Packaging: The Epson Workforce ES-400 Document Scanner in black came in a compact box tightly packed with all cables properly bagged and taped down so they did not move about in the product box. The actual scanner was packaged between two sturdy styrofoam ends and placed in a protective bag to avoid scratches. The scanner had no room for movement and traveled via FedEx very well. Once the scanner is removed from the protective bag every single moving part was properly taped down and protected so that movement from transit would not damage or break the product. Setup: Included in the box was a simple Start Here guide which identified all the proper parts that should have been included in the box as well as how to properly remove the protective tape. Step 2 simply involved going directly to the Epson support site to download the Driver and Software Utility to install and setup the scanner. The website easily detected the correct version of Windows (including 64 bit) I was using and provided the direct download link. Once downloaded the setup file was super quick and easy and walks you through setup which literally took less than 5 minutes. Once the setup was complete the Epson Software Updater checked the firmware version of the scanner and instructed that an update was available. The Epson Software Updater does look a little outdated as far as software goes these days but it quickly downloaded and installed the firmware update for the scanner in about 2 minutes. Once the software and firmware were installed and updated the scanner was ready to go. Operation: The Epson Workforce ES-400 Document Scanner has a really small footprint especially when closed up and not in use. Once installed I tested various documents and scan settings resulting in better than expected results. Not only was this thing fast but the quality of the scans were amazing and really provided the detail needed to archive documents. I love the ability to scan both sides of a document at once as this not only speeds up your scanning but makes the process so much easier as you do not have to constant flip paper and try to remember what side you already scanned such as use with a flatbed scanner (my previous scanner). Controls were simple to figure out and the included software made it easy to start scanning in the file formats you want right out of the box with no hassle whatsoever. Conclusion: If you're in the market for a stand alone scanner or scan many documents day to day, take a serious look at the Epson Workforce ES-400 Document Scanner as it is fast, accurate and easy to setup while taking up little space when in use and especially when not. This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Compact, Fast and user friendly scanner

This is a nice compact and a really fast scanner. I have used many scanners but this one is a piece of art loaded with technology. It is compact, takes space and best thing I like is the flaps close inside it. And according to my HR it is cute. It took me less than 5 minutes to open the box install and get my first 10 scans. The instructions are so well written, I was able to install it by just using the illustrations (did not read the entire instructions when installing, but did go through them later). It is really easy to setup and install. In fact this was the fastest I ever installed. It uses a USB3.0 cable and can operate on both USB3.0 and USB2.0. I tired installing the software on windows 8 pro, windows 10 and windows 7. It worked really fine and the software installation was also really simple. After the software was installed it did update the firmware which took additional 30 seconds (really fast; and this happened only once). This is small but a beast, it scanned documents really fast and the best part was it is a duplex scanner which mean you insert the page once and both sides are scanned. I scanned all the bill (crushed, crumpled receipts from food joints, gas station etc. that are really thin) at lightning fast speed without a paper jam!! And believe me this is the first time I was able to scan without a paper jam. I also scanned my passport, driver’s license and credit cards which was really easy to because of this scanner. The software is easy to use and understand. The application is not fancy which I love, it user friendly (not fancy) and has a few drop downs which are simple to understand and work with. I used the custom mode to have it work according to my wish. It worked pretty well, and the output was awesome. Since there was no paper jam, I deliberately jammed to test the pause button, which is another amazing feature of this scanner. This button is like the extra brain, so in a paper jam we need to start scanning from scratch, but this button take that pain away from us and now we just need to re-scan the paper which is stuck and can resume the scan from there. Conclusion: It is a nice compact scanner which take really less space and is really easy to use. User friendly interface, fast and awesome picture quality or in short ‘Cute’. The Epson WorkForce ES-400 Color Duplex Document Scanner is a full featured and very capable personal and business document scanner and works well for everything from receipts to reports to books and periodicals. The Epson Document Capture software that comes with the scanner is full featured and actually rather powerful. It has options that can solve almost any scanning problem. There is a bit of learning curve in both finding the right mix of options for your scanning problems and in understanding how the the various options interact with each other. Likewise the HELP available at each level does in fact exactly explain every feature and option. Likewise, the best setting for scanning text documents, especially books, is to use "page and content" skew correction. I obtained great results on books, even books with extensive full page images, using this setting. However, when a document has images a page will be aligned correctly as long as there is some text, even if it is only a caption. If the page has an image only then the software will sometimes zero in on angles in the image and twist the image way out of alignment. The best setting for a page with an image but no text is "paper skew" only. It would be helpful if Epson had anticipated this mix of page types and had built some IF/AND/THEN code into the software that would basically be "IF image and no text AND paper and content skew set THEN paper skew only" even if the software was set to "paper and content" skew correction. Another example is page size. The Auto Detect feature works very well. But it can from time to time choke and cause a page less than full size to be rendered on a full size background. I have found the best course with book scanning, for example, is to manually set the dimension of the job. This however requires going down a level, selecting format, selecting "user defined" and then creating a profile for that selection. Then save that profile, go back to the main dialog, etc. However, if you should opt to change from single to double sided scanning, or the reverse, in the middle of a job then the page size will revert to LETTER. You have to go back down and manually reselect the User Defined profile again. One other example is the image type settings for "Auto, Color, Gray and B&W". You might think that this is for the capture mode. But in reality it defines the output mode. The scanner captures in full spectrum in either case. This impacts the scanning of documents that have paper that is not exactly white, or books with yellowed pages for example. If you use the GRAY mode for these types of problem sources the results will have a muddy sort of "dirty" looking page tone. If you use B&W then every single little variation on the page will be rendered as black dots or smudges. The solution is to use the setting, once again, down a level, that allows for filtering input to not include various colors or to capture only black. Likewise, you could use GRAY mode for capture but boost the contrast of the captured image. Using any of those image correction options disables "text enhancement", a feature that contributes to text readability, so you may need to increase image resolution from 300 to 600 dpi when scanning docs with problematic paper color or yellowing. In any case the power is there in the Epson software to get a good result, but the location, relationship and interaction of the options isn't exactly obvious. The scanner comes with a TWAIN driver that allows the use of other document management software. Either way the scanner hardware is excellent and the results that I have obtained with a broad range of document types, including scanning art books with full color images, have likewise been excellent. The scanner handles most paper types without a problem, although the sort of thick, almost card stock like glossy paper used for many art books printed in China can sometimes cause it to jam and require some page by page attention. For most routine jobs with new or recent documents in good condition however the scanner just sails along and the default settings will produce great results. This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I reviewed free of charge to do a beta test and review. The scanner was shipped in its retail packaging and arrived without any damage to the outside of the packaging. When I opened the package, the scanner was nicely secured in the box with two styrofoam molds on each side of it. I could tell that there was no way the scanner could get scratched or break after being secured in that way. Once I removed the scanner from the molds, I noticed that the scanner was inside of a plastic bag which further protected it from scratches. I took the scanner and the manuals out the plastic bag so I could start installing the scanner. The scanner came with manuals in different languages, so if you’re scared of buying electronics and having to install them and not being able to read the instructions, because the language in the manual isn’t your most fluent language, then these manuals will make it easier for you to install the scanner while reading a manual in a language you’re comfortable with. I started reading the manual and unpacking the scanner and removing the blue tape from various areas in and around the scanner. At first I was wondering why did they put so much tape on the scanner, it’s taking forever to remove it, but then I realized there weren’t any broken areas on the scanner, so all that tape had served its purpose. After I removed all the tape, I took the power adapter and its cord out of their plastic bags and connected them and then I took the usb cable out of its plastic bag and connected them to the scanner, which was easy to do. I connected the usb cable to my computer and the power adapter to my wall socket and followed the instructions in the manual on installing the software. The software installation was fast and easy and at the end of the installation, it will ask you to turn on the scanner and the installation of the scanner is complete. I read the manual again to see how to do my first scan and it was easy to follow and do. My first scan was super-fast. I started to have a flashback of those Neat scanner commercials and I thought I think this scanner is faster than that one. I did some more scans with more pages and I only ran into one problem with a scan, the paper I was trying to scan was a little too folded and it cause a paper jam and I was able to clear it and start back scanning again. The scanner scans black and white and grayscale documents really fast and it scans color documents a little slower but still faster than other scanners would scan a color document. I would highly recommend this scanner to anybody that wants to scan something and send it on to its final location in less than five minutes. From now on, this scanner will be my go to scanner before the scanner that’s built into my printer. The software that came with the scanner is easy to use, the scanner scans really fast, and the quality of the scans are amazing. This scanner will save you time, frustration, clutter, and leave you with beautiful scans that you will feel proud to send to anybody.

We were ripped off by the company that sold us our former scanner. They did not update our 2005 scanner driver when Windows 10 was installed on July 31, 2016 on our computer. We made the mistake of buying another scanner of the same brand. It did not interact well with Nuance, the company that provides Paperport. Before you buy a scanner, google the leading brands and model and find the trail of unhappy customers from other brands. Best Buy specifications for scanners did not answer important questions, but we learned from the Epson ES-400 buyers' huge articles on the Best Buy website, how great this Epson scanner is. You can google a manual online, but we learned through trial and error how to use this scanner. It is user friendly. If you want to edit, you have to right click Image Class first. We happen to have bought Paperport years ago and liked it, but it doesn't work with the scanner brand we had. After the scan with Epson, we open up Paperport and edit, but it seems different. We are either using both the Epson program and the Paperport program to edit, or we are using one of them to edit. We don't know how this scanner would work if we didn't open it in Paperport. Since the scanning steps are different (and easier) we may actually be editing with Epson's program. I don't know and I don't care. One tip: Right click "select article," use your mouse to surround an item, and you can delete that part of the document. We avoid multifunction printer/scanners/etc because when one part breaks, you need to buy another one. What are the odds that you are going to get the best printer, best scanner, best whatever in one multifunctional device. It's also a space saver on your desk, but if you have a small dog or cat, it doesn't have a flat surface for them to sit when you're not using it. It is not pet friendly like my b/w Samsung printer. Our pet likes to make copies by pushing the button, and he likes to turn on the phone messages and even tried to change our phone recording. If you need this, buy a flat top printer to go with this Epson ES-400.

    Nice Scanner

First of all – wow is this thing fast. Faster even that the scan function on the multi-function ones we have at work. And for a desktop scanner it’s still fairly compact, especially when the input and output trays are closed. Even better is that when it’s set for double sided scanning it doesn’t “double run” it through the scanner – once for each side of the document. There are scanning sensors on both sides of the feeder so it will scan both sides at once! It’s really nice for scanning a whole lot of documents all at once. In the Document Capture Pro software, I really like the quick destination buttons to send things directly to OneNote and Google Drive and a few others. Odd that it has one for Google Drive but not Dropbox, but I suppose that most people already have a Dropbox folder on their computer so they can just use the Folder icon to drop it there which syncs it up. Another feature I really like in the DCP software is the “Job Management” setup - you can set up multiple different specifics (file type, save location, file naming convention, resolution, etc) on how to process a scan based on what you’re scanning. For instance, if you want to save all your receipts from one store in a certain folder, you can set up a job so that, when you run it, will automatically save them to a specific folder with a customized file naming format. Some Cons: Downloaded software is fine, but they install some things in their start menu folder that make no sense – why do I need a “Buy more ink” link for a scanner? They also install a link to both “’Online support” and “ES-400 online support” - why both? And why a link for that here and not a link under the Help menu in the software? At least they don’t install an updater service that stays running in memory like a lot of other things do these days – OK for things like Java and Acrobat Reader, but a scanner/printer?. A heads up - the first time you open the output tray be careful when you try to pull the little grey “stop flipper” up when you extend the “catch arm”. The center gray part is what slides out from the scanner but the little “flipper” only flips up perpendicular to the tray – NOT leaning out away from the scanner like those things on printers typically do. The first time I tried quickly pulling it out I pulled that little popup flipper off by assuming it would work like the printer ones – luckily I didn’t break off either of the pins and easily snapped it back into place. This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. The first thing you'll receive is the box.. obviously lol. its easy to unpack age and everything is neatly packaged inside with proper instructions on how to remove the scanner. i will not that the start up manual is located underneath the scanner at the bottom of the box so make sure you grab that. the scanner is surprisingly compact and i doubt in most situations it would be hard to store. its a nice shade of black and the cables and buttons are non-obtrusive. the tray to catch paper is neatly stored beneath the scanner as well but please do be gentle as you extend it because the gray stopper can detach. so the first thing you'll need is the software you'll have to download, the instructions on where to find it can be located in the the manual so MAKE SURE YOU KEEP IT( i didn't lose mine) its a fairly decent sized file to download as it comes with everything you'll need to start your scanning adventure. after that, if you have any issues getting things to work , all you need is a quick restart of your laptop or desktop computer and everything will be gravy. In my personal experience, setup for me was around 5-10 minutes ( had to restart to get it to work, took me a while to figure that out) but the first test with it cleared with no issue. and it does have double sided scanning. its pretty good, and i suspect it has multi-loading but i haven't tested this yet. my conclusion? Its a pretty good scanner if you want to save space while being efficient.

I’m a mac person and I personally hate it when there are functions on products that do that work well or are super hard to set up on my mac. I have a small office and I also am have been working on scanning family pictures to digital slowly for the past few years. The highlight for me with the ES-400 scanner is the fact that I can stack 40-50 photos and the scanner will auto-feed and scan them in at a much higher quality that I should ever need. Pro’s: - Unfolds easily so that dust and debris don’t fall in while not in use. (It’s literally lift the top and slide out the bottom and scan) - Duplex in full color, and will save to a pdf in the correct order. - It’s fast, soooo fast, I put a piece of paper in and hit scan, and it almost feels like the paper is just dropping through - I placed 5 pages front and back and I counted one-one hundred …… and it took 6 seconds to have a pdf with all 5 pages front and back. - It comes with software to convert into searchable pdf’s - Worked just fine on my mac - Very Clear, I zoomed in on the pages I scanned and they were flawless. - I was able to place 15 Photos and scan them in beautifully (The paper base adjusts easily to fit nearly everything. Con’s: - Not Wireless - My biggest complaint is the wording “scan to online storage accounts — intuitively scan to Dropbox, SharePoint, Google ……. - Yes, it’s easy to setup to scan directly to share boxes. However the attached computer needs to be on. I thought that meant I could set it up and it would upload documents automatically. But I need to boot up the computer if I want to do that. (Not an issue in an office or where you always have the computer on) - I’ve always been a fan of the sleek and stylish, this Scanner is boxy. It’s not bad and once in the office blends right in, but my initial impression was “that looks awfully boxy, This is why I gave it 4 stars) - I had to download and install the mac drivers before plugging it in (easy to find but it still took me another 3 minutes to install) Overall I’m really impressed with the simple yet robust capability, the quality of image, and the speed at which it scans on both sides. I also really appreciate the auto-feed with the ability output in the document/photo type of your choice. The scanner was very secure in the box and it was a little difficult for me to get the scanner out. I like how the parts for the scanner though are very minimal and it ships with the USB Cable and power cord. The set up for the scanner was very easy. The instructions for setting up the scanner were also very clear and with a simple download, the scanner was up and running. I love the size of the scanner and how perfectly it fits on my computer desk. The document capture software included in the download is very responsive. Scanning my first document was easy and the scanner was quick and quite silently. The bottom tray can be extended to many different positions and I scanned many separate documents within seconds. Scanning multiple documents was simple as well and the scanner has a button to slow down the scan for delicate documents like receipts. Overall I am very happy with this scanner. The set up was quick, the software was easy to download and I am very excited to try the other software that is included and to scan more documents! This scanner will definitely help to keep all those important documents organized and the quality of the scan is very good too. My only drawback is the cost. I think the price seems a bit high. I have been using the Epson Es-400 document scanner for a few days now and I must say it's a pretty good scanner. I currently use a neat receipts scanner and although neat has the superior software, the Epson has a better feeder and you can lay a bunch of documents in the feeder and scan them in all at once with a push of a button. Setup: Setup was very simple. There was a small quick start guide included with the package. Although there was no cd with the driver software, there is a link to get it directly from the site. I like this better because most new computers like mine don't even have a dvd drive anymore and you can always get the most up to date driver directly from the manufacturer website anyway and it cut costs anyways. Once the software is installed, the scanner was recognized right away after plugging in the included usb cable. Most printers/scanners don't include one these days but it is a plus for this scanner to include one and it is rather long as well. Use: Once the software and scanner are setup, usage is a breeze with this scanner. You can either scan directly from pressing the button on the scanner or using the included software to scan through that. The scanner will either do single side or double sided and will scan pretty fast. Once the documents are scanned into the Document capture pro, you have the option to rename/rotate and flip the images. You can also save them in a few formats, either Pdf, jpg and a few other file types, lots to choose from. Conclusion: The Epson ES-400 is a great scanner for someone looking to digitize there file cabinet into a bunch of pdfs. But anyone looking for document organization, should look at the Neat products, but if you are just looking to send stuff to pdf or image format, I think the Epson is a great product and would recommend it. “This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

Setting up the Epson ES-400 was so easy and quick. The steps were very easy to follow to remove the packing material and plug it in. I found the installation of the software not only simple to install, but also comfortable to use. Following the installation I was prompted that a firmware update was ready for the device and after following the on screen prompts I knew I was all up to date. I was ready to use the scanner. I placed some documents in the scanner and with the software picked the ‘Scan’ option. It went right through and received both sides as on file. I like the built-in email feature to send the document via email. I did not like that the documents had to be placed face up, but pointing down into the machine. I would rather see the document pointing up as it makes it easier to place a multipage document in the tray. I did like that when I was finished after some time the scanner went to an energy saving mode. Once I was ready to use it again it did not take long to wake up. This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. After spending some time using this product it is easy to say it is one of my favorite document scanners. I like that it is sleek and can sit on my desktop for convenient use. It has all the features of the big all-in-ones for scanning, but when you just want to keep digital copies of your work it is so much better to have it ready and nearby. I will use this to preserve medical documents, tax documents, receipts, and my children’s school work and drawings. I can finally have a convenient way to get everything stored properly. This will really save time, effort, and is really fun to use. I will continue my exploration of uses and features on this scanner. It is nice that when I am through some work I can close it all up and keep the dust out.

When I first found out about this scanner, I was expecting something slightly large and clumsy that my wife would give me grief about, taking up space that we couldn't sacrifice in our house. When the box arrived and I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised. First off, the size is MUCH smaller than I expected. Add to that the fact that this folds up to take up even less space (trays fold in). Granted, the power supply is still a bit of a lug,but you take the good with the bad. When it comes to performance, scanning couldn't be easier once the software is set up (on a Windows 10 laptop and a Surface tablet). Settings are easily defined and editable, and dual-sided scans take almost no time when not using the wait for ADF feature. The latter is great, as it lets you add sheets as necessary, but is a bit slower, and will time out after a few minutes of inactivity (not a bad thing, and can be controlled). The quality of the scans is fantastic, as well. They easily go to the main formats you would expect - PDF, JPG, and the clarity is great, especially when you change to the higher DPI settings. Combine all these into my latest project - scan ALL the paper we have in our house and store it in safe repositories (secure online, multiple storage devices). Time to get rid of years of paper clutter! The first scanner I bought for myself about 20 years ago was an Epson flatbed, and I loved that one. I was sad when it eventually broke, and never had another quite like it. Knowing that Epson scanners are still great quality makes me happy. I am very excited about this scanner! I have never had one that could really scan multiple documents at once and even front and back. It makes my life a whole lot easier! Plus, this is my first scanner that I ever used to capture them perfectly by feeding the papers I have scanned or even my ID Cards through the top and having them slide down to the bottom. Also the same for the photos I take and documents and other sheets of paper I have scanned. Normally, I use a regular flatbed scanner or wand, but the style of the Epson really helps make it a whole lot easier and it appears perfect when seen on the screen. The buttons are very simple to understand and are super easy to use. I really didn't have to take too long to learn the functions or features of this scanner. I normally have plenty of documents and photos to scan daily, so this is just a wonderful device in my home for both business and regular use. Plus, the speed is terrific and when I can easily connect it to my WiFi service, I'm able to get my documents from scanner to my computer with ease or even save it till I'm ready to transfer or use them. I honestly love the design as well! I can easily place this somewhere when I'm not using it and it won't hog up much space. The design allows me to easily fold up the main parts, that normally hold the document which will be scanned. Plus, it allows those parts to be protected when not in use and keeps my table a bit more spacious without hogging up much of the area. Finally, the many pages and photos I scan daily, this is an excellent and powerful scanner! I am very pleased with this device and would highly recommend it to my friends and anyone who wants a reliable scanner. “This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

I received this scanner and it was smaller than I expected it to be. It was packaged well and setup was quick and easy out of the box. Plugged it into my laptop and desktop, both running Windows 10, and it detected and installed the appropriate drivers with no issues. Software needed to be downloaded and installed but was not a large file. Scanner was up and running in just a short time with relatively no effort. The Epson ES-400 has a small footprint on a desk and unfolds when needed to scan, then folds back up for storage. Scan times a very fast even at a high resolution and duplex. Scans both sides at the same time which makes the scan fast and quiet. Software is easy to use for a beginner but has many options to tweak and customize the scan quality, file type and destination. I used the scanner to convert paper charts to an electronic system and they looked clear and were formatted into a single pdf effortlessly. I appreciated the automatic skew adjustment to make the pages straight, which resulted in some pages looking better than the original. When scanning duplex pages, it will skip the blank pages making file sizes compact and no wasted pages. Only have had one jam so far and that was very long strip of thin, glossy paper. Jam was easy to clear and the scanner could pick up where it left off without starting over again. A welcome treat when scanning a large amount of pages and the jam happens toward the end of the stack. Very happy with this scanner only wish it could be used on a network without an additional interface that costs as much as the scanner itself. This is a great option for any small business or home office. This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Lots of power in a compact package!

I never expected so much performance from such a compact device. When I got the box for my Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner, I laughed, thinking to myself, “there’s no way this could be a 35ppm scanner….” I stand corrected – this scanner is FAST. You can scan both sides of a page in a single pass, and the unit folds up and can be stored in a space 11” X 6” X 8”. Mine just sits on my desk and isn’t in the way. Scans of paper originals are accurate and crisp, and if you use the Epson software, you have the option to output to JPG, BMP, PDF, TIFF, PNG, DOCX, XLSX and PPTX formats. Even if you don’t fire up the software, you can scan by simply pressing the Scan button on the ES-400 and it will automatically scan to PDF without any intervention. There are buttons to clear jams and a great feature – a button to slow down the paper feed to help protect more delicate or crumpled originals. The output tray easily folds away when not in use, keeping the footprint of the scanner small. I tried to scan a small stack of eight business cards, and while the cards did scan legibly, the scanner skewed the cards while feeding so the scans were tilted in different directions. Then I found the Business Card setting in the software along with the option to automatically correct image skew, and the cards scanned perfectly. It would be a nice touch to include software that would convert the business card into an address-book entry in Outlook or other software, but not the end of the world. Overall, a great scanner in a compact package. The ES-400 is a great choice for high speed scanning needs. I would like to start off by saying I was totally surprised by the size of the Epson ES 400 Document scanner. It was well packaged, and simple to remove. Setup was extremely simple and I was up and running very quickly. Everything you need is in the box to get you up and running. I hooked mine up to my Apple Imac and it was simple as plugging it in, and downloading some software as well. The instructions and setup guide are very detailed and great illustrations. I started off by scanning some invoices, receipts and documents. Holy smokes is this baby fast....I loaded it up and it was off to the races scanning document after document. I did batch loading which seemed to make it even quicker. I was very surprised by the speed of the scanner. I moved on to some old photos we had. I knocked out over 100 photos in no time and the clarity of the scans are great. I wanted to try something smaller so I tried some business cards and receipts and those scanned great as well. I am so happy with this device and now I can empty out some boxes full of papers, photos and receipts. it allows you to save the scans locally or you can upload them to cloud based storage like Dropbox & Google drive. The supplied software you can install is super simple to use. For me I like simple and it wasn't complicated at all to work with. If you are like me and have a ton of photos, documents, receipts , bills and business cards you want scanned look no further and grab one of these. The Epson ES 400 definitely exceeded my expectations and now I have a happy wife enjoying the digital copies of the photos I made. “This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

    Epson ES-400 Scanner

Let me start by saying that I have been using this scanner for a littler over a week now. It has its pros and cons, like anything does, and I will walk you through them a bit. First the pros of this scanner. One of the things I love most about this scanner is that it will do a two sided scan with one run. I dont have to worry about figuring out what way to turn the page around to get the other side just right. The second thing I really like is that is has a button to scan things slowly (such as gas receipts) so the paper doesnt get all torn up. My third thing is that it fold up really nicely so that when its not in use it doesn't look huge or take up a lot of space. Also the physical setup was very easy. You just plug the usb cable into your computer, and the power into the wall. I had everything all setup in under ten minutes. Now even though I love most things about this scanner it does have its downsides. One thing I've found thats a little annoying is that it wont scan a driver license. I needed to make a copy of mine for an application, and every time I tried to scan it I got an error that there was a jam. The second thing I have some issue with is the software. Yeah it works well, looks okay, and gets the job done. However there are different options that I had no clue what they did and took some web searching to find the answer. Aside from the two cons this scanner is a great product. It has a lot of potential for any scanning need. I would recommend this for anyone at home or a business. NOTICE! The ES400 EPSON Scanner was purchased as a replacement for an older system (different company) to make copies of articles, papers, documents, photos, and receipts. The unit does single images in jpeg format, does multiple pages as a single document in pdf format, does double sided scanning, eliminates blank pages, enhances images, and gives you a variety of size and layout formats. It is a little tricky to start, and it takes some study of the user guides and some practice to get the types of images and final product that you want. Since scanned images are accepted by the IRS as verification of purchase or expenditure, I've used my systems for years as a documentation source. The only problem I've had so far is that it doesn't handle oversize images (images larger than an 8.5 x 15 page, or receipts longer than 15 inches). The scanner jams and indicates a paper jam on the error code. After clearing, it works well again. Cost was a little more than I expected, especially compared to my previous scanner from another company, but production so far is making it worthwhile. I've scanned articles for my digital record, done color and black/white jobs, did a 40 page legal document, and successfully handled more than 35 receipts at once. I am satisfied with the production and the unit.

    ES-400 Scanner

This is a review for the Epson ES-400 Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Overall the process necessary to utilize the product is simple. When first receiving the product, there will be 3-4 components. The first being the actual scanner, the cord to connect to the computer, and two cords for connecting to a power source. There isn't a software CD included as the user has to go online to the Epson website and download the ES-400 software. This is a simple and quick process. After the installation is complete, it will then prompt you to connect the scanner and turn it on. After that, the user is good to go and can begin. When it comes to the use of the scanner, there are some instructions included, but the software is user friendly and self explanatory. Click on the Document Capture Pro, and then you can scan individually or set up jobs so that more detailed information can be included. In the Document Capture Pro you have the choice between single or double sided. When you are placing in the pages to be scanned have them facing the scanner with the top pointing towards the ground. The scanner will then grab each page and have them completed fairly quickly. There is a bottom tray that can be pulled out to keep the pages from flying everywhere. While in the Document Capture Pro, there are options to rotate the pages if need be, save the document into a folder, send via email, transfer, and print. In addition you can add files on hand to the scan that has just been complete or scan additional pages where needed.
