    I’ve used this printer maybe four times and all of a sudden it won’t power on. So frustrating, as I need a printer.

    I had the printer delivered to me. It did not work. I took it back and exchanged it for another identical printer. It did not work either.

    Practically Perfect Budget All-in-One

    Disclaimer: This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. As its somewhat cutesy name implies (‘small-in-one’), this printer’s major distinction is its compact form factor for a device that can print/scan/copy. While definitely smaller than most other all-in-ones, do know that because its scanning bed fits A4 items—which is certainly useful and almost imperative—it really isn’t extraordinarily small, only so in comparison to other printers. Nevertheless, every inch of desk space saved is an inch gained for something else and I will take this one's size over any other option. Because the printer needn’t be physically connected to a computer, mine sits rather inconspicuously on a small table outside of the home office. The device itself, it must be said, is well made and solid. My one quibble is with its control buttons—there is no touchscreen—which I think feel rather cheap. They work, however, and realizing this is a rather inexpensive printer, I happily accept them as they are. The setup of the printer is super easy as one can connect to their home network straight from the printer itself. On my Windows laptop, it was equally easy to add the device once I got it connected to the network. The automatic installation of drivers was quite the breeze and one needn't use a disc or even navigate to Epson's site. I further set the printer up via Google’s ‘cloud print’ service which allows one to print documents from anywhere. (If you have any troubles, refer to the printer's IP address that is listed on the print out after it gets connected.) This too was simple and allowed me to make prints from my phone which I had before never done. Whether by phone or laptop, my print jobs have been completed quickly and without any error. Copies and scans came out perfectly as well. While I haven’t yet had the occasion to replace any of the ink reserves, the process of doing so is easy enough, and this model allows you to replace specific colors (4) as needed rather than all or most at once. Overall, I have had precisely zero issues with the printer during my time with it and I will gladly continue using it moving forward. Printers, as we all well know, can be a fickle bunch so it’s nice to find one without problems. This fits the bill and I can recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, reliable, all-in-one device.
