Like the light weight & small size, but it doesn't scan all the time, so you can get through 5 pages of 10, and the buttons no longer work, so you either have to start over from page 1, or leave the doc split into 2 files. Other than lack of consistency, it's very nice & easy to use.

Its an easy scanner to use and doesn't take up much space. I really like that it runs off USB power. The problem is the drivers and software than comes with it. It almost immediately becomes unusable and the PC will no recognize the scanner. I had to go to Epson website to download all new drivers and software, and now, honestly, the scan quality is not as good for some reason. Its much worse actually so I don't know about this long term

EPSON is a solid company that makes solid products. The V39 is no exception. While I don’t use it very often, nor do I use it for photos, when I do it is fast and the images are clear. My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars) is the lack of an on/off button. Overall, if you’re looking for a decent document scanner that doesn’t break the bank, go with the V39. You won’t be sorry.

I love this scanner. I know it's not top of the lune, so can't expect that. It's scanning pictures from almost 100 years ago. And doing a great job. The pictures don't have to be completely straight but it loads them straight. Newer pictures can be scanned several on bed and it separated them. Also helpful that it doesn't require a separate power source so I can run it off the laptop when I'm out and don't have an outlet.

I had been using an old Epson printer/scanner and wanted to get sharper reproductions of pictures and documents. This scanner had gotten good reviews, but I’m not sure why. The reproductions are only slightly better than I got before. They tend to lack the sharpness of the originals and some of the colors are slightly off. The controls are difficult to use and don’t necessarily do anything anyway. There is an editing tool, but, too, lacks the ability to really impact the reproduction. I know this isn’t one of those 4-figure scanners, but it should be appreciably better than what I had. It isn’t.

I waited until I had some data on the product before reviewing it. The instructions to set up are pretty obtuse for a non-IT person. I had to change a setting and there's nothing to tell you how to do this. But...when I finally got it working, I was in business! My project is to scan and catalog 5000+ photos. I'm into 1200 and there's no glitches! This is a barebones system. You want to scan receipts into files, photos, all good. No special tweaks to photo quality. Works with Mac and Android. Will do more than one photo in separate files. It's doing it's job for a reasonable price!

Perfection V39 a great, portable, flat bed scanner

I have used the V39 flat bed scanner to obtain approximately 1500 high quality color and black & white scans of my old family photos (1800s through 2000). I will note the operation instructions did not clarify that, when using an Mac computer, the scanner does not power on until the scanner is selected from the Epson application pop up menu. My unit did have a hardware failure after ~1500 scan operations, where the scanning bar locked up, but EPSON's amazing warranty service is sending me a replacement unit and are covering all shipping costs.

This scanner is basic and works great for it's main purpose. I had a quick glitch with it where it wasn't turning on at all, but then I just had to download the CD drive files again and it was up and working again.

I use it mainly for scanning text, and it does that very well. It is a lot noisier than my Epson 2450 Photo, but it is USB powered and thus very portable.
