A decent replacement for my 10 year old HP printer

My HP printer of 10 years recently died (it would have cost $150-$200 to fix) so I decided to invest in a new printer. After comparing brands and models, and looking at ink options, I opted for the Epson EcoTank ET-4850. I needed an all-in-one that did duplexing and this was at the right price point for me. It has been about a month since I purchased it and overall it has functioned well. It does seem to struggle with feeding paper at times, but I have only had one jam with a mailing label that was easily cleared. I do like the fact that there are no ink cartridges and you just fill up the ink wells as needed. The filling process is easy and neat. No messy spills. Overall the thickness of the plastic leaves a little to be desired. It feels more flimsy than my HP did. The footprint is smaller and the paper tray doesn't hold as much paper. I wish they would make these printers hold an entire ream of paper. This one takes about half a ream. The print quality for color images seems to be not as good as my HP, but that is not the primary purpose for me. I have yet to test printing on photo paper.

Bought this to replace an Epson Workforce 845 that served us well for several years. This ET-4850 has all the functions and added the supertank which I expect will save a lot of expense on ink.

I chose the Epson printer because it had the refillable ink wells. I was tired of my old printers running out of one color and requiring me to replace all the cartridges. The Epson printer has solved that problem. It is easy to set up and use. Plus it is idiot proof and you cannot fill the wells with the wrong color.

    Good Printing; Weak Network Function

This Epson prints well with reasonable speed and good color. Filling the ink tanks was easy, as claimed. I have it directly linked to a computer with printer USB-AB cable, all good. As far as home network, not satisfactory. It recognizes my network, but claims the signal is weak. However, two computers, two TV's, a phone, and previous HP printers disagree - all indicate 4 bars. What's worse, it frequently disconnects completely from the network. I have to turn it off and on to get it to reconnect and print any remote documents. If you want it to run off an in-home network, better keep it close to your router. If you don't care about this, it is otherwise quite satisfactory.

This printer has worked flawlessly since we got it. Easy to unpack, set up and do what we bought it for. Coming from a Brother printer that needed to update firmware, refused to update and wouldn’t print.

Like the printer. Setup wasn’t too bad. The touch screen a bit small but usable. Document feeder a little flimsy. Having some problems printing from my chrome book but think its a user issue, know it does work. Ink filling was easy. Believe it’s going to be a good home use printer.

Its pretty good overall but we really wanted the scanner to work and when hooked up just to WiFi it was disappointing. Luckily your Tech in the field, Cesar did a great job helping me with a cord so we could just hook it up to the router & use another epson scanner option on our computer that works with our new printer. Cesar saved the day for us.

Set up was easy. I sued the ethernet port to add it to my home network so we can print from my desktop, my wife's desktop, my laptop, and her Ipad. Print quality is above average although not as good as the HP4515 laser it replaced.

18 Months In - Love It

A year and a half ago, our old printer broke down. At the same time, we had a big print job we needed to do, hundreds of full-color pages for which the print shop was going to charge us something like $130. So we decided to invest in the Epson ET-4850. Yes, it's much more than a cartridge printer, but it would save us $130, right? Now, after all this time, I can't imagine ever going back to a cartridge printer with the constant worry about the cartridge running out. The ink tanks are still at least 2/3 full from my initial filling up, after what must be a couple thousand color pages. Scan and copy functions work great, too (scan to most recent computer is especially convenient). I really recommend this printer.

This was the most expensive printer they had in stock that uses refillable ink bottles. It was the only one they had in stock. Supply shortage i was told. Way more printer than i needed. It took quite some time to get it hooked up and printing. It works well enough but not fantastic.

This is a fairly good product. Most important feature is the refillable ink. Saves a ton of money! Only thing I did not like about it is that the tray for the printout needs to be extended to catch the paper, or else it’s all over the floor. Sometimes you forget to extend it or in my case there is a clearance issue.

Good home printer. Wish it copied 2 sided to 2 sided though. It at times has a hard time picking up the paper to be copied. Really like the print ink bottles for sure. The printer has good print quality as well. Not quite as fast as I would like though.

I am pleased with the functionality and very pleased with the Geek Squad set up assistance. It provides clear sharp prints and it works well as a scanner. It is slow though, and that is a slight drawback.

Only have the printer for three weeks. So far everything is working as planned. Simple easy and it’s good to know I’m not gonna have to keep buying Inc. every month or so. Can’t wait to see how it works out in all phases.

Excellent printer. Image quality is great for the price. Definitely satisfied with the purchase. It is also nice that it is quite compact and sits nicely on a desk or shelf without taking up too much room.

4.5 out of 5!!! So far so good with this printer. I docked it half a star because the SCREEN is tiny, making it difficult to see and touch with your fingers. Also, the Scan Software keeps saying I have to update it, and when I do, it says finished. It checks to see if I am up to date and the same Scan Software says I need to update it. Apart from that the Scan feature works, but it is a bit glitchy.

This is the best printer yet I’ve had an HP printer for about 8 years and the ink was too expensive had to start using cheap ink a ended up ruining the printer so I went with the Epson 4850 and I’m very impressed
