Great Laptop For The Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop - first off it walks you through initial setup with voice commands so you're setup and ready to use it in a couple of minutes. The touch screen display is beautiful and the keyboard layout includes a number keypad, which not all laptops have. The machine boots up quickly and is ready to go in what seems like just a few seconds, and the 8 gig memory and 1 tb hard drive are plenty for the average user. This laptop is a great value for it's price, I highly recommend it.

Excellent Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly, I just can't say enough: I seriously love this laptop. First, the Ryzen 5 core is extremely fast, which I appreciate when I'm getting work done: I fly through my tasks. Next, the AMD integrated graphics are beautiful - the resolution is impressive. I watch a lot of videos on it, and the experience is smoother than I've ever experienced. I had no idea what I was missing with other computers. Related, it's really nice that the (very durable) screen can flip so that while watching videos, the keyboard isn't front-and-center. Oh - and the audio is fantastic, too! Finally, the battery life is solid. Highly recommend it.

Great laptop... when you finally get it working.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can run most games on this laptop, however you need to do a few things first. For starters uninstall the HP bloatware. I would leave the programs related to running devices. Cool Sense and that 3D drive thing, and HP Jumpstart can go. You will need to update the display drivers through Device Manager. Find the Vega 8 display adapter, right click and click update. Search online which if I remember right is the top option. Then you should have a pretty stable laptop. If you had problems with running Doom 2016 since I have another computer and it saves settings on the cloud. You might have to put Steam in offline mode, delete the config and game save files and launch the game. This will run Doom like it has not been played on anything. Once you can get Doom to launch set the settings to low and go up from there. There, I saved you about a month of head aches. You are welcome.

First AMD Laptop: Decent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop less than a week ago and so far my experience is decent. I decided to get a Ryzen laptop due to their APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) which is their CPU compacted with Vega graphics which made me curious and since I have had bad experiences with Intel HD Graphics I decided to go for the Ryzen APU laptops. So far the first time setup is quick, but my first problem was when it restarted out of nowhere while doing homework (I only had 3 tabs open and nothing else running). So once I booted it up again, I disabled several apps upon startup to speed up the performance and the harddrive usage skyrocketed to 100% for a good 10mins or so, it eventually dropped so that was good. After a bad couple of days, things are getting better. Videos run good at 1080p, sound quality is fairly decent no problems or concerns on both departments. Now as an avid gamer, I am aware that this laptop is not meant for hardcore gaming, but if I want to play less demanding titles then it can handle it. I purely use the laptop for school and very light programming and it does its' job well there, and I only have one game installed (OSRS) and it runs perfectly. Overall, if you're looking for a laptop for gaming, I wouldn't recommend this. I have had a bad start with this laptop which left a bad impression on me because I am worried now that something may happen in the future. It's been a little under a week that I've had this laptop, there's still many features I have to discover but so far I am still optimistic about this laptop.

works well under Ubuntu BIonic Beaver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using vanilla Ubuntu/ Kubuntu, was only getting 800x600 resolution. With latest Bionic Beaver build, getting 1920x1080. Haven't yet got onboard wifi working, but not a huge priority as I have a Hakwing HWUN3 (supports AP mode) and an Edimax something or other (both USB). They have each worked out of the box with Linux over the last few years. No issues seen within Windows, although I only boot into it to run Windows Update and update antivirus definitions. Bought the laptop for Ryzen processor/ efficiency/ processing power per dollar and would have bought without Windows if that was a possibility. Haven't investigated touchscreen functionality within Linux as I don't really use that in Windows. When more Linux users are reviewing and posting how they got the touch screen to work, I may circle back to this.

Freezes, Runs Hot, Hinge Screen Case Split 7m old
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has been horrible from the first few weeks I had it. My husband bought it for me for Christmas. First thing I had the screen freezing up after some update. HP did fix it with the remote assistant. Similar issues with windows updates. Finally figured out how to turn them off because my laptop would malfunction after every update wasting tons of time with HP assistants that are slower than slow. From day one this thing runs extremely hot if you try to do more than check your email. Do not even try to play a game or it will be burning hot! Now 7 months later I noticed the left side of my screen splitting when I would try to open and close my laptop. This thing is supposed to go all the way around to use as a tablet. I have never even used it that way. Just opened and closed it. Never dropped, Never even took it out of the house. I am a senior so I am gentle with things. Upon closer examination it appears that the left hinge is loose and not quite aligned right. HP said send it back and they would rush the fix. They sent a box and paperwork that does not reflect what I was told. Nothing about the actual problem I was having or the rush and the free pick up I was supposed to get was not included. I was uncomfortable sending it back so I researched online and found that I am not alone with this hinge issue, and some people had been waiting weeks to get theirs back. The hinge issue is a common one because it runs so hot that it melts some flimsy plastic part that eventually melts and causes the hinge to fail. Of people that sent it back under warranty most were accused of dropping it and told it would cost them to fix it. Of the ones who paid for the fix it only lasted 3 months, so I decided to just chalk it up as a loss and taped the screen edges to reinforce it so it can not split open. I am just going to baby it along until I can go buy something else. Horrible experience. Will NEVER buy HP again!

GREAT LAPTOP
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop I love everything about it, although i do have to say it is KIND OF slow due to the HDD, I would spend the extra cash and get the upgraded one with the SSD! so for that, 4 stars! ALSO do not update your graphics drivers! The latest one is complete and utter garbage and it glitches your screen, so keep your default ones up til there is an update to this current one.

Great processor, awful drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Processor performance is strong for this form factor and category, but the drive is a HGST 7200 RPM unit that failed within 7 months. If you buy it for the clearance price, use the $150 savings to populate the onboard nVME slot with a good 2280 size SSD like the Samsung 970 evo or even a WD Black. I don’t fully regret the purchase but I’m not totally happy with it either. Buyer beware.

mine won't do windows updates
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It appears to be a great computer. Nicely packaged and good fast hardware. The backlit keyboard is pretty good too. Display is good. Good performance, though I haven't tried any games on it yet (I'm not really into benchmarks). I mainly got it for faster internet and personal use. That's where the problem is. When I tried to download updates for windows it downloads them and begins installing. It reaches 99% and that's it! It just stops. I have tried many times and let it run overnight most of the time and wake up to 99% every time. It just won't finish. No error codes or explanations, just 99% complete. I've tried several different methods but they all end the same way. NO updates installed. I contacted hp support and all they said was contact Microsoft. I have been with them twice and they just did the same things I had already tried which still didn't work. I have seen on the reviews that a few others have had similar problems. I haven't exhausted all possibilities yet but it shouldn't be this hard. I have several other laptops that update just fine. I don't know if I just got a bad one or if others may have similar problems. hp and Microsoft need to coordinate their stuff a little better IMO. Bottom line, I have gone back to using my older laptops for now. I will try a few more things to get it to work but in the meantime it's a great paperweight. Great hardware but without updates it's useless to me.

Great for college
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop over a year ago for college. Overall, it works really well. I haven’t had any issues with Microsoft office, or glitching issues... EXCEPT when I first bought it my screen would not turn, it would stick. After that, it got replaced that same day and haven’t had any issues since. It’s nice if you need lots of memory storage. I’m a tutor so I keep a lot of documents, tests, quizzes from previous classes I help my peers with.

HP Envy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have grown up with desktop PC's since I was born, so I knew what I was looking for and did my research before I purchased. Honestly I was very excited for this laptop as it was a huge upgrade from what I had previously, and the reviews were positive on this guy. I got this laptop for the large screen so I could draw and take notes for school. By the third time I used it, maybe three months into owning it, I started to notice that the touch screen was not working correctly, and the sensors started going bad. Not convenient to have a touch screen that you can't use. Let alone the battery life is garbage. It lasts maybe 3-5 hours, with minimal processes running and low brightness. I had to often charge it in between classes to make sure it wouldn't die while I was taking notes. Pretty disappointed that I coughed up the extra money for a "better" model laptop. It's possible that I just got a "bad system", but I probably wouldn't buy this again.

Great job AMD!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great overall laptop for the price. The integrated gpu/cpu structure is amazing. I only have a couple minor complaints. 2018 and we're using a spinning drive? C'mon HP... Thankfully it's easily upgradable to an ssd. Another is on the software end... HP needs to update these Vega drivers already. The ryzen/vega Is great but isn't being fully utilized by the software.

it's not bad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.having a Hp spectre to to Envy was a big change but this laptop support stylus pen easily & the spectre doesn't so also the reason why I choose the Hp x360 with AMD Ryzen 5 was that I wanted to test its power and yes indeed the laptop it's quite good and the reason I would I'm giving a good rate it is because of the price and its CPU and vega 8 graphic card! I have an Razer Blade 14″ Notebook ‑ Core i7 7700HQ 2.8 GHz which awesome but I kinda like AMD cards so I have tried so many gaming with AMD I like the graphic texture so I won't say more but I like this latop

Severe display light bleed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to admit, I was skeptical of touch screen laptops anyway. I went in to purchase the Lenovo 17.3", but this was on sale for $649 and they had an Open Box item for only $30 or so dollars more than the Lenovo and, on paper, this was a much nicer laptop. Got home and turned it on and immediately noticed on the black screen as it is booting, severe light bleed in the lower corners and at the top near the camera. No way I could trust this laptop to do my photo editing. It also booted much slower than my 3 yr old Dell Inspiron. Build quality *seemed* good, but how can this kind of defect go onto a shelf? It could be either Best Buy's fault for not making sure the open box was damaged or it could be HP quality control. After Googling "HP Envy light bleed", I can tell you it's probably HP's problem. Taking it back tomorrow and getting the Lenovo I should've bought.

average computer, worst battery life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Laptop does most basic functions well however the battery life is truly terrible. When using the computer I get around 2 -2.5hrs on a full charge. However when you put the computer into sleep mode instead of completely shutting it down and leave it over night with a full charge you will loose around 80% of your charge by the next day. This was after setting the battery on power saving mode. I've owned many HP computers for work and never had this issue before. This is the first time I've bought one for personal use.

Not the best for college students
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my freshman year of college, excited to be able to watch movies on Netflix/Hulu. I was also excited to try gaming on here as the screen can change angles and is also touch screen. However, if I tried to use this laptop for more than 4 hours at a time, it would automatically restart/ update, often when I would be working on assignments. I took it to tech help multiple times and each time their response was to reset it to factory settings. I’ve done that twice and while it did help at first, it still constantly does this! Not sure if it’s just my luck but it literally only happens when I’m working on an assignment and NEVER when I’m doing something unimportant. Also this laptop is HEAVY. When reading the product description and feeling the weight in person you think “oh that’s not that heavy”. But when you have to carry it in your bag and walk across campus in 100 degree weather.... it gets heavy. A while after purchasing I noticed a small crack in the display, but didn’t think much of it because of its size and it didn’t effect anything. This was also surprising to me because I kept this laptop in a case and the area the is was stored in my backpack had extra padding specifically to prevent this from happening. I figured I might just be a clumsy person and moved on. The next day the crack spread entirely to the left side of my laptop. The left side touch screen is now unresponsive and the entire screen glitches every 10 minutes, making it nearly useable. I can only use it at certain angles to avoid putting pressure on the cracks, causing it to glitch more. I took it in to get it fixed but because the screen is so special, it costs about the same to just buy a whole new laptop. I understand this is more of a user problem than a problem from the laptop itself, but I just thought it might be helpful to know. This laptop would be GREAT for light use or for a family laptop to use around the house. However, for a college student, this wouldn’t be my first choice.

2nd laptop in a week
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first laptop I got This past Thursday so exactly 8 days ago today... Looked beautiful setting up and feels sturdy enough, honestly I was pretty excited to finally get an upgrade after having my super reliable Toshiba for about 6 years (undergoing a spilled juice repair -_-) anyway... Within the first hour of having this laptop, I decided to try out watching a few videos on Youtube and netflix, was super laggy and glitchy especially when going to full screen, about 5 minutes in to watching something The entire screen froze and turned green and stayed that way a few minutes and then restarted. pretty unfortunate especially happening so quickly. However I tried to brush it off as a fluke and as it was restarting it went through some updates etc. well the next day as i was watching a video review of this laptop the whole thing froze in a glitchy way, like the sound was looping over and over loudy and the screen was broken up in lines and then it powered off and restarted. So I was done messing around and decided to wipe and exchange for another one. Im now on my second laptop, I have had this one since Monday and Im still just as unhappy.. Still glitchy and lags for so long, I cant even click from one window to the next or open a program without it taking a solid 30 seconds to a minute to load over. My husband is sitting here with his 8 year old toshiba next to me and its working lightyears faster.. for this price point im in awe that its so crappy. It runs like those really crappy 50 dollar off brand tablets you get and never use because its pointless. (maybe thats just me, haha) Everything Is just disappointing. Will be wiping this and returning later today and going with a different brand.
