Awful printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this printer to find out during setup an error occurred. I researched the error to find out that the printer is broken internally and needs to be sent in for repair. I returned the printer for another of the same kind thinking that with all the great reviews that I had just been unlucky. After getting the second printer home, I didn’t even take off the plastic just in case it didn’t work. Plugged it in and again tried to go through set up and got the same error. Extremely disappointed that I can’t even select a language before an internal error occurs that must be remedied by sending it in for repair. No wonder these printers are on sale.

DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE, IT'S A TRAP!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The XP-440 is a dumpster fire of disappointment. #1 DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. It's not a security update or a functionality update, it's intended to prevent you from using third party ink, forcing you to buy EPSON ink. Beyond that, its just a crap printer. Print quality is sub-standard (yes, with EPSON ink), ink runs out way too fast, if you run out of any color ink it won't let you print in black only, it's just terrible. the scanning is fine, but everything else is pain and torment.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this product.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My issue with this printer: Each time I use it, I have to do "Nozzle Check, Head Cleaning, and Print Alignment" to get a decent print. If I don't, it comes out faded. I have never had to do so before with my other Epson or HP printers, even if I waited a month or so between prints. I don't recommend this model. I have only used Epson ink from the Epson site (not cheap), so I feel disappointed with the quality of the results I am getting.

Horrible printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.tried cleaning the print heads and many other different thing and the printer still print off color and actually is missing lines. i have owned older printers and i have never had issues like this before. Worst printer i have ever owned, it is stupid that i replaced the ink cartridges thinking that may have been another issue however its just the quality of the product. i would never recommend a printer like this to anyone. you shouldn't have issues like this at all in 2018. especially when i have had older printers that have lasted years and never had the same problems or any at all.

Like Epson / Do NOT like this printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the third Epson printer I have owned. I buy them because they make sense to me and *were* easy to use. This is the worst one I've owned, although this is the least expensive one I have owned. The paper never feeds correctly. It is difficult to download firmware updates (never needed by my earlier Epson printers). The ink cartridges are harder to load. It does not stay connected to wifi. I am replacing this printer for a more robust version with a fax option.

Sucks up ink
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think I must have gotten a printer with an issue. I rarely use the printer but after about 10 copies, it orders me more ink. I called the company and they were very nice. They sent me ink but I wasn't able to keep track of it once I put in their replacement. I've spent more money on ink than I did on the original purchase of this printer 9 months ago. I'll be purchasing a new one at this point.

I want my $100 back
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer has been nothing but garbage. I bought it because the ratings are so good, but since day one, we’ve had issues with it. Just like many other reviews are stating, you have to constantly perform “head cleaning” maintenance for anything to print, and after that it still isn’t great. I often have to perform 4-5 head cleanings for it to work. It prints blank unless you perform multiple head cleanings. I’m tired of having a printer that doesn’t print. Beware; don’t buy this product

Worst purchase ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You get what you pay for. This printer lasted as long as I had a warranty, after a year it went dead. Internal mainboard in the printer has faulted, and since I had it for a year and 3 month manufacturer wasn't under obligation to replace it. When I called Epson I've been told that is common flow for those printers. It is also uses to much ink that costs more than 60% of the printer price. Let's just say I will not buy Epson products ever again.

If it seems too good to be true ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm so upset that I spent money on this printer. I am on a very fixed income, so I researched it thoroughly and finally splurged. It worked okay ... until I did the update. It will not recognize my cartridges at all. They are Epson cartridges and I can't even get the error message to go away. I have tried everything I know how to do and have had several people look at it. I've spent almost $100 on new cartridges. I've got maybe 50 prints out of this printer. I wish I never bought it.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer rarely prints well for us. The wireless part works well, but after buying new ink 3 times and print quality doesn't change.

Firmware Update
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer was working until I installed a firmware upgrade. Now it won't print unless I replace the ink cartridges with Epson cartridges. I have a working printer and good ink cartridges, but can't print. ONLY because Epson's firmware is preventing printing. Do not buy this or ANY Epson product. If anyone knows of a class action suit, I would be interested in joining it.

Terrible printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you plan to print more than once don't buy this printer. You have to completely reconnect and change your settings every single time you want to print. I owned it for less than a month before it stopped putting out ink on top of taking 30 minutes to connect and print every single time. Only was able to print around 10 pages before it stopped working and I threw it off my deck.

Epson Printers are junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had 2 of these XP printers. A 420, and now a 446. They both stopped printing black. The 420 quit sometime during the second ink cart, the 446 halfway through the first. Other colors print fine. I literally got less than 10 sheets out of the 446. I’ve gone through all nozzle cleaning/head alignment crap to no avail. These printers are junk.

Not a reliable product.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not a reliable product. Ink gets used up very fast after a few prints. Doesn't allow to take black and white prints if the color ink is low. What is the use of the black ink if color ink is required even for black and white printing. Will leave you stranded in an urgent printing situation.

Posted .Hi, Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when you are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged, preventing air bubbles from entering. Air bubbles can damage the print head. If we can help you with anything else, please contact Epson Support at (562) 276-4382; Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 8pm PT; Saturday, 7am – 4pm PT. Sincerely, Marina – The Epson Team.

CHOOSE A DIFFERENT PRINTER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer has been an absolute piece of trash. As soon as one color cartridge is low you're completely unable to print. It also seems to get clogged if you go a day without printing. Now that the printer is unable to recognize ink cartridges I suppose it's time to move on and get anything other than an Epson.

warning on software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great printer..except: If you allow software(firmware) update by inadvertently clicking on updates, you will most likely lockup your printer with "unable to recognize cartridge"...you will never be able to unlock printer, never. Search Web to verify. You will need to buy a new printer...hopefully not another Epson.
