I have had this same scanner for over 10 years and it has faithfully worked well for my needs. Now that I retired it decided to die - just when I was wanting to start to convert my photos to digital format! The only change that I can see is that the on/off switch is a new micro push button instead of the flip switch and I suspect it was the reason why the previous one died. So great! Trust this one will last longer. It comes with a host of programs, including scan to text (a dream come true), and special programs to restore those older faded photos which may have spots and stuff on them that you don't want. So poof! Gone! It also comes with slide holders so those can be scanned and converted to digital. Oh, and if you don't quite get the photo to line up well, it rotates it around for you so there is less scrambling to adjust each of those multiple photos you have spread around on the scanner bed. And it has an adjustable cover so if you have a book to scan the cover hinge stands proud and accommodates the book thickness. The front of the machine has some quick buttons which are shortcuts to use when doing repetitive tasks. The quality is totally great, could not ask for more in this must have machine. Start up time is minimal- ready to run in seconds. Thank you Epson! great product.

Great Scanner (doc, prints, negs & transparencies)

My last Epson lasted 15 years before the scanning element stopped working. I decided to stay with Epson and chose the V600. It's fast turning on and scanning documents is accurate. Scanning films such as 35mm and 2-1/4 (6x6 and 6x7) negs and transparencies is easy but sometimes the output is little flat. I don't use the supplied correction software module that suppresses grain and dust because it sometimes produces odd artifacts. Critical work is processed in Lightroom. The results are better than original prints I made 30 years ago.

Epson V600 Flatbed Scanner Review

I bought the V600 to scan old photos and some slides. Many of the photos have scratches and some dust specs. After scanning I use Lightroom or Photoshop to finish off the reproduction. The V600 quality is so good, it limits the need for much post-processing of the photos. I have been very disappointed in the ICE software. Overall the quality and price make this product worth the investment.

Great for digitizing decades of memories

I'm digitizing old pictures (prints, slides, negative), both to allow easy access, and to reduce clutter by throwing away old prints and photo envelopes. For me the Epson Perfection V600 has been a great choice. It handles all my different media. If the pictures are faded the software can recolorize them so that they look fresh. My pictures look good as 4x6 prints, but they probably do not have the fine resolution for enlarging to poster size. (They were were taken with point and shoot cameras, or an SLR with the low-end zoom lens that came with the camera). So there was no reason for me to pay a higher price for a better quality scanner. Scanning negatives at 800 dpi yields images that show all the details that are visible in the original prints. Increasing to 1200 dpi does not improve the result. (I'll test higher dpi again if I ever find my old Kodachrome slides taken with a better-quality fixed focus lens.)
It takes about a half hour to scan a set of 8 negatives. (It will take months to finish my project.) But since the process runs automatically, you can do other things while the scanner is scanning.
I'm using a PC with Windows 10, and the software works smoothly.
In short, I'm glad I bought this scanner. It does what I want it to do, and does it with good quality.

Decided to scan our qazillion family photos and old negatives. The scanner works well with my Mac. The software is a tad funky and I had to do a lot of trial and error with the settings to get the best results. Most family photos can be scanned with default settings (300 dpi) but slides and negatives need a lot higher dpi, like 2400. I am cataloging the images in Apple Photos which means a multi step process.
I considered the Epson bulk photo scanner but the reviews were not great and no slide or negative scanning. With this scanner it is a more manual process but with higher quality and flexibility.

Just received this after reading through many reviews here and elsewhere. The unit is solidly built and easy to use after installing the software. I ran a few test scans on various film types (negatives, slides, photographs) and the results were impressive. The software menus are a little overwhelming, but it looks like you can tweak a number of settings to get the results you're looking for. I bought this primarily for scanning old photos and slides to digital formats. Color restoration works well thus far and I'm looking forward to learning more about dust and scratch removal.

Best Machine on the Market

I have found that this product is one of the best scanners on the market today.
I have been using it for many different projects over the past 3 years which has easily surpassed 80,000 scans and this Machine continues to perform flawlessly.
I only recently purchased this Machine again solely to have as a Back-Up in case the original one that was purchased would malfunction during a recent important scanning Project which contained over 2300 separate Slide scans.
Despite having so much use over the years it continues to Scan Prints,Slides & Negatives to perfection and quickly.
Anyone considering to purchase a scanning device do not search for another.
This one will exceed any expectations..

Scanning 35mm and Photos

Does a nice job of scanning pictures and my old 35mm negatives. The color correction is very good. It is fairly quick to scan. I certainly beats the scanner on my all purpose printer. The software on Windows works well, though I did find that for negatives the professional controls work best. There is Linux software available but it is not nearly as robust as the Windows version and is not included on the CD. I have used the Linux version for scanning documents and it works well.

One of the best scanners for archiving old family photos. It has its quirks, but it's still better than others I've tried.
The color restoration and dust removal are pretty good in most cases. Some pictures are just too degraded to get a great result, but it's still one of my favorite features. When it works well, it's really amazing. When it doesn't, it's disappointing but hey, it can't work miracles.
The reason for 4 stars is the auto image detection and orientation aren't so stellar and anything with a white background, you'll have to take it off auto mode and do a preview where you can select the area to scan. The auto orientation is really lacking. More often than not, my photos are turned sideways or completely upside down.
As for the auto detection, I love when I can put 4 or even 6 photos and not have to scan each one individually, however it seems to do best with 2-3 photos at a time. With 4 or more, a lot of the time it thinks 2 photos are 1 and scans them together no matter how spaced out they are or what angle I put them at. It's fairly annoying when that happens because it ends up taking more time rather than saving me time.
Incidentally, if you have trouble getting your pictures perfectly straight, this generally does a great job of straightening them automatically but only if they're at an obvious angle. If I try to lay them straight and they're just a little bit off, they will scan that way and straightening them doesn't always work because it snaps to a grid so to speak. You can't straighten things precisely, it's more like each degree is a set point and there is no in-between.
Overall, this scanner really is the best I've tried so far. This was actually the second one I've bought. I used my first one so much that after a couple years of heavy use, it started making a weird noise. It was still working fine, but I bought this one just in case it dies on me.
What do I wish they would do for the next version? Step up the auto detection and auto rotation features, make the scan bed bigger or offer a bigger version, and offer more negative holders. I really needed something that could hold 110 film negatives and there doesn't appear to be a manufacturer's option. I had to buy from a 3rd party and hope it works out.
One more wish list item, step-up the color correction. I'm not great at fiddling with settings, but I'd love different auto settings where maybe I could select correction for photos that have turned red, green or yellow. I don't feel like one size fits all with the color correction.

It took some doing getting the software set up for my iMac (Epson does not have a driver for Catalina...yet). However, with some patience, I was able to download the free key that Epson provided for the basic Silverlight software.
Basically, Google helped me learn a bit about Silverlight which then made the V600 work like a charm. Developed some 55 year old color negatives - several of which had been so over exposed that I didn't even know there were images on the transparencies. Got some pictures even from those. The quality was as good as any serious hobbier could use.
Would buy it again.

Epson Perfection V600 Review-Great Results!

Excellent quality. For the same price as a cheap one off scanner the V600 gives you the same quality as its big brother the V850 that costs four times as much. Software looks the same - only difference is the V850 can scan 12 slides at once while the V600 can only scan 4 slides at once. Not a problem for me, even with four boxes of slides to go through. Definitely worth the extra time for great quality at a reasonable price.

I purchased this as an upgrade from my V300 scanner and I love it; it is much sturdier and I appreciate that it opens from the front instead of the side. The user interface offers many options and is easy to use. The quality of the scans is wonderful and it scans quickly.

I have been using this Epson V600 to scan antique photographs and slides, and am quite happy with the result. Half-century old Kodachromes come across crisply, and the internal 'filmstrip' rack attachment holds them well. A word of advice, though: the included program's auto cropping option for slides, while convenient, does trim off the perimeter of the images. I found this out after scanning 160 slides, and have since manually selected the 'filmstrip' and cropped them myself to preserve more of the image.

This scanner is very easy to use and a good value. I used it to scan thousands of negatives of pictures from my kid's childhood so that they have one thumb drive with all of their pictures! Kids today do not want photo albums but digital pictures. The quality and color of these scans is the best I have found. Better quality scanners wil costs hundreds if not thousands more and probably won't result in much better scans. Services charge thousands too!

Really good scanner but it is quite expensive. Its very easy to use. You can scan negatives, slides, and pictures. It allows you to scan multiple images at a time and splits the images into separate files, found that out by accident. It took a day to scan 4,000 images. So i think its pretty quick.

After my father's death I ended up with hundreds of slides. This photo scanner is designed to digitize slides and negatives (and I have plenty of those too!). Software comes on a CD which is supplied. (In fact, everything you need is in the box.) Easy to use (there are a lot of You Tubes showing how). The local camera store wanted $5 a pop to scan a slide so this thing paid for itself very quickly. I would highly recommend.
