Latest firmware update disables the use of non-Eps

I’ve purchased this printer about 6 months ago and it has been working well. I’ve used both Epson ink cartridges as well as generic cartridges from a 3rd party (about ½ the cost of the Epson cartridges) with good results. However, in March of 2023 Epson pushed out and automatically installed a firmware update to the device that now PREVENTS non-Epson print cartridges from being used. This caused my perfectly working printer to immediately stop working until I purchased and installed a new set of Epson print cartridges and disposed of all the stock of generic cartridges I had previously purchased. This change is particularly troublesome in that Epson provided absolutely NO information on the contents of the firmware update before it was automatically installed. It INTENTIONALLY disables a key feature on which I based my original purchase of the printer – the availability of ink cartridges from multiple sources. After spending several hours on the phone with Epson support yesterday, they also indicated they have consciously decided NOT to provide any way to roll back to the previous version of the firmware. In other words, once the firmware update is installed going forward the printer will ONLY accept Epson print cartridges. Potential customers should be aware of this newly enforced limitation of the printer as well as (in my opinion) the un-professional business practice used by Epson to enforce this change. Given what I know now, I would not recommend purchasing this printer.

This was super easy. Ordered at home and was able to pick the printer up within the hour. The pickup took 5 minutes, long enough for the CSR to grab the printer.

    DON'T BUY!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

DO NOT BUY!!! Besides expensive ink, this printer is frustrating. The paper cassette keeps jamming. The scan / fax tray is useless. My printer does not allow me to fax or scan more than two pages at a time without the paper getting caught between the tray and the lamp. Printer keeps disconnecting from my computer, I have to set it up every couple of weeks. I never leave reviews but I am so upset at this machine, I don't want other people to go through what I am going through. I purchased this printer about 7 months ago and I can't take it anymore. I am going back to HP.

Works fairly well but it'll ONLY print black if you have all of the color slots full; even if you're trying to print black only. It should register independent of each color selection.

Constant Paper Jam withEpson Workforce Pro WF-3820

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this printer in Apr 2021. Lousy printer. Gave me so many problems in printing. Paper would constantly jam up several times a week with paper in the back...not 1 page but 4 to 5 pages at a time. Very difficult getting the jammed paper out from the back. Now the printer is programmed that it will not take ink other than Epson Ink. Piece of plastic junk. Never again will I buy a Epson printer.

The item I received has come defected as conclusion of my interaction with the printer and customer support. The experience you will live start upon plugging, and Power On, follow the guided setup on the screen consisting of Language, Country/Region, Daylight Saving Time, Date Format, Enter Date, Time Format, Enter Time, then move to Processing to land Information warning box. This last provide guidance on how ton insert cartridge. Following instruction, open the cover, and the Ink cartridge holder doesn't move to replacement position. Attempted several work around, and to the point of calling customer service. However, customer service technical support was giving questions around without specific pinpoint of issue that at then didn't help to solve it. Customer support was repeatedly asking same question for answers given already many time and same, still asking the same question. Hence this part become review of bad customer service or knowledge. Back to the printer, it get stucked in the information warning message box without allowing to continue such to either install the cartridge or move to menu to at least connect to internet. Reviewing the printer further, and comparing to the image from epson website, it appears the LCD screen supposed to have Home Button and another button. But the version received doesn't have it. Hence I reached to dead end, and not able to use and spend 20 min on the phone, and couple hours throughout 3 days to make it work without result. In the photo attached the holder that doesn't move, and the screen state of the LCD.

    Unforgiving return policy

The WorkForce Pro WF-3820 was recommended to me by a friend, after another printer I had wanted was on back order. It came quickly and my friend helped me install it. However, it did not print photos well and would sometimes print a single page document onto 5 separate pages. Due to your 15 day return policy, I missed the deadline and the only alternative now is to contact the manufacturer Epson.

Holds customers hostage to buy their ink !!

this printer wouldn't allow you to print in black and white if any one of the color ink cartridges are empty !!! TERRIBLE way to constrain your clients -- hold them hostage to buy more ink. I'll buy someone else's product who doesn't rip off their customers.
