    Great Picture Scanner

I own a local computer repair shop. while at one of my clients houses she started telling me about all these old pictures she need to make digital of her family for an up coming reunion. I had just gotten the new Epson Fastfoto Ff-640 free for my review, so I told her I would. She had around 400 pictures. Some dated back to 1908. The Epson Fastfoto was perfect for the job. The set up was simple, and straight forward. I do not like bogging my computers down with software so I first just ran the driver and nothing else. The scanner worked, but I still had to go in, and add information, and log the photos. I stopped after about 50 and installed the actual software and that was the ticket. I was now able to name, the photos as I scanned them, and put them into their respective folders. The Quality of the reproductions was outstanding. Now realize some of these photos, and news paper clippings where over a hundred years old. The Epson Fastfoto made them look pretty darn good. The old pictures were black, and white, and faded. The scanner took out the yellowing and enhanced the black and white portions on the picture, and made them pop. I was really shocked by the results. It did the same for the color. Everything was bright and vivid. I do recommend if you do not see the results on screen it may be because of the led screen you are using. I used the machine at work on a cheaper monitor and the color looked washed. I then did the same picture at home on my design rig, and the color was perfect. She also wanted me to send the photos to here son, who would be using the pics for the slide show. The added software made it really easy to send the photos straight to the drop Box folder I had set up. This product works better than expected. My client was thrilled to death, and I am sold on this Epson scanner.

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. After having the Epson scanner setup for a couple of weeks I am blown away by how fast it is. When it calls itself Fasfoto it is not joking. The scanner goes through stacks of pictures faster then you can load them. I used it to process a batch of old photos that I have been meaning to scan for my mom. The group of old family photos was done before I knew it, and with image processing options like red eye removal done during the scanning I know I saved myself a few hours over my old flatbed multi-function printer scanner. This scanner also scans documents and receipts just as quickly and easily as photos. The auto feeder handled a good sized stack of paperwork and fed thin receipts through individually without jamming or grabbing multiple pages. I am really glad I was able to test this product and will continue using it for all my scanning needs for the foreseeable future.

I received a free sample of this FastFoto Scanner just in the nick of time because my other scanner died. I scanned many pictures and documents. It is amazingly fast....I have never seen a scanner work so quickly. The pictures and documents came out beautifully. After scanning the software for editing opens right up so you can tweak your pictures and images. This is a great scanner for pictures and documents....I love it....

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Let me start out by saying I was surprise how small the Box was when I received the Product. I couldn't believe that this scanner was as small as it was. I had the scanner hooked up to my computer and was able to scan photos in a matter of mins. Very easy setup. Second, this is an amazingly fast scanner. I was able to take my old photo collection and digitize it in a matter on minutes rather than hours. Just being able to push the blue button on the scanner and have the software load and reading to scan makes it very easy to get started. Photos came out nice. Third, this scanner is amazing for photos however I thought I would mention that this scanner is great for documents as well. I have a sheet fed scanner that is able to scan documents both front and back. However I have made the switch to using the Epson FastFoto as my document scanner as it is able to scan both the front and the back of the pages at the same time. It is awesome. My other scanner would scan the front than feed it back through to scan the back than feed it back through to spit it out. This FastFoto Scanner scans both the back and front and the same time and is super fast. So far this has been a great product and I would highly recommend even if you don't have photos it is still a great document scanner also.

    Fast and trouble-free

First of all, this thing is fast. Much faster than any flatbed scanner I’ve used, even with a sheet feeder. The scanning is quick and the USB interface is fast enough to get the data to the PC and the drive quick enough to be ready for the next photo. This will scan photos as fast as you can feed them. For me, this was important, as I have dozens of shoeboxes from 2 generations of photographs to get through. There’s no compromise on quality, either. There was a bit of adjustment for different photo types (e.g. sepia, color, b&w), but once adjusted for a particular type, it was full speed ahead. There’s a sleeve for fragile photos that worked a charm in getting them scanned without artefacts. It can scan BOTH sides of the photo in one pass, so it works to pick up the notes on names, dates, events that go along with each photo, without mix-ups. I’d recommend this to any family archivist or anyone with an intimidating pile of photos to scan. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

    Awesome Product!

Put to the Test I have tons of 4x6’s, a good bunch of 3.5x5’s, some old 3x3 deckle edge cuts (1950’s), and other odd sizes. I bravely tried some 5x7’s and even 8x10’s (the latter being on double weight matte), and even some panorama prints! Note: The scanner brought the full panorama print through and gave me a full scan of the image—very impressive. These all went through quickly and easily. For fragile images (torn, very thin paper) Epson supplies an acetate sleeve to protect them through the scanner, although I tried a thin (A surface) print and it went through the smooth scanning rollers with no problem, but the sleeve is probably the best bet. The only caveat is that Epson does not recommend scanning Polaroid prints: they say they are too thick and could damage the print or, worse, the scanner. Save those for flatbeds. In all, I was very pleased with the Epson FastFoto FF-640 scanner. It did all I expected and more, and made fast work of those scans I put off to another day. It can even do a scan on the back of the print simultaneously, which can record back-printed dates (something available on many snaps printed on wholesale and even minilab machines) or notes about who might be in the photo). “This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

Extremely fast photo scan - great for digitizing!

If you're reading these reviews, I know that it's a little daunting when you see that every single review in here has the same verbiage - This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. The same is true in my case. I did receive the unit free of charge to test. But truth be told, we are asked to post an unbiased review of the results of our testing. If the product really did suck, I would 100% certainly write the review as such. Our reviews are meant to be *unbiased* and for that reason, here is my unbiased review: Originally I didn't understand why a photo scanner would be priced like this Epson FastFoto is priced. $650 seems EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE for a simple photo scanner. But that's where I was wrong: It's not your average photo scanner - it's extremely fast and the quality does not diminish due to scan speed. But what I really like about this scanner is the versatility it has with scanning pretty much anything. You can scan anything on paper -- photos, letters, receipts, etc. I had my Homeowners Association bylaws and was able to scan the whole book in about a minute thanks to how fast this sucker is. Truly, the only negative flaw that I found with the scanner wasn't truly the scanners fault, but maybe Epson could come up with something to fix it. The problem that I had was in scanning very old photos that were in photo albums. The back of the photos had a sticky residue from being in the album all these years and as a result when I would try to scan a stack of photos the scanner would grab multiple photos at once and scan them all as if they were one. I'm sure if I google search I'll be able to find a way to safely remove the adhesive, but it'd be great if Epson had a way to counteract this from happening. No clue how, but it would be nice. I deducted one star due to this because it's a pain to have to scan each photo individually because of the photos sticking together. Otherwise this is definitely a must-have scanner for someone who does a lot of scanning of documents or photos. Both sets of parents have a ton of photos in boxes and all over and this winter I'm planning on digitizing all that I can. One last thing - very cool feature -- the scanner will automatically upload the photos to my Dropbox account. So not only are they digitized, but they're also safely backed up in the cloud automatically! Now that's cool!!! As stated in the first paragraph, This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Great way to get photos out of the box

Like many of us, I have boxes of photos from before the days of digital photos. Some are ones I have taken, and others are photos my mother gave to me when my parents downsized homes. All these precious family memories, in a box on the shelf. But now this wonderful photo scanner is here. Gone are the days of placing photos one at a time on the flat bed screen to digitize. This high quality, high speed scanner allows me to load a whole stack ( usually an envelope) of photos in the top and they are quickly fed through and scanned. The transfer process is super quick too- the photos are all added to a folder which I name, and are immediately available to share or just store. It cannot be easier. If you are putting off dealing with all those old but precious family photos, this new scanner makes the process easy!! Lightning fast, works great with Macs

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I am a Mac user, so I am always a bit skeptical when I shop for a product to use with my computer. I want to be sure that the vendor supports macOS well. Good news: the FastFoto 640 comes with excellent Epson Mac software and the scanner supports the native macOS scanning functionality. The scanning is lightning fast, like everyone else has said. The software is very, very good. It feels like it was designed for macOS. There is even a separate app that supports OCR, for scanning documents. The scanned output is very high quality, no distortion of quality loss as is typical of lower end scanners. Even better is that the high-quality output is combined with the fast speed. This isn't one of those scanners that advertises fast scans and high quality output, but really means that you can get a good scan if you are willing to wait 2 minutes per picture. This is the real deal. I strongly recommend this scanner. It's the real deal, it works great with my computing platform of choice!

    This Scanner Rocks!

This scanner rocks! When I got it, I was exited about the potential of scanning images from old photo albums, and having digital copies. My first scan project was to take about 500 images out of an old album and scan them all, and then put the images back. The scanner did an amazing, nd quick job! The longest part of the whole project was removing the images from the album! It is so awesome to have all of those pictures on my computer now! The only problem with the scanner, is that it can't hold that many in the tray at once. They have however, solved this problem in the software, by adding the capability to create more scans in the same project. This makes it easy to keep scanning quickly, while keeping the same naming of the scans. I would most definitely recommend this scanner to a friend. My old pictures mean so much to me and it would be devastating if they ever got destroyed in any way. Now I will have a backup. An absolute must for large photo collections

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First off, if you are only scanning a few photos, say under 100, a flat bed scanner is probably a better choice--less chance of damaging a photo and better quality scans. If you have to scan a large collection of photographs then absolutely 100% you want this scanner if you can afford it. the software could be tweaked a bit to be better, but it's still pretty darn good at the task of scanning large collections. It does a decent job of basic restoration of old and badly exposed photos. Certainly you could do better if you personally went over each photo individually, but if you have a large collection that could literally take years; this takes seconds. Photos scan as published at about 1 per second if loaded in batches at 300 dpi, 1 per 2 seconds at 600 dpi. The manual says 3x5 to 8x10 for photo size, mine handles 2x2 up to full page size just fine.

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I love this scanner so much. As a photographer, I have so many pictures around my house. I had thousands laying around in boxes. With this scanner, I was able to digitalize all my photos. It has been a life saver. Although it is pricey, it is worth it. Now, I do not have to worry about my printed photos getting destroyed. You should note that although the scanner is quick, if you choose to use the red-eye reduction or other included features, it will take longer for the pictures to save. Also, you have to separate the photos buy size and make sure that the pictures are not sticking together. I really love this scanner and I am so happy that I finally digitalized all my photos.

Fast, Well made and small footprint

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Right out of the box this machine was smaller than I expected yet it is very sturdy. Although it can hold large size photo's the footprint of the machine is very small. The only exception is the output tray which does extend out and kind of upwards. This tray takes up a bit more room but I learned very quickly that you do want the tray fully extended when you are scanning photo's (think of a catchers mitt). I have been a fan of Epson printers and have had one for the past several years with no issues (Artisian), and have been extremely happy with the printer. So, I was greatly excited that Epson has produced such a great and time saving photo scanner. It was easy to unpack and set up on a side table I have in my craft room. It was important to follow the set up instructions as you need to download the software before you connect it to your computer. Once downloaded and connected it is pretty simple to use. The scanner started right up and my 2nd surprise was after putting a stack of 15 4x6" photos and selecting the scan function from the software; it went to work. I mean it scanned the stack of photos so fast that they shot out because I didn't realize I had to fully extend the exit tray. Quick lesson learned. The scanner scanned those photos so fast and I was immediate gratification and they idea that the giant box of family photos I haven't been able to share could now be scanned so easily. I'm kind of the novice photographer and I always share photos I've taken with family and friends. However, that can take a lot of time. Well, not anymore. The first set of photo's I scanned I was immediately able to upload and share on facebook. The older photo's from the 1970's that I scanned all had an orange hue to them. After scanning the software auto corrected the photos and they really looked amazing. Not as good as maybe the best photo shop features but pretty darn good considering they scanned in seconds. The older photo's really did get restored to a much better quality. Note, it can not improve the amount of pixels in older photo's so they may not be as clear (due to older cameras having lower MegaPixels) but compared to the original; much improved. If you have ever tried scanning older photos 1 at a time, you know how time consuming it is. This will cut the time down by like 75%. Keep in mind the photo's that you stack (you can scan 30 at one time) have to be the same size. If different sizes you should scan seperately and their are carriage sheets included to scan those fragile photo's. My plan is to gather all my like size photo's (out of my BOX 'O PHOTOS) and get to work on scanning them all in. I am also seriously thinking of buying a 6TB external hard drive because I have a lot of photo's. This product gets two thumbs up from me and a genuine gasp of excitement for a product I have been waiting years for!

    Blazing fast

First: This scanner is incredibly fast! I accidentally forgot to expand the catch tray, and before I knew it, my floor was full of old prints! Physical setup was simple if you've ever purchased a printer or other similar device. Software went well on Windows 7 and 10. My only recommendation: The software is a download. Make sure you get a copy and put it somewhere safe. I never trust a manufacturer to provide drivers for the future. The scanner handled mixed sized originals quite well - even a few that had post-it notes on the back (which it scanned). I had the odd jam with photos that were hard to separate - but opening the front of the unit and re-feeding is painless. Compared to a flatbed scanner I'm still so far ahead timewise. In 90% of the photos I tested, I would keep the 'enhanced' version the scanner generated. The other 10% were simply new prints that didn't need it. I've tried images as old as 1930! However, this is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Take that as you will. The problem I see is before long, I won't need the unit - once everything is scanned, that is. It's going to put itself out of business.

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Got this scanner as part of a beta and decided to test it out by digitizing one of my mothers old photo albums. Photos were older (40 years+) and I was concerned about damaging the originals so only tried a couple of single photos first. The scanner is good at handling the photos gently and after a few tries I put a whole stack of photos on it and went to town. It probably took me longer to get all the photos out and back in the album than it did to scan them all as its very quick. If you have a lot of old photos or scan photos on a daily / weekly basis I can see how this unit would provide good value.

This is a review for the Epson FastFoto 640 that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Works well. Quite fast at scanning photos, does a great job on regular scans as well. One small quirk is that trying scan a photo with it oriented in landscape mode resulted in ugly lines coming through on the scans. I tried cleaning the scanner's glass bars even though I had just started scanning with it, and I couldn't see how they would be dirty. No luck, but then I simply fed the photo in oriented as a portrait, and it worked fine with no lines. Weird. But overall, very handy for scanning stacks of photos or papers. Useful!
