. The battery seems to be a common complaint so if you don't like playing computer roulette, choose a different machine.
