My Epson V550 is exactly what i needed to scan our color negatives that I develop. It wasn't the cheapest but was far from the most expensive and does the job well.

I purchased this scanner in part because of brand recognition but mostly because it will scan 35mm negatives and convert to nice images.

I purchased this based on multiple recommendations I found online. While it wasn't as great as I was hoping it would be for the price, it was definitely better than many other scanners I've tried out.

My (10 yr. old) Epson Perfection died and after some research I replaced it with the Epson Perfection V550 Photo. I am very pleased with the quality and control of scans, it is an improvement over the older model. I also have an HP Envy 5660 which has a scanner, but it is not even close to comparable to the Epson. I scan photos and drawings for pyrography - this scanner works like a charm and I would recommend it to anyone.

Ive used the v550 for negatives, old pictures and cd artwork and im very happy with my purchase. The colors are fairly accurate to its source. I think for the price you get great performance. The next step up would be the v800 and v850 which is triple or more the price of this model. The flagship models are best for those who mainly work with negatives and pro use. But for those who just need an accurate scanner that can do it all without breaking the bank, i think the v550 is a great choice.

Excellent results and output quality. Multiple picture detection on the glass works very well. Saved a lot of time. Also a pretty fast scanner. Very easy to set up.

The scanner works well. I did not think it would do so good on old 35mm slides, but it is great. It is a little slow but the pictures are good.

I am still experimenting with the scanner, but find the clarity far superior to my previous scanners. I have used it for duplicating ink drawings with great success.

So far, so good. This is our first, still learning it but what we have done so far, we do like it. No doubt as we discover what it's capable of doing, the more we're going to like it.

I needed to scan over 1000 photos for a family project and I thought this would be a decent product for that... I mean it's over $200, how bad could it be, right?? Well... first off, it plugs into the computer so you'd think it would just CONNECT once you ran the setup. But about every third time I'd hit the button on the scanner, it would say it couldn't connect! It's not like I was trying to use wifi or bluetooth- it was plugged in! This happened on my laptop and my brand new desktop computer, so I'm pretty sure it's a scanner issue. So then I'd have to minimize whatever screen I was looking at and start scanning from the desktop icon. I tried unplugging and re-plugging, rebooting both the scanner and computer, and whatever else I could think of but nothing would remedy the annoying connection message. Next issue: you have this nice, big flatbed scanner that supposedly can distinguish individual pictures and scan them as individual files. I could never EVER get more than 4 small pictures to do that at once and even that was a lucky shot. (Usually I would only be able to do 3 at a time.) I'm talking like old 3×5s and smaller, wedged into the 4 corners of the scanner, and it would still recognize 2 photos as only 1 image. And it was completely inconsistent too. So you'd be happily scanning along and all of a sudden it decides to start combining images...then you have to pull them off and start over. And nothing at all changed- same size photos as the 5 or 6 previous batches, but BAM! It decides to forget how to work. SUPER ANNOYING. The third issue I realized is that the file numbering only goes to 999. This means you have to start another set with a different name. I ended up overwriting a bunch of pictures because I didn't realize this was happening at first. It does have a few good qualities, like being able to customize settings (which has a small learning curve). It also has a color correct option that's actually pretty good. Old photos looked really nice! The problem is that it didn't autocorrect all of them, which I found annoying, but I just didn't have the time to do each one individually or to upload them to Lightroom and tackle them that way. Overall though, when this thing worked, it did work well. It just was so inconsistent that it made me want to poke my eyes out. I didn't experiment with the slide scanner, so I have no feedback to give on that component. Honestly, I probably should have just returned this thing, but I need a photo scanner and the next one up is hundreds of dollars more. There's no real middle of the road when it comes to a dedicated PHOTO scanner. Hopefully I won't have too many more massive projects or this thing might just get tossed out a window...
