Do not purchase, pages always have broken lines...

Bought this printer a year ago. The setup was easy, but it never prints cleanly. Even taking off fast print option you always have broken lines. You clean the heads with the provided utilities and it never fixes the bad printing. After spending so much on replacing the ink month after month, decided to go back to Canon. First test page was perfect. I will never purchase epson ever again. This was a horrible printer and experience.

    Nozzle check nightmare

I bought this for a swap at Christmas and ended up bringing it home with me, looking to update my device. However, I still had ink in my brother printer so I hadn't setup the new printer until now. I HATE it and can't imagine I'm not outside the return window. I didn't have any trouble setting it up to connect to wifi or my computer but the first time I printed the color was streaky. I did a nozzle check which was poor so I tried the head cleaning. This made it a little better so stupid me, I thought cleaning it again would completely solve the problem. No, worse, and than completely black nozzle check. Not only that, having never had trouble with printers before I hadn't realized that cleaning the nozzle heads drained your ink so rapidly. So now not only do I now have a printer refusing to print in color, I also have lost half my ink. Sad.

    disappointed and annoyed

we don't print very often but need a printer for the random times we do, so the price on this was nice. However, even though i rarely use it, it seems to always say its low on ink. The 'ink level' feature to check how much is in the cartridge is off, it shows my black is half full on the screen but when i print, literally nothing shows up on the page. Also, every time i print anything, it pulls the paper down crooked. The wifi feature takes forever to actually find our network, if it does at all. have to manually search every time. Not happy with this printer.

    didn't last

After using the first ink cartridges, I then replaced them with the appropriate brand name cartridges. The printed page was unreadable. I went through the process of cleaning the heads and then aligned the heads as per the instructions. This process is much more involved and difficult than any of the numerous HP printers I have owned. The result was an improved printed page that I was able to use for my immediate concern but despite several attempts to properly align the printer, it continued to print with lines across the page. It would work ok if you print only in a very large font and do not care about the quality.

I bought this printer today. first of all the printer doesn't include USB connector if you're going to connect directly you have to buy it separately. second, I install everything ready to print a page and my MacBook wasn't connecting to printer and printer was giving me an error message "communication error" i checked the setting and I see printer status is offline. I tried to turn off the printer, rest my router do everything I still had issues. I call Epson customer service to spend 45 minutes to fix the issues I still have issues. I give up going back to best buy return this. I suggest you, do not buy this printer. first-time tried to use and is not connecting the wirless.

This is the worst printer I've ever purchased. PRO: The small size is nice, functions are fine--when they worked. CON: 1. Ink needed refilling continuously and cost $59/full refill, lasting for just a few color copies. 2. Printer won't print if any cartridge is low. Won't print. At all. 3. The printer demands firmware updates via internet, then doesn't function after the update. BOTTOM LINE: This hunk of junk is going to the electronics recycler.

Bought this print and after three month it stop printing. Contacted the customer support and all the did was give me the run around, telling me too do all kind of troubleshooting that just wasted the inks but didn’t resolved the issues. After a few other technical experiments and the same result the customer service technician concluded it was a manufacture failure. The support personnel the proceed too replace the printer with a refurbished replacement calming that it was work just like new. Told them no, they said that is all the can do for me. This printer is no good and the manufacture doesn’t honor their 1 year warranty. Won’t recommend this printer to anyone

Have you ever wanted a printer with more problems than your ex? This baby will keep you super busy during your down-time that your not printing by requiring constant firmware updates and connection issues. Do you enjoy living life on the edge? This printer only prints about 1/3 of the time you'll have it, so anytime you want to print something you're guaranteed a surprise! But don't just take my word for it, for only 49.99 this can be your very own mistake as well. Why spend $20 more on something that will last when you can cheap out on a necessity like this?

    DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER

I have had this printer for a year. I am currently on here purchasing a new printer because of the ink issues. Other than that it is a great printer, but when you have to get ink. It's a nightmare. I have to clean the inside all the time with a cloth to get the extra ink from the previous jobs off before I can print again or their will be lines. Not to mention, you can't change out one cartridge or it won't allow you to print at all. Somehow after doing all that and printing test pages, the ink levels are half the amount. I even bought something to clean the printer thinking the nozzle was clogged, and it still didn't work well. Do not buy this printer. Research all printers to be sure you won't have an issue like this. Well at least that's what I am doing.

Bought this printer and for awhile worked great. However, we don't print much at home and once it sat for a month or so, it has never worked right. I've replaced cartiridges, cleaned anything possible and it still has lines within the printed pages that makes 20% of the page unreadable. Now it won't even do that because it says it is jammed and there is nothing in it. I guess I received what I paid for it.

    INK IS HORRIBLE

It was a great printer in the beginning; however, in the end the ink was just horrible. Prices of the inks are too expensive. Black ink fades on Epson paper. See image. I have replaced all my inks and nothing has improved. The ink is gone way too fast and is costing me so much money to print my assignments for school.

This printer worked well through maybe one or two uses of cartridges. Then it was terrible. Even buying replacement ink didn't help. Why can't Epson make a simple to use printer that stands the test of time? A complete waste of money.

Epson forces you to purchase $50 in ink, even if you only need to print in black and white and just want to get the $13 black ink. Nope, the printer is unable to function if even one of the color cartridges is out. Its a total scam. Don't buy an Epson. You'll have better luck with an HP, which says a lot.

    Absolute garbage.

THE WORST PRINTER for occasional at home printing. It had so many good reviews I trusted it, but should have listed to the repeat complaint about the ink replacement. I think I successfully printed a few pages once after initial set up. Then tried printing a few months later & it said it was out of black ink. So I replaced the black ink. After “charging” the ink printer many times, it printed a couple more black & white pages. Then, a few weeks later, tried printing & it said I was out of color ink & would not print EVEN THOUGH I WAS TRING TO PRINT BLACK & WHITE. ALSO, the wireless printing function was incredredibly inconsistent with different devices & the hard wired printing never worked at all. I would’ve tried returning but I tossed the box & not sure where the receipt ended up. A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME & MONEY. Not to mention frustrating.

Epson hijacked my printer with software update

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Stay away from Epson. It won't work with aftermarket cartridges. Mine was working fine with aftermarket ink cartridges until I accidently updated to the latest firmware. It immediately made my current ink cartridges useless (which were working fine for months at a 1/3 of the cost) and made it inoperable all of the sudden unless I go out and spend $70 on genuine Epson brand cartridges. I called Epson technical support and asked how it was legal for them basically to hijack my printer without warning and lock up my printer until I bought their cartridges and they did nothing to resolve the issue. I've elected to throw away the printer and replace with an HP for less money than the cost of their $70 cartridges.

Hello Efromleaguecity, Epson periodically provides firmware updates to address issues of security, performance, minor bug fixes, and to ensure your printer functions as designed. Your XP-440 was designed to work only with genuine Epson ink cartridges, therefore some updates may affect the functionality of third-party ink. Non-Epson branded or altered Epson cartridges that functioned prior to a firmware update may not continue to function. If we can help with anything else, please reach out to our Epson Support Team at (562) 276-4382; Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 8pm PT; Saturday, 7am – 4pm PT.

Throw it in the trash when the ink runs out

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My biggest regret is wasting a dime on this printer once the initial ink batches ran out. It worked fine for a few months until the factory ink ran out. The color ink levels deplete ridiculously fast even when printing in greyscale. It gives false readings on the ink levels and requires color ink even to print in black and white. I am moderately tech savvy and a printer should not be something you have to troubleshoot after a few months. This is not a mistake, Epson designs these printers to be ink cash cows according to everything I can find online and that lines up with my experience completely. Product designed to be incompatible with off-brand ink. I will never buy an Epson printer again.

    Useless for printing shipping labels

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this because, yes, it was cheap, but also because of the glowing reviews. My previous all in one was a $300 HP that one day decided the printer head was lost, and that was that. Being that my printing work was mostly shipping labels from selling on ebay, I didn't care about fancy functions. I just needed a machine to print out an address and a bar code. This thing is AWFUL at doing that. Even with a nozzle check, head cleaning, and print head alignment, the print outs are horrible. There will be small gaps and misalignment in the print which makes the bar code unreadable for the post office's scanner. I don't know what these other people are printing that turns out so well for them, but it clearly isn't a little bit of black text and some straight lines. Tossing this in the recycle bin, too much hassle for what should be a simple print job.

    Poor Printer, Poor Customer Service

Bought this printer a couple of months ago and have had nothing but problems with it. In the first few weeks, there was a malfunction, so I contacted Epson, which took me an hour on the phone to achieve a resolution to my issue. Epson decided to send me another printer. So, I received another printer and unfortunately, this one also has malfunctioned. I will not waste another hour of my life trying to find a resolution to this issue. I don't recommend Epson customer service as the amount of time that you have to spend is just unreasonable. I wish I had purchased another Brother printer instead as customer service takes a shorter amount of time to deal with and there's no credit card authorization needed to send out another printer (if there is anything wrong in the first place).
