Baisc Scanner-High Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was tasked with testing this scanner. I personally own a multi-printer that is not an Epson. Due to problems with Epson products in the past I have switched to another brand. I scanned a photo and a post card with the FastFoto and my personal printer. I will include the images.** Here are the pro and cons of the FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-speed Photo and Document Scanning System. As I stated this is my personal opinion after using the product several times. Con-product was difficult to set up. The instructions are not clear and it was very difficult trying to get it to scan via the scanner buttons. Using the program on the PC was the best(only) way. Pro- the pictures are clear and vivid in color. Con-Product has constant updates often requiring your PC to restart. Con- Can only scan one item at a time. Con-Product is small but very heavy. Unnecessarily so in my opinion. Con- it does not print photos. I know it is a scanner, but every other scanner I have had including a photo scanner, printed as well. Con- the price! My multi-printer may have a bit less clarity and color but I only paid $40 for it and it prints very nice photos. Very lightweight too. Pro/Con-It does print dual-sided. As does most printers/scanners.

Fast but poor photo quality
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this unit Feb 2025, billed as a fast photo scanner. It is fast, it can scan both side of photo and paper. But as as a photo scanner it is terrible. It feeds thru well but the quality of the scan is only fair at best. Its not worth the price. I'm sorry I bought it.

DON'T BUY ANY EPSON PRODUCTS
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy anything from Epson. Their product support is horrible. This scanner actually does a number of things well; if, however you need to edit a document you have scanned, there is a defect in the software and the entire system crashes. It is impossible to contact Epson to tell them: If you call the number on their website (562-276-1300) there are voice prompts that lead you to a "scanner" tech; BUT they immediately tell you that you have called the wrong number and direct you to 562-276-4394. If you call this number, the voice prompts are only relating to camers and other digital products NOT scanners. In other words, Epson has provided defective software and then made it almost impossible to tell them you have a problem. DON'T BUY IT.

Incessant WiFi problems
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it connects, it's great. It just won't stay connected over wi-fi, and it's not at all clear why. I currently have it sitting 3 feet away from my wifi router.

Scanner is nice but software OWNS your photos
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is so awkward, and of course something you only find out about after you purchase this. I would NOT RECOMMEND this scanner. It works nicely, connects easily, and scans quickly. BUT once scanned, the photo that was scanned is NOT really yours. you HAVE NO permission to change it, edit it, or do anything with it. There are multiple forums that discuss this, try and provide ways around it but in the end, when you scan hundreds or thousands of photos having to right-click on each one, change the permissions one by one, then save as a different name at that moment in a different folder is about the MOST ANNOYING thing ever. EPSON IS TRASH because they won't admit it's an issue, won't fix it and until then I would say STAY AWAY FROM EPSON.

SAVE YOUR $ and SANITY
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like you, I had high hopes of getting organized and decided to spring for this expensive machine. Looks fast and easy, right? Wrong. First off, it's nightmare to set up, and then it keeps losing the connection to the computer, even though my wifi is strong- and even though I connected it with the USB cable! Quality: WHEN it works (see below), it does a nice job- even very nice- on newer photos (and by that, I mean not more than 20 years old). On my older photos, I can get a much better copy by simply taking a photo of the photo with my cell phone. Speed: Very fast- WHEN it works, but literally every 3rd photo will cause the machine to jam (and there is nothing wrong with the photos, except slight curvature, which is normal) On DOCUMENTS it works much better, but then there's the problem below... Software: Where do I start? In the "fastfoto" software (there's another portion of the software for documents- very confusing) You can't name your files as you want to- you have to use their format. Editing is limited to basically crop and rotate. You cannot even straighten. And you can't even "delete" from the main edit screen, which is annoying. No ability to rename a single photo, or to make notes (such as "Grandma Mary" or whatever) so that a future viewer might know who is in the photo). AND BEWARE: The "ScanSmart" portion of the software does NOT save a copy of your scans locally like the fastfoto function does, and it does NOT tell you that if your computer goes to sleep while you're in the middle of a project, you will LOSE all of your work. I spent an entire day scanning and editing 150 pages of a 300 page project (these were newspaper articles- each one of which had to be removed from the plastic sleeve I had it stored in and placed individually into the "carrier" sheet that came with the unit. A LOT of work). After working all day on this project, I went to sleep, planning to complete it the next day. Imagine my horror when I opened my computer the following day and found that ALL of my work had DISAPPEARED. I called "customer service" and after literally two hours of very annoying interaction during which I was handed off to 7 different agents, I discovered that unlike the fastfoto portion of the software, "scansmart" does not automatically save a local copy, and In order to "save", you're apparently supposed to click "NEXT" (not "save", which would be intuitive). I did NOT click "next" (why would I, since I was in the middle of the project and intended to continue the following day?) Little did I realize that once I left, I would lose all of that work forever. There was NO prompt at all except the 'next' button. If it's not going to save a local copy, the software should NOTIFY you of such upfront and require that you select how you would like your work to be saved BEFORE you do it. (I understand that usually when writing a document in some other application, you would save it afterwards, but in this case it is confusing b/c one could assume- as I did- after using the "fastfoto" software and seeing that local copies are kept on your computer that the document scanner would do the same thing) CUSTOMER SERVICE was a huge disappointment, too. As noted, it took me 2 hours to get someone who could help. Of the 7 reps that I spoke with, ONE of them was kind and empathetic. Epson should have done a LOT more beta testing with real humans before releasing this product. Really disappointing, especially from a brand whose products I have enjoyed in the past. In short, please save yourself the money, time and aggravation.

Scratches, damages photos
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very sad. I was hoping to scan my family photos but this thing damages the physical prints. The rollers scratch lines into the photograph. I have cleaned and cleaned the machine. So frustrated and sad. I went to Amazon reviews and saw other users had the same problem with this machine. Not sure what to do with this $600 mistake now since I’m outside of the return window. It was not easy to set up either! Total waste of (a lot!) of time.

Alas, decent until the fatal flaw!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fairly decent speeds. (once you ignore the fairly ridiculous 300 dpi and the fake 1200 dpi... so the one remaining setting : 600) I'm rather a traditionalist so the goofy photo "enhancements" were quickly ignored. Ran though, I don't know, couple hundred small 3x5 prints. As they tended to fly all over the floor I set the output tray much smaller. Here is when things when awry. (sure a good chunk of user - well I won't call it error - happened) The international company known for printing advertises "sure, shove 36 pictures of any size in here and go for it! and for the privilege we charge you quite a few Benjamin but boy you're gonna be happy!" Put the last few 3x5s in there with a good chunk of 8x10s (which can only be scanned vertically btw) and proceeded on my way. (PC and scanner are in different rooms.) Went to check after a few and a good half dozen of the 8x10s were mangled/bent in half because of the output tray I had to make smaller to keep the smaller pics from flying all over the floor. Yeah, I should have thought better. More YEAH tho - they should have a design that can handle scanning various sizes in one batch - which as mentioned - they advertise! Or don't advertise and advise against it. Anyway of course, would have kept it even only having decent resolution, but back it goes for this idiocy. 6 irreplaceable photos for $500 pile of plastic - nah.

Epson app broken, can't use it.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have no idea how well it scans, as the mobile app that controls it can not connect. Am told that it is a known issue, no estimate on when it will be fixed. Add that to Epson requiring payment and credit card information before supplying support, and I deeply regret this purchase.

Hangs during scans
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this scanner after reading the reviews but it's not working well on a WiFi connection. The FastFoto software will hang or pause for a significant time during scanning. I bought this for the fast scan , but the hanging symptom defeats the purpose of the purchase. .I will return this back to the store.

Horrible image quality and performance degradation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have thousands of pictures that need t be scanned and hoped that the FF-680W would be the machine to do it. Unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. No matter how much I adjusted the settings, scanned images looked terrible. They were generally significantly darker than the original images, not close to color matching, and completely loss any sign of vibrancy. The images looked as if they were scanned in the office copy machine. Also, there was a significant degradation in performance. I started with the ability to scan 40+ pictures at a rate of 1 picture/second, Howe er, after only 500-600 scans, this went down to me being forced to feed each picture individually, and it took at least two seconds/picture to process.

Disappointing product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed in this product, I was hoping it would work. This would save a lot of time scanning photos. But there are 2 drawbacks, first is that the maximum scanning resolution is 600dpi and the second is that the pictures were scanning too dark, even epson's tech support could not figure it out. it does scan document with no problems though.

Very disappointed.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have thousands of photos in albums and boxes spanning 80 years. Over the years I have scanned hundreds of photos (and slides too) using my Epson V550 flatbed scanner and have always been extremely happy and impressed by the image quality. When the Epson Fastfoto 680 went on sale I bit the bullet hoping I could finish this labor of love this year. I was so disappointed. The quality of the scanned photo was poor and the "auto corrected" version was even worse. It was not worth the $$$ and returned it. Back to my V550!

Product great but the Best Buy rewards program bad
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The item itself is amazing! Works great, however the reward points system is absolutely the worst. Because you purchase a gift card at another establishment, you can’t get points. So this will be probably my last purchase from them. Again product great and very impressive. The reward system validates many reasons to shop online
