Easy to set up and scan pictures. Improved color and clarity of pictures taken as far back as 1920's. A plus that it was on sale.

Great scanner - easy to use and the quality of the photos is excellent. Great deal for the price, Makes it easy to scan and keep memorable photos. Wish it would do negatives and slides too.

I have scanned over a thousand pages and over a thousand photos. I wish I had purchased it sooner. Double sided scan works great and any jams caused by staples left in document are easy to clear.

It scans and will auto correct a wide variety of black and white and color prints. Its nice to get rid of boxes and boxes of photos and store them electronically. Also fixes the old faded photos.

This prints using different levels of dpi which matches different speeds. I love it! The only negative is that it is limited in the thickness of paper it accepts, but I would buy it all over again.

Like you, I had high hopes of getting organized and decided to spring for this expensive machine. Looks fast and easy, right? Wrong. First off, it's nightmare to set up, and then it keeps losing the connection to the computer, even though my wifi is strong- and even though I connected it with the USB cable! Quality: WHEN it works (see below), it does a nice job- even very nice- on newer photos (and by that, I mean not more than 20 years old). On my older photos, I can get a much better copy by simply taking a photo of the photo with my cell phone. Speed: Very fast- WHEN it works, but literally every 3rd photo will cause the machine to jam (and there is nothing wrong with the photos, except slight curvature, which is normal) On DOCUMENTS it works much better, but then there's the problem below... Software: Where do I start? In the "fastfoto" software (there's another portion of the software for documents- very confusing) You can't name your files as you want to- you have to use their format. Editing is limited to basically crop and rotate. You cannot even straighten. And you can't even "delete" from the main edit screen, which is annoying. No ability to rename a single photo, or to make notes (such as "Grandma Mary" or whatever) so that a future viewer might know who is in the photo). AND BEWARE: The "ScanSmart" portion of the software does NOT save a copy of your scans locally like the fastfoto function does, and it does NOT tell you that if your computer goes to sleep while you're in the middle of a project, you will LOSE all of your work. I spent an entire day scanning and editing 150 pages of a 300 page project (these were newspaper articles- each one of which had to be removed from the plastic sleeve I had it stored in and placed individually into the "carrier" sheet that came with the unit. A LOT of work). After working all day on this project, I went to sleep, planning to complete it the next day. Imagine my horror when I opened my computer the following day and found that ALL of my work had DISAPPEARED. I called "customer service" and after literally two hours of very annoying interaction during which I was handed off to 7 different agents, I discovered that unlike the fastfoto portion of the software, "scansmart" does not automatically save a local copy, and In order to "save", you're apparently supposed to click "NEXT" (not "save", which would be intuitive). I did NOT click "next" (why would I, since I was in the middle of the project and intended to continue the following day?) Little did I realize that once I left, I would lose all of that work forever. There was NO prompt at all except the 'next' button. If it's not going to save a local copy, the software should NOTIFY you of such upfront and require that you select how you would like your work to be saved BEFORE you do it. (I understand that usually when writing a document in some other application, you would save it afterwards, but in this case it is confusing b/c one could assume- as I did- after using the "fastfoto" software and seeing that local copies are kept on your computer that the document scanner would do the same thing) CUSTOMER SERVICE was a huge disappointment, too. As noted, it took me 2 hours to get someone who could help. Of the 7 reps that I spoke with, ONE of them was kind and empathetic. Epson should have done a LOT more beta testing with real humans before releasing this product. Really disappointing, especially from a brand whose products I have enjoyed in the past. In short, please save yourself the money, time and aggravation.

Scanner Pauses For Long Time At Higher DPI Setting

Great design...but expensive and pauses for long durations when scanning. It runs much slower when scanning at higher dpi settings. The pausing is the worse part about it. Paused on me for approx 3 minutes a few times. Tried it on different computers, both pc and mac....same thing....pausing at higher dpi setting. Also make sure you change settings depending what kind of picture you're scanning (eg. polaroid, standard). Found it to be very sensitive to those settings as well.

This has been excellent for scanning a large number of older photos. The quality is good, and it automatically enhances the photos. It doesnt upload directly to iphoto, so i do that from Windows explorer instead. It does allow for a year and month input that works with iphoto, and you can lable as well. Really liking it.

Fantastic scanner for photos and documents. This is insanely quick and works fabulously for large volumes of photos. It senses when there is writing on the back of photos and uploads it automatically. Very nice!

I would give it 5 stars but it takes a while in between batches to upload, even the smallest batches. So basically, it can be time consuming when scanning lots of photos. Also Polaroids are too thick to scan so not all pics are able to be scanned.
