    BB1972 Outstanding quality I got this printer a little over a month ago and was impressed with it straight from the box. Un-packaging was simple and easy. Identifying all the components was easy. Then I added it to my network which was as easy. Just follow the instructions and then start printing. The print quality is very good for this price range printer. I would purchase this printer again. This is a review for the Epson Expression XP-4100 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Quality of Product

    We've always loved Epson so when our other one died, we bought this one. It's....ok. It prints well but sort of sounds clunky. We just got it so I don't know how well the ink will hold up, we'll see.

    I would have given it 5 stars if the printer ink wasn't so expensive. It's not just this printer, all printer ink is very expensive. But this one a little less than others. It does come with starter ink (not sure how long that will last). Also, instructions state to use ONLY genuine Epson ink. Apparently there is some type of chip on the refills that tell the printer if it's Epson or not. I searched online for a possible get around on that and did find a few suggestions. But I'm not very computer savvy and not sure if I could get generic ink to work. The generic ink for this model wasn't that much cheaper anyway. Print speed isn't the best, but I don't print a lot so it's fine for me. I'm not using it as wireless. I hooked up with USB to my computer without problems. It should use a 3.0 cable but the stores didn't have any and I didn't want to wait for delivery. The guy at the store said it should work with my old 2.0 but might be slower. It does work with the 2.0. I've only had it for a month so can't comment on longevity. I did purchase the Best Buy 3 year protection plan (with Geek Squad) for not a lot extra just in case.

    Easy to setup for wireless, prints flawlessly, even labels. Actually I mainly bought it to print Avery label sheets, and it beats any printer I've had.

    Ink Costs Ridiculous

    Do not buy the Epson Expression Home XP-4100 printer!! In fact I would avoid all Epson printers. I maintain three different printers for myself and two family members for years (Epson, HP and Cannon printers). I have never bought the printer genuine manufacturer printer ink, but instead buy compatible ink, because it is so much more reasonable. It has always worked fine. Recently, I had an issue with an Epson Expression Home XP-4100 printer I purchased at Best Buy. I changed the black ink with compatible ink cartridge like always, ran a test page and printed fine. I noticed there was a firmware update alert on the printer, so I applied it. After applying the firmware update, the compatible ink cartridges no longer work. Get message ‘Cannot recognize Ink Cartridge’. I contact Epson and they refuse to help unless you are using a genuine Epson print cartridge. I asked if I could back off the firmware update, no, not possible. I believe it was the firmware update that caused the cartridges to no longer be recognized. Epson does this to bleed more money out of you buying their ink, which this printer goes through like a thirsty camel. The HP and Cannon printers I maintain continue to accept non-manufacturer ink with no problem. I will never again buy an Epson printer. In doing some quick searching on internet, looks like this is something Epson has been doing, sending firmware updates that cancel ability to use non-Epson ink.

Other brands of ink cartridges and supplies are incompatible and may not function properly even if described as compatible. Please ensure you have installed genuine Epson cartridges.
