more Fallout
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you played either Fallout 3 or New Vegas, you'll have an idea about what to expect. Yes, it's more of the same overall, with a few noticeable changes. Settlement building is the newest addition. It's a great idea, though a bit poorly implemented, requiring Perks to really taken advantage of the concept. It can be fun, however, and I definitely spent way too much time doing it. The world is massive, and it's easy to ignore the mostly forgettable main story to forge your own path in the world, which is wide open to your character, so long as they can survive. There are some poor design choices really holding the game back. Repeating radiant quests involving certain characters are more annoying than encouraging, unless the idea is to make you the player want to quit the game. Now your character is voiced, but that aspect doesn't add anything and instead detracts from how conversations are structured, and there's a to of sameness to many of the environments/locations, meaning you go in, clear it of whichever enemy type is in there, pick some locks, hack some computers, rinse, repeat. More variety in mission structure would've done a lot to alleviate the issue, but it seems like the focus is on quantity over variety. You can easily play this game with one character for over 100 hours, but I'm not so sure that's always a pro given the repetitive nature of the core gameplay mechanics. I did encounter glitches. Twice the game quit with an error message, but I didn't lose much because I saved often (seriously, save often). I also had some audio loop bug that just kept repeating, which was solved by quitting the game to the main menu. Funny how stuff like that works sometimes. There are some other minor problems. The framerate can seriously stutter at later points in the game when Vertibirds are around, or just when a large number of enemies are encountered. Or just because. Some of these problems will probably be ironed out at some point. Overall, it's a great game that is perhaps a bit too ambitious for its own good.

So much to do
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm so happy that the wait for the next Fallout is over. The graphics are crazy good and the story, as always, is top notch. There is so much to do outside of the main story that I get side tracked all the time. It's just so fun. All of my buddies play this as well and agree that this is a fantastic, must have game.

Immersive Gameplay
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first booted up the game, the whole atmosphere and ambiance brought me in. I didn't even worry about the objectives, all I wanted to do was roam around the beautiful world. Now the amount of things to do is almost overwhelming but there is always something to do.

Theres a lot to love about this game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If all games were made with the quality and scale of fallout 4 there would pretty much be no such thing as a bad game. This game is outright amazing and the world is massive and it isn't just an empty world with nothing to do either there are lots and lots and lots of things to do. There are hundreds of items you can craft, you can have companions, there are hundreds of missions, lots to explore and it really is quite overwhelming all the things you can and need to do. The only complaint I really have is make it coop already I mean you can have companions so why not let a friend play as them?

Amazing Game! Some glitches... but no big deal.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very fun game. Having played Fallout 3 and New Vegas, this is more of the same if you are a Fallout fan. Like all Fallout games, it has a few glitches, but it's a trade off you have when a game is as open as the Fallout games are. Easily a must buy.

Do not buy pre-owned games
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game did not work. It had a "could not read disk error". I deleted the partially download file from the PS4 to try again and it got stuck at the same point during the download.

An excellent game but missing icing on the cake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My last foray into the Commonwealth involved following a dog who led me on a trek through a myriad of junk and a Yao Guai, looking for clues ala Detective style and raiding random bodies for loot all to a classical soundtrack on the Pip-Boy. A change of pace to the high-tempo shootouts I had just been in but alas this is the beauty of Fallout, I didn't have to do this and I could have strayed off east somewhere but my subconcious told me otherwise. I can't leave that poor dog on its own. But this is both the strength and weakness of the latest instalment of Fallout. As open as the world is with the variety of enemies and locations, you lack consequence in your actions. Switch on Hardcore Mode on the much maligned Fallout New Vegas for example and those companions can die. You can be affected by thirst, and radiation, carrying twenty nuke-bombs means it will break your back. It's a beautiful game, Fallout 4 though they are typically Bethesda in style and the famous glitches are still around. I just feel the game could have benefited with that last bit of punch, consequences which echo the ruthlessness and harshness of a post-apocalyptic world. That said, I will still sink many hours into this installment but really hope the planned DLC can provide the missing icing on the cake.

Love this game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is fantastic, the different and complex stories, the free ranging world, only downside to this game is the amount of time it takes to do anything but that is very typical of any open world game. Would buy this game 10/10 times.

A solid game that missed the mark
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've put about a hundred hours into this game. I've built up settlements and gone exploring on my own and just "finished" the main storyline. I went for a sniper/rifle build with high perception and intelligence and have to say that gameplay is great in this game; guns handle well, and melee (for my second character) is satisfying and challenging. It's a solid FPS. Where the game fails is in the RPG part of its identity. Most quests could fall under the fetch quest category and almost everyone you meet is either a damsel/gentleman in distress or someone you kill on sight. There are instances where Bethesda creates an opportunity for good storytelling, but it feels shallow in comparison to Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas. Most of the storytelling/ world building comes through texts (notes and terminals). Most NPCs feel like NPCs without any real depth, though companions have backstories that involve completing a kind of loyalty mission for them, but even they can get on your nerves if you don't find one that suits your preferences. Overall, feels like a real missed opportunity to create an engrossing experience. Still, the gameplay is enough to bring me back in the future despite these issues.

Greatest game ive played
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is amazing. The only game ive played 7 hours straight so far this year. The graphics are eh but the story and amount of quest is great. Although it does seem a bit easier than new Vegas. But still fun and still playing

Great game weighed down a bit by it's main story
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fallout 4 is, overall, a great followup to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It follows pretty much the same fomula, but with much better graphics and a more dense world to explore. Unfortunately, the main quest that gets forced on you isn't written very well and takes away from the "play whatever kind of character you want" promise of the series.

Near Perfect Start
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Playstation gamer, I was always interested in trying Bethesda's titles on PS3 as I was really big into their earlier titles. Unfortunately they were married with multiple glitches, bugs, and in most cases were downright unplayable. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were technical messes on the PS3 but Bethesda has managed to put together a title that will make you forget all about it. Fallout 4 is the first title from the Bethesda line in the series in which I could really get into. Gameplay is not a huge step up from the previous two titles but I find myself having a lot of fun here and I can see why people enjoy this serious. The story may not be top notch but there is a number of things in which you can do out in the Wasteland. The new base building mechanics and the expanded crafting system added an extra dimension to the game that is satisfying for those of us who enjoy those type of things. From the days of play, I have gone from uninterested in this game at first (picked it up in a buy 2 get 1) to being thoroughly entertained. Definitely worth a buy if this is your entry title.

Best game of the year, simply awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start by saying that I loved Fallout and Fallout 2. I thought Fallout 3 was an affront to the original series and a poor continuation of the Fallout story and Fallout world. New Vegas was slightly better but still not as good as the original two games. With this game, Bethesda has completely redeemed themselves. This game is great! It is what I thought of when I heard that they were going to take over the series and continue the story. The best part of the game is the STORY LINE! I was motivated to find out what happened next the entire play through. Then, I played it through again to see what would happen if I chose a different ending. Then I played it through another time, yes three times, to see that last ending. I enjoyed it each time! It has excellent replay value! I found new things each time. On top of that, the companions have compelling story lines, and bonuses you can unlock, that make spending extra time with them worthwhile. Additionally, you can change your game style each time. I used rifles the first time I played, only fists the second, and energy weapons the last. It creates a new dynamic and makes it more challenging in some areas and easier in others. Changing the game each time. However, it is a slow and methodical game. If you are an adrenalin junky and need to be constantly moving around like Black Ops or other shooters you will be bored with this game. This game is a more relaxing game, with moments of intense action and strategy considerations. Play this one to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and wonderful story. Not to button mash as fast as you can. A simply wonderful game that is among my all time greats. A must play.

Blown Away
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game is very immersive and customisable. The graphics are a big leap from Fallout 3. I will say that it is very hard to get in to if this is your first Fallout game. If it is your first, I recommend either watching tutorials on how the game works or asking friends who have played previous Fallouts to help you out. Every time I play the game, it makes me wish that the next Elder Scrolls game was released already just because it feels like Skyrim (since Bethesda makes both games). It will definitely give you hours of fun and the only bad thing is that you'll forget that you have to get back to real life when you're done.
