I have used and discarded many printers. A couple printed well, but used to many cartridges (expensive). Some printers did one job well, but were lacking overall.
The Epson ET 4550 performed as advertised as soon as I plugged it in. Set up was painlessly simple.
This printer works!

It's easy to set up and print things.Lot's of ink just use latex gloves when pouring the ink. It will get on your hands. Page printing is good for home use. If you have a business and are in a hurry this is not for you.

I love this printer. My old printer used ink cartridges that were quite expensive each time they needed to be replaced. This Epson printer seemed like a good solution to that problem. It was easy to set up, and connected immediately to all my computers and mobile devices through my home wifi system. I would have liked a secondary paper tray for photos, but I don't print that many of those so it's not a big deal. The quality of printed text is excellent, and images are good with nice color reproduction. The purchase price is not cheap, but I'll save money in the long run due to savings on ink.

Love the savings on ink! But, the Paper tray does not hold enough for bulk printing. If you need something quick....this machine is slow. Again this is something I can make adjustments for, when saving this much on ink!!

It was very easy to setup and I'm happy with the print quality, but I'm using it in my basement (where it is somewhat noisy anyway).
I would not want this printer in a quiet office (like mine).

Great Ink Tanks

I love the ink tanks on this printer as we spend so much on ink. The printer though is missing a rear tray for loading envelopes or specialty paper which means you have to unload the main tray to print on something different each time. Speaking of the main tray - it is small, so this printer is not going to work for large volume printing. Great 2-sided printing. A bit load compared with others - but a fairly compact size. On the whole a versatile printer.

We have been using a laser printer to print our packing slips because of the low cost per page. Even though the cost of the printer is much higher initially, we believe that the cost per print is low enough to recoup that cost. And we are able to provide color packing slips and invoices. So far we have run a couple thousand sheets through it and we are still on the first set of inks that came with it. This would not be an economical choice for someone who didn't Print a lot.

This printer is very easy to use. I have use it for 2 months. So far so good. It is ideal to use all in one for PC and tablets. No need to use wire or cable, it is convenient put it anywhere in house and print it wireless.

I am a preacher and I use this printer to print our Sunday bulletin sin color. I used a color laser printer before this and it cost me $600 a year. Now I'm estimating that the new cost based on two months of printing will be about $50 or less per year. If you're looking for a decent printer to print lots of color text this printer will really save you money. The only drawback is the paper feed sometimes it picks up more than one sheet of paper and it will not do duplex printing with legal size paper which is what I use. But for me that's not a big deal to take the paper out and put it back in and print the second page.

Printer is great, easy set up easy to use and ink goes as far as Epson says. Quality of prints are great as well. I am sure the extra money spent ahead of time equals buying ink but this saves having to worry of running out.

Really quick. This printer was a breeze to set up. I had zero issues loading the ink tanks and did not spill a drop. It's connected via Wi-Fi and I haven't had a problem printing from many of my devices.

I have been waiting for this type of printer fo such a long time unlimited color ink. so far its great but there is a few issues 1. watch for color printing to streak or dry up which will require head cleaning. 2.I think print heads will dry faster so i recomend to print full page color copy of a picture you like, once a week if unit is not used every day to avoid this. other wise this is a great printer........

I waited a few months after this came out so I could read other reviews. While it's not as good printing photos as my laser printer, it's a lot cheaper/page for color and b&w than my laser printer. I would likely have had to replace my 4 laser cartridges (~ $280) for the printing I've done to date, and none of the ink 'wells' are even half-empty. Highly recommended for every day printing and then some.

I love this printer. It prints double sided, accurate colors, and best of all, inexpensive ink. It is not great at scanning as the scanner is single sided and slow. Software on the computer shows the images to help put the document back together, but the images are small and difficult to read (could really do with a way to enlarge the window and the image). If you are not scanning a lot of double sided documents, this printer is well worth the money.

The pictures are spectacular and I love being able to print from anywhere to my printer at home. The only not so good thing I have to say is that I cannot get the printer to print a different size picture than the size of the paper in the tray. I think its prolly an operator error though. Hoping I will figure it out. Cant print a 3X5 or 5X7 on 8X10 paper

We researched this on Consumer Reports and it appears that this is a good value due to the deep ink wells. I have been using the color a lot and the ink has hardly gone down at all. It is a little difficult to figure out how to adjust for different sizes of paper but once you experiment a little it gets easier. Holds good amount of paper.

It's great being able to put this printer any where in my house and be able to print. I can also print from a queue from my cell phone. Most impressive is the massive amount of color and monochrome prints I expect to get from this printer. The up front cost of this printer was a bit high, however, with all the low cost prints I'll get, the printer will be certainly worth the purchase price.

I purchased this printer to replace an old HP all-in-one.
The eco-tank feature is pretty cool. I purchased additional ink with the printer but I won't need to use it for quite a while: they don't skimp you at all on the initial ink that is included. Pouring the ink in takes some care so that you don't spill or splash it.
Connection is easy, though I haven't tried the direct from a cell phone or ipad feature yet.
The (free) software downloads are elaborate from Epson's site. Get the big package for your main computer; others, like for the kids, can be just the printing & scanning programs as necessary.
Printing so far is fine. I've only printed photos on regular paper so far for personal cards - not on photo paper yet. Maybe the colors will burst out better when I use better paper (and mess with settings) but from what I've heard, if you want serious photo prints then go with a Canon instead. If you want all-around use, with low cost of ownership over time, then it seems that this printer will be a good choice.
