Quality Scanner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. At the moment I was handed the box by the delivery man, I noticed how small the box was, but it does have some weight to it. Unboxing the scanner required removal of the plastic protective covering and a few strips of tape holding moveable pieces in place during shipping. This device feels very well made and sturdy. An easy to follow setup document is included. After following the step-by-step guide, I had the scanner plugged in and ready to be connected to my computer. The software must be downloaded via Epson’s website, but it isn’t a huge file. I did run into a snag during setup when the software displayed errors related to wirelessly connecting the scanner to my computer. I have a brand new Netgear R6400 dual band router and the error stated that the router was broadcasting in an unusable channel. I have my router set to find a channel with the least interference, but I had to manually set the router to a lower channel in order for the scanner to finally establish a connection. Once I got past that hurdle, the software was pretty self-explanatory and easy to use, although there are plenty of on-screen instructions to guide the less tech-savvy users through the process. The ES-500W is compact and can fit into small spaces. It’s very quiet and can scan multiple documents in a matter of seconds. This is far better than the traditional flatbed scanners I’m familiar with using. The quality is exceptional, especially any resolution above 200-300 dpi. The OCR processing worked flawlessly on all textual documents I’ve scanned so far. One complaint I have with the wireless connectivity of this scanner is that it’s limited to 2.4GHz, causing it to be more prone to interference, resulting in slower transfer speeds. Having the ability to scan both sides of a page in one pass is quite a time saver. Another upside to using this scanner is the Epson smartphone app, which I used to scan multiplies wireless to a single file on my phone. How awesome is that?! Overall, The Epson ES-500W is a compact yet quality scanner. Besides some setup hiccups, this scanner is sure to be a great asset to anyone looking for an easy-to-use, versatile, and reliable scanner.

Excellent Scanner for Work or Home use.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is compact. It folds up to a small enough size to fit my very limited desk space. However it can be connected via wireless to your computer and so you can put it anywhere within the wireless range. We don't have an access point here so we don't use that option, however the corded connection works fine. I did try out the connect to my Android smart phone and it went smoothly, you just need the password and wifi name from the back of the unit. Easy. I have tried using the scanner with stacks of about 10 8.5 x 11in paper and it took a bit of getting used to but it worked fine once I learned to fan the pages correctly. It didn't take long, maybe 3 tries. Having never had a scanner that can do more than one at a time. The scan quality is exceptional and clearly better than the previous one we used(it was about 10 years old to be fair). It's quite fast compared to the other as well and we didn't think that one was too slow. We don't use color printing nor do we get much either, however I found a couple of them and the color produced is on par with the original and very clear. As to cloud saving, it is convenient and though it says you can scan to DropBox I don't see the option to do so. The only options I see in the Document Capture Pro(epsons software for using the scanner) are for Webfold, Microsoft Sharepoint Server, Evernote, OneNote, Google Drive and Sugarsync. My way around this is to save in the local Dropbox folder which syncs with the cloud. I scanned a few reciepts in order to archive them and that went fine, even though one was about 15" long, there was no problem with it. One got stuck but it was a bit wrinkled and that probably caused it to stick. All in all this is a fast, efficent scanner and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs one, whether for your business or to document the household bills, kids homework or for anything else one needs these days. This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Compact versitile fast scanner anyone can use.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. It took 42 minutes to fully set up the ES-500W over a wireless connection from unboxing to downloading drivers/software, registering it with Epson.com, and a firmware update. After the software came the firmware update. During the firmware update the instructions are vague. It tells you to turn it off then on once it’s connected to the network to turn it back on. I skipped that because it was already connected to my network and it did not make sense. I am very impressed with this compact unit. It’s very easy to put away in a closet and connects right back up to the network. It’s doesn’t have to clutter work space. They also gave you a generous cord length. It scanned 17 4x6 pictures at 600DPI in about a minute. My wife will also be getting some use of this and she’s not technical. You can save different jobs in the document capture pro software. I am a veteran and scanning my records into searchable PDF files is a lifesaver. It scans both sides in one pass. I am not really thrilled with the Presto bizcard 6 software. I recently went to a trade show and the amount of business cards you get is just stupid. This scanner performed well in scanning the cards… no problems feeding 12 at a time. However, the software would not allow you to swap the back for the front of the card. Everyone has fancy cards these days…it’s still a very useful application. I am very happy with this scanner. I would recommend it to anyone. I was looking into Neat receipts, but IMO this one is a better value.

Impressive little scanner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. Straight out of the box, I noticed how compact this scanner is. I like how I can put it in the very corner of my desk and it fits perfectly and isn't in the way. It has a very quick and easy set up with just three cords to connect. The accompanying instructions help with the quick setup as well as the website to download the program that you need for it to function. I like that you have the option to connect the scanner via wifi network or the standard USB connection (I chose the latter since my desktop computer is old and has issues with wifi at times). There are several things I enjoyed about this and the top of my list is how quiet and fast the scanning process is. I started off by scanning a single page and was impressed with how fast it went through. Next, I scanned a 15 page document I had for my son. It breezed right through those pages. Once scanned, it gets saved to a PDF file in my document section of my computer. It was very easy to find and rename for organization. This scanner does a beautiful job of properly scanning both black and white and color pages which is nice. I had a few pages that I removed staples from and once separated they had no issue going through. The downloaded programming has a very nice and easy to use menu which also allows you to scan to email or printer. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this scanner especially for those with small businesses like myself. I am very pleased with its performance.

Awful
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this scanner to connect with my work laptop. Strictly purchased for work reasons. When I try to scan and I want to attach to an email I get a constant hanging that says analyzing. This goes on for 20 minutes before it lets me attach to an email. 4 calls in total with one call with customer service that was 3 hours long that I conferenced in my companies IT rep. My companies IT rep says software conflict with epson software and windows 10. Also first level of customer service is not knowledgeable at all asked me what USB cord I was using and I said the one that came with it and you have ink? I said it's a scanner!! They also need to change the constant loop with shaquille o'neal yelling for Henry to pick up this call...after an hour being on hold that is ANNOYING! Returning ASAP!!!

Not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This scanner may be good for simple home use, but it does not work well for scanning daily or important documents for reprinting. Connection issues
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Almost everything in my house is wireless that can be and we can't get this to connect. After 4 hours of working with the wife support and epson support we were told we need to get a USB hub and connect it that way and then (fingers crossed) we can connect wirelessly. Why is this one device different from everything else? Only buy if want to also buy a USB hub.

Outstanding!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, before we get into the review, I would like to say that this is for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. With that noted, I would also like to mention that this is my true, completely unbiased opinion about this scanner. With that said, I would like to start off my review by saying that I was extremely impressed with this scanner. Some of the things that I really liked about this scanner are: -Its design and build. Some scanners are extremely clunky and cheap looking and feeling, but this one screams high-quality. Not only is it small when it's being used, but it folds up into an even smaller, sleeker looking body, which makes it perfect for any desk at the office or at home, especially if the desk isn't especially large. This is a huge plus for me. -How easy it is to use. Although the initial setup process is relatively cumbersome (I'll get more into that later), when everything is set up it's a breeze to use. Every time I needed to scan supply lists, resource sheets, etc., all I had to do was get on my computer, open the Document Capture Pro software, slide the document into the scanner, and click "Scan." This is all thanks to its wireless connectivity. And what I love even more is it's seamless integration with third-party note-taking and cloud storage options, such as Evernote, OneDrive, and Google Drive. With a process as seamless as that, scanning important documents and saving/sending them wherever they need to be is a breeze! While the positives drastically outweigh the negatives, there are still some to consider. Some of the things that I didn't really like about this scanner are: -How long it takes to initially set up the software to the printer. When I first downloaded all of the software required to use the printer, it took quite a while to get through the installation process and to actually install on the computer. This was pretty frustrating, but since it's only the initial setup, it's really not a big deal in my opinion. However, what is a big deal is... -How much software installed on your computer. I believe this is what causes the initial installation to take so long, but after it installs, you'll notice that there are now NINE new programs listed in your start menu, located in THREE folders. I get that the manuals and guides and software updaters are useful at times, but why not just include all of that within ONE program? That would make using it much easier, and it wouldn't clutter up the programs list nearly as much. Overall, this Epson Workforce ES-500W document scanner is outstanding. With the exception of the two negatives listed, this scanner is nearly perfect. I highly recommend it for small businesses, people who work at home, or people who need to scan documents on a regular basis. You won't regret it!

Good scanner for those with a lot of paperwork
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before providing my review, please note the following: This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. In a nutshell, this is the type of scanner you want if you deal with a lot of paperwork you need to save on your computer or up into the cloud. The first thing I noticed once I unpacked this Scanner was that it is small and lightweight. Space wise not much surface area is taken up so this Scanner fits pretty easily wherever you need it to be. It also has a nice "fold-over" feature where the Scanner closes over itself when it is not in use. Scanning is really simple once the machine is setup. Now there is an issue that bothers me software wise, but I won't harp on it too much. Epson wants you to get their scanning software to use with the machine. However, once you use the Document Capture Pro to scan a document, the resolution is not very good. Once the batch is saved as a PDF, then it is very clear once opened in something like Adobe. This may be nitpicking, but I thought there was an issue with the scanning ability of the 500W at first. Now that I have gotten my gripe out of the way, one thing I love is how fast you can go through scans if you leave the resolution low. This is useful if you are just doing text documents. Colored documents that you want all the details needs a higher resolution and takes a few seconds longer, but that is understood. Keep in mind too that when you load several pages on top that the bottom page is always read first. BUT!... I love that this machine can scan both sides at once without needing to flip the page or reload. I like this Scanner for getting a lot of paperwork saved. I think a person who has a business would really benefit from this or someone who has a lot of personal files they want to backup would find this a dream. Pros: 1) Nice and compact. 2) Quiet. 3) Pretty fast depending on settings Cons: 1) Not easy setup with Epson's network tool <HINT! Just use WPS pairing on your modem or router. Worked easy for me> 2) Once the machine is out of use the power button blinks, which is distracting.

Excellent product, it's a must for business owners
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Epson ES-500W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review. I am a technology savvy and like to use new products to ease my life and this scanner does its job fantastic. You start by downloading Epson DocumentScan for Android or ios and from that point on follow the instructions to setup the ES-500W scanner. It is very easy to set it up, but keep in mind everyone mileage may vary. You can share your work/office documents over multiple devices plus the device scans document fast. This scanner can handle from IDs to legal document and it won’t sweat at all. On average, this scanner scans 32-35 pages per minutes. The ES-500W does have Wi-Fi built in, but it's not fast enough to be really useful. Yes, you can scan directly to the Google Drive, Dropbox, or to a phone. It's just slow, I hope a software update can improve performance. I have 100 Mbps down/up, yet it takes a while to show up on a phone or cloud. Honestly, this is true for all scanners. I have hp AIO printer and scanner, and that has same problem. This scanner comes with USB 3.0 cables, so if you have a laptop or desktop, which supports USB 3.0/3.1 you can get the scanner full speed, so no more waiting around for document to pop up in the app or the cloud. This scanner is a serious contender to be #1 in this category. The controls on the scanner are simple and self-explanatory. The benefit of getting this over others are #1 wireless, #2 easy to setup, learn and use, #3 wide range of service supported, #4 CMOS sensor, which provides high quality scans. This machine is a workhorse, and can handle anything you throw at it. I recommend it!
