Not much more than ink marketing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I put up with the constant beeping and jumping through all the hoops to print black and white documents thinking maybe they should pay me to use their printer just so I have to buy their ink. The color ink must evaporate quickly because I don't print color and already the second set of color cartridges is long gone after 16 months. Now that my elderly father wants a copy of his airline ticket that he can hold in his hand, it won't print at all for me without buying ink I don't need or want. It couldn't have been worse timing. I know it's my fault. I should have bought the ink when they told me to. Pitiful that some people are actually thinking that.

Won't print anymore after setting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this printer. The only problem that I had was when I let it set for one month because it had run out of ink and I have to go some more. When I put the ink in i could not get it to print any more. It was not a year old.

Decent printer that lasts 2 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this printer in December 2016. It has lasted two years, but now has printing problems. Stripes are seeing due to the bidirectional printhead not printing evenly in each direction.

Your joy will turn sour soon enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product when it was on sale. $99 down from $180. I needed a new printer to replace my old one so I figured this was as good as any. I was right at first. It was a major upgrade from my old machine. But that was when the cons started popping up everywhere. First, the ink cartridges. They are small, no bigger than a dozen credit cards stacked on top of each other. They use ink quickly and if you print a handful of color documents a day, you'll be out of ink in a few weeks. Second, the ink usage. More specifically, even if you choose to print in black and white, you will notice over time the ink levels in your other cartridges going down. Even in black and white, the machine actually uses your color ink, which I find absurd. Which brings me to my biggest criticism of all: black and white printing. Let's say you use up the last of the ink in your cyan cartridge. No big deal, you just decide to print in black and white. You can't. The printer won't do it. Even if you want to print a document in black and white, if one or more of your colored ink cartridges are out of ink, you cannot print in black and white. That was a tipping point for me. They lowered the ability of their machines in order to sell more ink cartridges. That is where I draw the line. There are other flaws (slow printing compared to other printers, low paper tray capacity, if your printer is on and you're missing a cartridge it will beep very loudly and warn you every 5 minutes) but that was the big one for me. Not only do I not recommend this Epson product, I do not recommend any of them.

Don't buy this printer. Ink Guzzler
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer guzzles ink. It has cost me a fortune although it was recommended by a Best Buy salesman who I trusted (gave me good service in the past). In addition, when you want to make a copy it takes forever because it automatically assumes you want it double sided.

Epson printer replaced
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best Buy was very helpful when this printer had a problem and they replaced it at their cost. The replaced printer was installed by the Geek Squad and it is now working very good.

Died after almost 2 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer was a workhorse for almost 2 years until it died one day when we turned it on, go the error code ox97. If you're going to buy this printer get the protection plan its worth it. The printer would of gotten 5 stars if not for the code.

Out of paper or paper jam
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this printer fro approximately two years. When it works, the print quality is good. The problem is at least once ever couple of months I get error message Out of paper or paper jam. When I check there is no paper jam nor is the printer out of paper. The message directed me to load paper into tray two. If I load paper in tray two it will print. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, then the printer will in most cases work, however not in all cases. I wouldn't recommend this printer to anyone.

Do not even think about buying this machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Epson 3640 is one thirsty machine. I am not a heavy user but my ink bill soon swamped my purchase price. It uses an amazing amount of colored ink considering most of my printing was black only. After around 8 months the print quality became unacceptable. The helpline walked me through numerous head cleaning/nozzle checks over a two day period. The result was a slight improvement in print quality but the lines are around 5 degrees above horizontal! It prints at a slant! Unbelievable! The desk admits it is a hardware problem, and I have since found other similar reviews online. I should have done my homework. I hope this helps you in that regard.

Lemon
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It made a harsh grinding noise and displayed an unspecified error code(I researched the code) when I tried to set it up. There was no packing material or other obvious obstruction at the carriage and no paper jam. Looks like I can't get rid of my crooked scanning HP OfficejetPro8600 Plus just yet.

13 month failure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this printer because my son was just starting college and we needed a multi function in the house for photo copying and printing. Decided to give this 3540 Epson a try as it was on sale and the ink looked reasonable coming from an HP version. The unit worked great for 13 months then it started giving the 0x97 error. We worked on it for days with Epson support and at the end, they just said to buy a new one. So I'm going back today to buy an HP again.

Ink eater / Non-affordable / Too loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I reviewed this printer online and it showed as the most saving printer in the market, but this is an ink eater, there is no way to afford the ink if you need to print regularly. Also it´s loud, and giving errors all the time, wants to update frecuently. It´s not what I expected. I have to buy another one. I waited too much to return it. I´m dissapointed. NO MORE EPSONS!!!

3 tried, 3 failed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had terrible experience with this printer, and I can tell you it wasn't just a fluke - I got a sample of 3 of them. I first bought this printer and it worked great for a few months, printing quite a bit. Then it started doing this banding effect with the magenta ink, which rendered the printer useless for color prints. I called Epson tech support and after a total of maybe a couple hours on the phone trying different solutions, they sent me a new one (since it was still under warranty). Well, that one arrived, and the thing didn't even power on successfully. It errored out as soon as it booted up and tried to configure itself, probably another hardware problem with the carriage. So after more time on the phone with Epson (with two broken printers sitting in my den), they sent me a third one. Like the first, this one worked well for a couple months, then it began printing bands. I'm not even going to call them this time - I'm done with this printer and probably with Epson forever.
