Huge Features in a Small Package

This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I must say I was pleasantly surprised upon setting this printer up. It's a very small footprint, compact enough to sit on a desk without consuming space, but man does this little guy print. The quality is amazing, far outstripping my expensive Canon printer. It's fast, clear, crisp, and it's wonderful to be able to print wirelessly. I'd recommend it to any business owner that needs to be able to print their own high quality marketing materials.

    Basic printer

This is a basic printer but it does come with full pack of features. It doesn't take up a lot of footprint and low clearance on my table, but it can do scan, copy, full color print (cyan, yellow, blue, black), WiFi and Bluetooth (print from mobile devices are not an issue at all). It did quite a good job on printing photo but eating up the cartridges like a dinosaur though. Failed after 2 or so years. Customer service couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. They sent me a brand new copier, which was great, but that one didn’t last long either.

I had searched everywhere for the perfect wireless printer with low cost ink to print shipping labels and coupons. Best investment ever made!! Followed instructions and set up took about 10 minutes total (with wifi) and it was already printing direct from my phone. I can't wait to buy photo paper and try to print out pictures but I tried one on regular paper and it was very clear. This is perfect for college students or moms who print coupons like me. Highly recommend!!

This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I was pessimistic as to how well a $50 MFP would perform, but so far I've been very happily surprised! The packaging was very neat and minimalist, and I was unpacked and ready to go in minutes, and minutes was how long it took me to get it up and running on my WiFi, accessible from my laptops and smartphones! I've has and setup a couple of WiFi compatible printers/scanners, but none have been this easy and quick! The control panel was simple and easy to read, and performed pretty well, again for a $50 MFP. As with any low cost printer, the trade off is the when you have to purchase ink, it costs more than the printer so you have to decide if you want to keep what you have and spend a lot on ink, or just purchase a new printer. I'll see when I get to that point if I feel the ROI is justified for the cost of the ink. Short of the ink, it is a very nice, cheap but powerful little MFP!

Must have all cartridges to print in grayscale

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The most common thing I print is a return label on occasion which does not require any color. I printed some pictures recently so there are varying amounts of ink of the different colors and the printer will not print in grayscale if you are out of one of the colors...annoying. It told me I was out of the blue so I bought the blue and I printed one page and then it told me I was out of magenta. Now I have to wait for magenta to come before I can print a label to return something. I also saw many negative reviews about this printer(as a result of cartridge issues) on the reviews page for the cartridges that it takes and I wish some of those people had posted reviews for the actual printer because I wouldn’t have bought it

It would be a lot better if it help more paper but otherwise I would recommend it to someone if they asked me if I should buy one. I look forward to using it more!

    Very nice budget color printer

This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. First thing I noticed is that this is a very compact but well built printer. I have minor concerns about the hinges the flip up scanner lid is connected with, but I really think they are likely to be unwarranted. I was able to physically set up the printer within a few minutes of having it out of the box, so that was a big success in my book. Connecting the printer to my computer to print out a few test pages was also pretty easy. I chose a few pictures that I wanted to see how well they would look. For a (what I would consider) budget printer, the printing quality is pretty nice. Obviously, had I used photo paper they may end up slightly better, but this is an excellent option. Overall, between the ease of setup and use, I am very pleased with this printer and would happily recommend it to anyone.

A Really Good Printer/Scanner at a Great Price

Full disclosure: "This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review." This is from me: I am very picky about printers, and I beta tested this anticipating that I would not like it. Actually, I was quite surprised with it. As the title says, it's a really good printer and scanner at an amazing price. The black cartridge that came with the printer ran out pretty quickly, especially printing several text-heavy, contract documents. (I suspect none of the cartridges that come with the printer are not very full to begin with.) As with any inkjet, the replacement ink is pricey. XL black was $31 at Staples on sale. Set-up was a breeze, and once added to my wireless network, the entire family was printing to it from a variety of devices. It's very compact, and the only "smudge" I noticed was the very first test page--probably due to installing the first-time ink cartridges. Overall, it does a great job and prints fast. The scanner is easy to use--great. intuitive software, and color printing was very clear and clean. I can't comment on long-term wear and durability, but so far so good!

    Great Compact Printer

Upon receiving this printer, I was shocked at its compactness. I was so excited to exchange my massive HP printer with this efficient Epson one. Not only is it sleek and compact, but it also very quick both from my phone and my computer. Unlike my old printer, the colors printed from this one are vibrant and remain precise. However, I do have to express my concern regarding the cartridge sizes. They are extremely small and do not look like they will last nearly as long as I had hoped. Nevertheless, for its size and efficiency, it is an excellent printer that I am enjoying very much. “This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

    Simple to use compact printer

This is a review for the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. So, I finally received my new printer in the mail and I set it up immediately, which was a very simple task. Took about 2 minutes to set up the hardware.  I mainly use my printer for eBay labels and light photo printing. It didn't say it was a photo printer but most people were pleased with the quality. First impression is cheap. This thing felt flimsy and just all round cheap. I can't see this thing lasting very long. Set up was extremely easy and I was off and printing. It takes a long time to get going if it's been dormant for a while but once it starts it's fairly quick. As a black and white/color printer it's pretty basic. Quality is above average, and for basic printing and the price it's a steal. My previous hp was a photo printer so I'm used to high quality photo prints. I've been playing around with printing photos and since it's not a photo printer the quality isn't bad. I keep going back to the price, which makes this a slightly above average photo printer. I used multiple settings and multiple photo papers and the quality is definitely passable for hanging in a frame. Colors are fairly bland, without much pop. The big difference is this printer only has 4 cartridges instead of 5 like a "photo printer" once again, for the price it's definitely a decent printer. However, If I want lab quality photos it's worth it for me to go to Costco and not worry about using my ink.. what most people fail to recognize is the price point. You get what you pay for. Don't expect a sub $150 printer to print lab quality prints, and you'll be set. If you want a decent priced, small footprint printer you might want to give this one a shot. All in all, this printer is worth the 49.99$ that you have to fork over. It comes with most up to date features, my favorite being the wireless printing and being able to scan pictures straight to facebook. This is a compact printer so it doesnt take up a whole bunch of space on your desk or wherever you'd like to set it up. If your not looking for top-notch picture color, or if your main use is printing black and white text, this is definitely a great buy!

    Worst printer I've ever owned!

I got this printer because I wanted to go wireless. I can print from my iPad or iPhone to this printer but: *I have to do a printer reset every time I use it.. including putting in my password for the network. * The paper feed is so bad, I have had to re-feed the paper into the printer at a minimum of 12 times before it will go. AND EVERY TIME I'VE LOADED IT EXACTLY THE SAME WAY! * The scanner is worthless unless you connect it to the computer and no ethernet cables were included. You can only send it out to the cloud if you have a Google cloud account. Why can't it send picture information wirelessly if it can get information wirelessly? So sorry I bought this item and my nearest Best buy just closed and I have no idea where the receipt is... I actually thought it would work.

We've had this printer for over a week; initially it printed with a white line through every fifth line. We decided to continue to use it to see how it functioned. After the first day it began printing perfectly. We are impressed by the crisp printing, clear colors, and multitude of functions. We think this is an unbelievable bargain for the price. It's perfect for us--we are temporarily living away from our home state in a small place. We highly recommend the Epson XP440.

Easy to use. I love the print over wi-fi feature. It is loud and slow, but I expected that from such a cheap printer. The scanning feature is great. The one thing I HATE about many printers today is that you can't print in black and white if the color ink is low. It seems quite greedy of the manufacturers to get you to buy more of their ink cartridges.

Hi Katie, Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, preventing air bubbles from entering. Air bubbles can damage the print head. If we can help you with anything else, please contact Epson Support at (562) 276-4382; Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 8pm PT; Saturday, 7am – 4pm PT. Sincerely, Patrick – The Epson Team. Epson
