    Great Detector, App has issues

As a Connoisseur of tickets (read ticket magnet) I had to get something or go broke. I don’t speed or condone speeding, but I just don’t keep my eye on my speed until I see a Police car. Then panic and stab the brake even if I’m going the speed. As a driver of Cobra’s, Boss’s, Saleen Mustangs, I have had a proverbial target on my back. So, I turned to the detector for help. But it only works if it is plugged in. My last ticket with my old detector was unplugged due to it going off on a door and bang got a ticket. Now with the MKII, no more unplugging! I will start my review with the bad first... The App that is mated with this unit, which also lets you sign up and pay for a subscription of the latest updates. DOES NOT WORK. Do not invest in this subscription until they fix the app. The instructions say to download the DRIVE SMARTER app. There are two Apps available from Escort, The aforementioned and the Escort live drive smarter app. The app currently has 1.5 stars rating in the Play store for Android. This should have been a clue, and apparently according to the support area on Escorts site the MKII is not yet listed as being compatible but the advertising for the MKII says it is?? So maybe this is the main issue. But why plaster is on the box and advertise it when it is not working? I installed the Drive Smarter App and followed the instructions to mate my detector to the phone. The phone (S22) scanned and found the unit but froze every time it tried to connect to it. I tried multiple times and even uninstalled and reinstalled it three times as well as booted the phone to no avail. I would have been upset to pay for the update service and not even be able to pair it with my phone. I googled a fix and hit up Escorts support site and they do not have a fix; the site basically just says try again or email us. Upon further looking in to the app I thought well maybe they just need an update or maybe it was broken by an update but this is not the case. The app has been getting 1-star reviews for well over a year. Sounds like Escort needs to clean house and hire capable developers to fix this. I gave up after 1 hour of trying. At this price point, one would expect nothing but perfection!! So, until the app is fixed, to get updates and firmware (current firmware is loaded as of 9/22) you will have to hit the Escort site and DL the Detector Tools. Then have the required Usb micro (not included)and hook it up to your Laptop or PC. After the App is fixed you will need a Wi-Fi hot spot or in a Wi-Fi area to complete this. On their website the App Update blog hasn’t been updated since 2021!! Now on to the good which is a lot. The Escort 360 came to my rescue, with the GPS built in and AutoLearn intelligence whereby it learns where all the false alarms are on your route and disables them after 3 passes. I just hope the police don’t read this or they will sit next to the door and use it as camouflage!! As an added bonus there are directional arrows to let you know where the signal is originating from. As a test, I mounted both the Escort and my cobra to see real world difference between the two. I quickly found the distance that the two detected known signals were apparent. My old detector would pick up a speed sign installed by a school about ¼ mile away. The MKII sensed the signal over 1 mile away and an elevation change as well. The AdvanceLearn did its job on day three, as I had driven by it multiple times and marked the location so it won’t bother me anymore. The unit will also let you manually set it up as well with a few button presses. As far as false alarms from newer vehicles, it still detects but mutes almost immediately. I’m sure I can tweak it to not do this in the future as it is usually X band, or I could change to another sensitivity (Highway, Auto, Auto no X or Auto no K lo) additionally, just make sure the unit is updated as IVT (in-vehicle-technology) detection is one of the areas covered in updates. To tweak the detector to your driving habits you have to download the Manual from the website and read through it. You are able to changed hundreds of settings or mute them, change colors, screens, actions etc. Personally, I love the speed sensor to let me know when I go over (sometimes) The detector will also have Shared unit updates via the “App” from other users who send notifications of police, accidents, hazards etc. until then the MRK button will allow you to mark issues on the road, you select the issue via the + or – button then MRK when you are done. If you are looking for a detector that’s awesome and a matching app, this is not your best option now, if they get the app fixed this should be top of your list. If you don’t care about connected phone apps. The MKII should be at the top of your list. I love it and it would have received 5 stars but at this time I can’t with the non-working app that has seen major complaints not addressed for a year. I would recommend this to friends and family after informing them of the app issue first.

Bought it before a 600 mile rd trip and returned it when I got home. Way too many BSM false alarms and what I estimate as 3-5 SECOND K-Band delays. I suspect those delays are caused by Escort's attempts to minimize the BSM falsies...but obviously they need more time to work out the technology. I got pulled over going 79 in a 70, which is slow for me. Do NOT waste your money or time with this product!

We're sorry to hear about your poor experience with MAX 360c MKII. For the best experience, make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your MAX 360c MKII (v1.2). You can check the firmware version by holding down the Mark and Mute buttons while powering the detector on. To update the firmware, connect it to a Wi-Fi hotspot. If an update is available, the detector will prompt you when it connects to the hotspot.
You can also use a mini-USB cable connected to a PC or Mac running our Detector Tools software.
Also note that enabling the K Notch setting in the detector's preferences menu will reduce K band false alerts from certain vehicle collision avoidance systems. cedarelectronics-escort

I've been using Escort products for about 15 years now and every time I upgrade to a new unit, which is not often, Im never let down. Escort seems to bring the latest tech to the table and the Escort Max 360c Mark II is no exception. Although it's packed with amazing new tech, it still could use a little polishing, especially on the connectivity. Im upgrading from the original Max 360 since I heard the new model does a better job at filtering out false alerts. Thats the one gripe I had with the old Max 360. It seemed to go off from other car's cruise or perimeter radar and there wasn't much I could do to fix it. On the outside, the new Mark II looks just the previous Max 360c unit but they changed the color pallet just a bit. It has the magnetic attachment which is absolutely amazing compared to my old 360's clip-in hanger. Im still getting used to the new placement of the alert directional arrows around the display versus the single multi-directional arrows on the original Max 360, but thats really not an issue. Inside this new Mark II is the Blackfin DSP chip which is intended to help alert you to radar faster and from farther away. I can certainly say that it does just that. I have been getting alerts and thinking they were false because the police car was farther away than I had been used to in the past. The Drive Smart app is required to connect to the new Mark II unit instead of the old Escort Live app I had been using previously. I'm using an iPhone, so I simply downloaded it from the app store and it was free to use. I believe there is an Android version as well if that is what you are looking for. The new app is very similar to the old app and offers me the ability to make a ton of adjustments to the unit so that I can tune it to my needs. There are a lot of options and honestly, I don't know what they all do and have been relying on the default settings. I did make sure to turn off the X band, as that is the pesky one that Ive always turned off with all my Escort units. I think it's connected to the false door alerts, or something. The one issue I ran into with this new unit is with connectivity. I do not drive a "connected smart car" and connecting to the unit via Wifi ended up being not possible. I tried using my iPhone's hotspot but the unit never recognized it and would only allow me to connect through my home Wifi. I couldn't do that either, as the WiFi signal is very poor in my garage. I thought I wouldn't be able to get my firmware or Defender database updates. Luckily, Escort has a new version of the Detector Tools desktop app and I can connect the unit with a USB cable to get all the updates I will need. At least I know the unit is ready for when I do decide to get a new car that has all the new in-car wifi and such. Performance wise, it was much better than the original Max 360 Im upgrading from. The alerts came to me sooner that the old model. As I mentioned earlier, I also had far fewer false alerts going off but I will say I did still receive a few. It's not perfect at filtering out false radar signals but it's certainly improving over time. Again, I love the magnetic hanger and it made connecting and disconnecting the unit from the window very easy. Sometimes it's the little things.... Overall, Im super happy with the new Escort Max 360c Mark II, even though there were a few tiny issues. It's a marked improvement from my older Max 360, it's easy to mount, and with the desktop app, easy to update ( for me anyway). I imagine I'll will own this unit for many years and when the time comes, I'll be looking to Escort yet again for its replacement.

Thank you for choosing Escort. Please note that just because you see a police vehicle, it does not mean that radar is being emitted. You're detector will provide an alert if radar/laser is being used. You also want to make sure you are mounting the detector higher up on the windshield, centered, and away from any obstructions. When I was in the market for a radar detector five years ago, the Escort Max 360C was on my short list. It had a lot of great features that made is stand out from the crowd. The Escort Max 360C came with wifi and Bluetooth, with automatic updates via the wifi connection. At that time, escort also had the patent on auto lockout which used GPS to identify signals you come across on a regular basis, such as alarms and automatic doors, and would automatically identify these areas as a non-threat. The only problem with the Escort from previous years was that it was much less sensitive to radar than some of its competitors on the market in the same, or lesser price range. I ended up with the Uniden R7 that I purchased from Best Buy and have been happy with it. Now, jump to 2022 and Escort has just come out with an updated version of the Escort MAX 360C called the Mark 2. The mark 2 series has all of the features of the previous model, but is able to do all of them much better. Escort claims that the internals of the unit are more sensitive and more powerful, providing a more than 50% increase in the detection range of the Escort MAX 360C, thus solving the only negative I had with the Escort. Also in the new mark 2, the unit is able to connect to 2.4GHZ wifi signals AND to the newer 5 GHZ wifi signals found in some newer cars. Escort has also updated its software to better filter out signals from all of the blind side sensors that many cars have now and to filter other false signals that you randomly come across to make for a much more quiet ride. It seems that everything in the MK 2 is improved over the previous model, making this particular model, one of the very best radar detection units on the market. As a side note, this detector is also compatible with many of Escorts other products such as dashcams and signal blockers, so it seems Escort is really uping its game. One other feature that Escort has is the Escort app and the Escort community. The Escort live app has user data and live information that makes the new Escort MAX an even better radar detection solution. However, I have not been successful getting this radar detector to stay connected to my truck or to escort live online through the hotspot in my 2022 Chevy HD. When it does connect, it does not display the speed limit on the roads I am on and will not connect to the Escort community. I can’t say if it is a problem with my unit or a problem across the board, but there are many people on forums who are having similar issues. Because of this issue, I am not relying on the Escort live app, only the unit itself. Even without the online community, the Escort Max 360C MK 2 has been a very capable and quiet radar detector. The new Escort MAX 360C MK2 is now my daily radar detector and will be for some time.

The new Escort MAX 360c MKII is a continued extension of the venerable MAX 360 line which in my opinion are the cream of the crop in radar detectors. I came into the MKII from the original which I had been using for about a year. The original 360c was a life saver during my stint of back and forth trips to Texas from Colorado bi-weekly. It had saved my proverbial bacon on more than one occasion as I tend to have a fairly heavy foot. The new MKII seems to be mostly a range improvement from the original which if you are buying a radar detector that is of supreme importance. It is pretty much impossible for me to ascertain if the range is really as improved as they say because the original was fantastic and this seems just as good. The unit can tell you the signal intensity, frequency, and direction it is being detected from. Please hear me when I tell you that the importance of its ability to know which direction the radar is being detected cannot be overstated. It really is fantastic and should not be missed. The radar detector can also connect to wifi or bluetooth for additional insight. The app on my iPhone works well and the only thing I run into is sometimes having to restart the unit to get it to connect to the app. Doesn't happen all the time, but it can feel like a bit of inconvenience when you don't realize it didn't connect and you have to jockey through the reconnect steps. The app brings added features such as posted speed limits to most roads and can provide overspeed warning through the unit. I have found a few roads in my subdivision that it doesn't know the speed limit on, but that isn't a deal breaker by any means. The app also crowd sources data from other users for speed traps and will alert you well in advance if one is nearby with a direction and range indicator on the actual unit screen. Overall, the latest Escort MAX 360c is among the best if not THE best radar detector on the market. Pricey sure, but my experience has been that the you get what you pay for in this area. Easy recommend and can pay for itself after a few missed calls.

Cedar Electronics has always delivered and this Escort radar detector is no exception. This model replaced on older model I had, which is also an Escort. The design is what you would expect for a radar detector. The buttons on the top are pretty straightforward and the display screen is well lit and easy to read. The installation is simple. It comes with a windshield mount and a power adapter with a built in usb port, which is nice because I don't have to worry about needing to unplug it to charge my phone. Once it is setup, I was driving like the New Yorker that I am, even though I live in Ohio now(lol). There are a lot of troopers on the interstate and they like to hide, especially at night. I got alerts for every single one of them before I even noticed them. I had plenty of time to adjust my speed and not get pulled over. I only had 2 false alerts so far which is great considering my last radar detector had a lot of false alerts on the interstate. This model is also great for driving around town because it alerts me of all the red light cameras I encounter. I honestly didn't know there were so may in my area. Guess I'm just lucky(lol) Pairing it to my phone was a pain in the butt. I was able to get it done but it disconnected a lot and I just gave up at that point. It does what I need it to do without that. All in all, this Max 360c MKii is a great product and I am happy to own it.

This is a pretty solid unit that won’t annoy you with endless false alerts - once you teach it just a bit. When you encounter an alert that you think is false, you can press the button on the smart power adapter to mute the alert. If, over a couple of trips, you mute that same alert (based on the built-in GPS) three times, the detector will add that specific location/signal combination to a ‘Stored’ list and stop alerting you every time you go past that same spot. If you encounter an alert that you know is false, you can press the smart button three times quickly to manually add that signal/location to the Stored list. Nice feature! Another thing I like is that the detector will illuminate an arrow to show you which direction the radar/laser is coming from, so you know where to start looking for the source. This feature also comes in handy when you encounter an alert that (unfortunately) is caused by another vehicle's adaptive cruise control or collision avoidance system. The first couple of times you encounter this type of false alert will definitely leave you scratching your head a bit. Nice windshield mount. Suction cup stays put & was easy to install. The coupling between the mount & detector is magnetic, with the addition of a small lip, which results in a solid connection. Drove over plenty of rough roads and didn’t have any issues whatsoever. Room for improvement: - They should include a power adapter that can use USB. Many cars today have plenty of USB ports, but only one traditional power port. If you happen to have another device that needs the traditional power, you’re stuck with having to use bulky splitters. - The power connection to the actual device uses what is most commonly used for an old-school phone handset (RJ9 connector if you want to look it up) cord. On one hand, this does make it easy to plug/unplug the unit so you don’t have to leave it out in the open just waiting for thieves. On the other hand, I work in the phone industry, so I know it’s only a matter of time until that plastic clip breaks. I’d really like to see them integrate the power connection into the magnetic windshield mount. Couple of contacts built into the mount & the top of the detector and you’d be good to go. As for the Drive Smarter app, well, it’s not even good enough to make the ‘Room for improvement’ list; they need to just scrap it & start over. The connectivity to devices (I also have a Cobra dashcam that uses the same app) is absolutely horrible. I’d like to think they’d improve the app connectivity, but I’ve had my dashcam for two years, and the connectivity was horrible then. Seriously disappointed to learn that it hasn’t improved at all. Unfortunately, the detector needs to be connected to the app if you want to take advantage of the crowd-sourced radar & traffic cam reports, and database updates, so the poor connectivity kinda negates the benefits of that feature. That being said, I did have slightly better luck using the older Escort Live app, but it hasn’t been updated since early 2019, so I’m not sure how much longer it’ll be around. Overall, I’d recommend the detector because it really shines at detecting & filtering out alerts, and the app is just kind of a bonus - if you can get it to work.
