Good product but clunky software

Epson makes good printers. The hardware of this product is no exception. It also has the Fax option so make sure that you are setting up close to a phone jack.
First, this is ideally for a home-office set-up. It has a bit more weight and feels solid though a bit too plasticky if I am being honest. The touchscreen lcd is good.
Secondly, the set-up was just too time consuming for a mixture of reasons. The packing was intense. A lot of blue tape had to be taken out. A lot. The physical part of the set-up was intuitive but just takes a while. After you take out the tapes, you plug the printer in, put in the ink, and it initiates the ink for 5 minutes. You are then prompted to use the CD. My desktop has a CD drive so that helped. If your computer does not have a CD drive then you need to download the software. Downloading the app on your phone may be a better idea. I will tell you why.
The software interface out of the CD is clunky; it reminded me of those interfaces that came with the CDs of Windows 2000/XP. And, after a while it throws out problems that may give the regular person headaches. I cannot imagine a regular guy loving the option of a static MAC address or something else. During my case, the CD interface was clueless about the what was prohibiting it from connecting to the WiFi network. It asked me to take some steps that I really did not need to take.
Imp: if your wireless setup hits a roadblock, simply use the physical lcd interface on the printer and type in your wireless network name (it should have that in the list anyway) and then type in the WiFi password. That worked quickly. Immediately the network interface through the CD could find the printer as well and the rest worked out like a charm. Honestly, the competitors have a more user friendly experience of connecting through and to the network. The interfaces are simply better. However, the mobile apps are spot on for Epson and should be easy to use.
Print quality is great. However, the paper cassette looks and feels clunky and it was a struggle to set it up properly. It simply will not print if the cassette is not in order (which is same with all printers).
Once the printer was connected to the network it worked wonderfully. I tried to see it through all the mobile devices in our home network and they all worked fine even without the app. The only exception was an old device that needed me to download the Epson app. The printer sleeps after a while and disappears from the network. You need to wake it up to do wireless printing.
In 2020, the reputable printer companies will give out efficient products that will print and print well. Simple. But, in 2020, the software use experience, should be less clunky. A regular consumer should not have worry about the variations of their computer’s MAC address or the intricate configurations of their home network. This is a constructive criticism and I hope Epson listens.
