Decent inexpensive flatbed scanner but...

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In late spring of 2021 my existing flatbed scanner of another brand died on me as I was approaching the end of a multi-year project of digitizing thousands (30-50k) of family photos from my parents estate. The direct replacement for what I had (originally same price as the V39) had tripled in price over the prior 3 years. I finally decided it had to be replaced anyway. The V39 seemed to be the most affordable option with high resolution capabilities. After downloading the necessary software & drivers the V39 appeared to do decent work. Color accuracy seems pretty good. Scan speed is reasonably fast. The physical unit does fairly well. My primary issue and the reason for the so-so rating is that Epson software. It doesn't allow for the level of flexibility I had become used to with my previous scanner. There seems to be very limited options for setting scan area, resolutions etc.. It doesn't always retain last used settings. The auto scan function seems to clip edges off of anything that is not a rectangular photo print and even clips edges of those photos as well. It will scan multiple photo prints at once and create separate image files. That feature seems to work well. If I could use the software from the other brand with this unit I would give it a 5-star review. As it is, I may just have to spend the extra to go back to what I had before.

The only thing that is a drawback is that the online functions don't work on my Mac. I can't scan directly to google drive or anything like that That's not a scanner issue I think that's a software issue.cchopefuly it gets updated
