The Escort Max 360c MK II is a great tool for someone that has that need for speed sometimes. I have been using this for a few days now and this thing has saved me a few times. I can honestly say that this device will pay for itself by saving you from getting tickets. So, lets go over some of the features and the Pros and Cons of the new Escort Max 360c MKII. Unboxing and Set: In the box you will receive the radar detector, the smart power cable, the magnetic windshield mount and a nice carrying case if you need to switch vehicles. The unit is ready to go pretty much out the of the box. Simply plug in the power cable mount the unit to the windshield with the provided mount and get to cruising. Since I use do a combination of local and highway driving on my commute to work, I left the unit on Auto mode, and it performed just fine. You do have the option of using other modes such as Highway or city driving, I just find it easier to leave it on auto and it works just fine. So, this is where I ran into my first issue. Supposedly, you can connect this radar detector to the “Drive Smarter” app which allows you to access alert and radars signals picked up by other users but for the life of me I could not get this thing to connect to my phone. I tried everything in my power to get this thing to and nothing worked. I even tried to connect the radar to my laptop and update the software that way and to see if that help but even after that I was not able to connect this radar to the “Drive Smart” application. At this point I had given up on getting the radar detector connected to my phone and its application. However, I was able to skip the setup process on the app and was able to still see where other users were marking their reports. Overall, the setup and usage without the application is simple. Features: Defender Database: Redlight / Speed Camera Locations and Alerts – I tested this feature on a red-light camera by my house and it worked beautifully. A traffic signal and audible alert warns you of the camera ahead. You can also add speed and red right cameras and speed traps with the unit itself and the application. Detector Bands: Laser, X-Band, K-Band, Ka Photo Radar, Ka Wideband Radar, Pop Mode Radar and City and Highway mode. 360 Degree Awareness with Directional Alerts Range: Now this is probably the most important factor. I tried to find out what the range on this unit was, but I was unable to. Although, the unit was able to pick up a radar from a trooper from almost 700 feet away, giving me enough time to safely slow down. False Alerts: Comparing this radar to my previous model, I did notice a lot less false alerts. My older radar detector was pretty much picking up anything and everything to the point that it was pretty much useless. The Escort Max 360c MKII also has auto learn feature. What this does is once it learns your route it starts to weed out all the false alert locations. I had started out with about 5 false alerts on my commute and now am down to about 2 on in about 2 days. Dual Band WIFI and Over the Air Updates (if you can get it connected) PROS: • Voice Alerts • A lot less false alert • Range • Early warning • Good Quality Build • Red light and Speed Camera alerts • 360 Degree Coverage with directional alerts • WIFI and OTA update (when it works) CONS: • Unable to pair the radar unit to my phone • Coiled power cable Overall, the radar detector itself is a pretty good unit, it has performed well and has save me a bunch of times. This unit will pretty much pay for itself if you have a heavy foot. I was pretty bummed about not being able to pair the unit to my phone because it seems to be advertised as one of its main features but was still able to use unit and it did what I was meant to do, so I can’t be too upset. Hopefully, this connectivity issue can be corrected in the future updates. I would recommend that you check out the new Escort Radar Detector.

I have used an Escort or Passport most of my adult life and I am yet to have one fail me. Upgrading from my existing Passport 9500i to this Escort Max 360c MKll has been an interesting experience. There is no doubt that the detection level of Max 360 and its ability to indicate the direction of the radar is a major improvement however there are a few things that took some time to get used to. The display on the Max 360 is recessed for better viewing in sunlight but its not very bright even on its highest setting. The alert tones on the Max 360 are not nearly as loud even on the loudest setting. Because the tones of the alert are distinctive you can still pick them up even when playing music at a decent volume but again its not as alerting. The voice alert built into the Escort was clear and helped when radar was detected. Over the past week of my commuting the Max 360 has picked up alerts at a farther distance than my old Passport but it goes from slow alert to fast alert much quicker whereas the Passport would slowly increase from slow alert to fast alert. Going to fast alert quickly made me much more alarmed but I am not sure that it was always necessary. The Auto learn feature worked great and by day three it has learned all the false alarms and stayed quiet through my drive. After a week plus of driving I am happy with the detector and its capabilities. Sadly the Drive Smarter app was a major disappointment. Luckily the Escort’s performance is not impacted by the poor performance of the Drive Smarter app. The app had trouble finding and then keeping connectivity with the Escort. If I stopped at a gas station and went inside to get something the app would not reconnect automatically with the Escort when I got back in the car. The Over Speed alert was set at 10mph over the limit but the app would always alert as soon as I went over the speed limit vs 10mph over the limit. The Escort display shows your current speed and with the Drive Smarter app it also shows the speed limit along side of it. Because my car’s navigation already does this it wasn’t that big of an enhancement. Overall the frustration with app isn’t enough to convince me to switch from Waze which does mostly the same thing without having to be connected to the Escort. Installing the Escort in the car was simple using the windshield mount. The mount felt solid and the magnetic base allows you to install or remove the detector without much effort. I installed the Drive Smarter app on my iphone and was able to upgrade the firmware of the detector as well as set up the wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Within the app I was able to configure/view the numerous Escort settings. Because of the numerous issues I had with the app I spent a limited time using it.

I was supper excited about the Escort Max 360c MKII. I am coming from another radar unit that I truly love but wanted another one for my spouses car so I would not need to switch back and forth with the single detector (which is a pain). And the Escort Max 360c MKII has some really cool features that my other radar did not have! First off I got it and opened the box. It comes with a case that zips up the side and is a soft shell. I wish it would have been a hard shell or at least reinforced shell. When storing it the soft shell does not give it a lot of protection. Why does that matter you might ask? Well leaving an premium radar on the dash for all the world to see can lead to a smashed car window and a missing radar detector! I like to remove the unit and store in the case in my center console or under the seat or even in the trunk on over night hotel stays. I plan to buy a better case for it…problem solved easy enough. It’s an ok case though. The physical set up of the Escort Max 360c MKII. is as easy at it can be. I really like the suction cup and it stays put on the windshield! I like that the Escort Max is flat and the bulk of the coupling is all on the suction cup base which makes the Escort sleek and super easy to seat and unseat. My other radar detector takes some wiggling, and coercing to make a solid coupling. Seating the Escort is smooth as butter which again is important to me because I don’t like to leave it out when I’m parked in public. The power cable is the perfect length as well from the car outlet so there is not a ton of excess wire cluttering up my center console! I also like that the power chord is curly near the outlet plug but when it gets close to the actual detector is is a single thin wire which gives it clean lines. Ok. So I had it all set up and was ready to drive…and drive fast with confidence! The first day…I did not get a single alert….hummmm….Not normal. Now if you have a detector you know they are notorious for false signals from automatic store front doors, other car radar sensors for crash avoidance etc and some stop lights…well on the Escort Max…crickets. I first thought that maybe it was so smart that my other unit was just always picking up false signals. I knew that was not the case though because I verified the alerts and saw the cop a few seconds later! Escort Max 360c MKII advertises that it has IVT filter which reduces store doors and other cars etc. So maybe, maybe there just wasn’t any cops about? I spent the first day pondering and randomly trying to push settings in the app. The only thing that seemed to be working was the “over speed” warning, which I hate…I know I am over the speed…that’s why I have the radar detector!!! I have a friend who is a motor cop at the local Police department, and I asked him to paint me up with his LiDAR and radar and nothing!!! I played around with the app in the setting, and it did not seem to change anything. It was like the App (which is called Drive Smarter) was not synced to the Escort… but it was partially at least because it showed me on the map in the app driving around and it knew the posted speed limits via the app. Strange, this could also be because it is a brand-new unit and they still have to work out some bugs in the bios and app maybe? TIME TO READ THE MANUAL!!! I hate tech that is not so intuitive that I can’t just figure it out by pressing buttons. To be fair though, the escort max has so many settings (if you want to deep dive) that it would be hard to create a “simple” interface to access them all. I would not want to be the person who had to design that. But I think sometimes Programmers get to comfortable in their own heads about what is intuitive and what isn’t. They need to have a lay person run through the beta and they should watch and then program to get a better out of the box experience for the user. But I digress. So I tried to go to the website the quick start guide says to go for the manual. Well the link did not work!!! Crazy! So I found it though a general web search. It’s 26 pages and it was a big help. Apparently when I got my unit it had all the bands X,K,KA etc all defaulted to off for some reason!!! It was also defaulted to “novice” user which limits some of the customizability of the unit. You must change it to “advanced” to utilize all the customizability of the unit…which is what makes it GREAT…why default it to basic when advanced is what makes this baby awesome! The “Quick” start guide stated how “easy” it was to set up and go! This was not the case for me. Which left me on a sour note from the get go!!! So once I understood how to navigate to all the settings and was able to get in there and and turn all the bands full sensitivity customize the read out so I can see what bands are hitting me and the strength at which they are hitting me…..I really turned it on for the first time in a sense… it WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! X BAND band hit behind me low strength…K band to my left moderate strength and KA band from the front strong…. I felt like I was in a fighter jet… All that intel and data as I cruised along. Really awesome! Took me a few days to find the sweet spot that I liked but all the options were so much geek fun! I drove through a notorious speed trap area and BAM!! two KA band hits with different strengths and sure enough I was able to spot two different cops. The 360 aspect and the strength of the hit combined with less false positives were just amazing! It is odd though because compared to my other unit it is a lot quieter (alerts sounding)..which makes me worried that it’s not working or something…but seeing those solid KA hits…. I know The Escort knows what it is looking for and doesn’t spook me with all the false alerts. Even so I run with the max sensitivity on. After playing around I landed on set up I like best: I set it to the “highway” sensitivity . That gives you full sensitivity. Why did’t they just say full sensitivity instead of highway? They also have an “auto” sensitivity which reduces the X and K band based on the speed of the vehicle. This is nice if you don’t want all the data coming at you full throttle. Some people just want a single solid hit and then quiet the rest of the time. You can have that with the Escort Max 360c MKII. as well. - next tweak I changed was changing the meter mode to “expertFR” - this gives you “4 alert bands with front and rear signal strength bar graphs” found on page 14 of the manual. I really enjoyed spending some time checking out the other meter graphs though. - I killed the KA-POP. Too many false alerts for my taste. The KA-POP alert is a type of radar tech that makes it hard for detectors to tell if a cop is painting them or not by sending small short blasts of radar at a car to confuse the detector. I noticed I was getting a ton of “POP” Alerts, but I think it was other cars or remnants of store automatic doors signals. I have yet to get a POP alert that correlated to seeing a police officer. Now the app. It’s easy to connect to and it seems like it syncs well because you can see the map and you can flag traps and other people can do that as well and share the intel, but I did not see any of that. I live is a city of about 300,000 people so maybe in bigger cities this is more helpful. The app itself has two settings choices in it. One setting is for all the app settings and then you can click on the “device” settings which should…should allow you to change options on the device itself by using the app. This was spotty at best for me. I would make changes …i.e over speed limit warning and it would not change it on the device. I found it best to just make the changes on the unit itself. At least I know it is made for sure. But even then after turning off the over speed warning when syncing it all up it seemed to default back to alerting me about the over speed. Frustrating! Some of those setting could be changed in the app but some didn’t seem to change unless I went into the device itself. I hope the app gets better over time. I really torn…I want to give the hardware a 5 for sure but the app really needs some work!!! Over all the hardware is amazing! I love the directional and multi band section and that the info is displayed so nicely on the screen. It’s truly amazing….but the app is not very good… It’s not horrible …. just not on par with just how amazing the hardware is. Set up was not easy but getting into the weeds is totally worth it for the customizability. Gonna go with 4 stars. If you want the best hardware out there and can deal with a weak app…this is an awesome choice. I will probably tune it up the way I like and ditch the app. Which will keep me driving fast…with confidence!

Well, this is gonna be a weird review. This radar detector is great, but not perfect. This thing is very sensitive and will pickup a lot of signals that isn't necessary police's but it'll get the job done. For 700$, it is a lot but Id say its worth it.

It’s a decent radar detector. It will update the database occasionally when it’s connected to WiFi, there’s an app to use with it but idk if it affects the accuracy of the device. It has picked up Ka band alerts when I’ve seen no visible threat, so I’m not sure why that’s happened. Sometimes there is no alert when I’ve seen cops sitting there, but I’m not sure if they’re running radar or just being a visual reminder for drivers. It works better than the Uniden garbage I had and it has alerted me when there are cops scanning. I’m happy that it’s given me some peace of mind. Oh, one day the phone jack locking tab randomly snapped off on it.

Thank you for your review and for choosing Escort! It seems you may be receiving a reported KA-band threat through the app . You can report the threat as not being there. It is also important to note that police vehicles may not always have radar running. Radar must be in use in order for the detector to provide an alert. So far so good with this device. I have owned one for 2 weeks now, after trading up to this one following the purchase of another brand radar detector that died after 5 days of use. I have used this on 2500 miles of driving through 6 states and it worked as intended where radar was being shot. It gave "air patrol" warnings for areas where reports were gathered for that activity. It has been recommended that you do consistent firmware updates on the device for GPS updating. The proprietary software that connects to this is sketchy - either Escort Live or Drive Smarter, both Escort systems. It is only as good as the reporting that people participate with and send in, like Waze, except you are dealing with a much smaller community of people that are running with only Escort branded radar detectors. It may serve well in more populous areas, but the better strategy is to run Waze in addition to using the physical device. Here is a great idea, Escort: Partner with Waze on the software integration to the devices, and get an advertising deal for your products in there with Waze users. My 2 cents. The device is pricey - I will judge it's value in time to see if it can live up to it's potential.
