I'm a Nikon guy, but i bought a Sony for traveling. I was just going to use the kit lens with my A7II for everything but i know there will be situations where i want to shoot in low light and the kit 28-70 wont work. Price: It's a little expensive. $250 is more expensive than the Nikon G, Nikon D or Canon EF 50mm equivalents Quality: The lens is sharp. On par with the others. Focus is somewhat slow compared to the other systems. Focus in LOW light is pretty terrible. I was shooting an engagement at the blue hour and towards the end I was shooting at 1250 ISO and it couldn't focus anymore. There really aren't any alternatives. Sony is still working on building their lens arsenal. 55mm Zeiss is one option but i would never pay nearly $1000 for a 50mm F1,8 Sony just announced at 50 f2.8 Macro that sounds interesting but thats still a F2.8 not F1.8.

Excellent lens. I’m a videographer and this lens is perfect for shooting interviews.

I have migrated to the full frame A7ii from an a6000 ad\nd loved the 50mm for that camera. So I anticipated the same great lens for the full frame... not so..... this lens hunts when in auto focus and is quite noisy...... The lens for the a6000 is a great deal! This lens is not in the same league as the 4/3rds lens ..... but for the price I will keep it.....

great cheap lens, easy to use very compact. focus a bit slow and noisy but it gets the job down considering how old this lens is

Love this lens. It’s the cheapest Sony lens in the market. This might have a slow focus motor but if you know how to work around it, it’s ni problem at all. Love the photos this lens can make.

I’ve had this lens for a while now and it’s optical quality and focusing are very excellent. An updated model that focuses closer would be a welcome choice. No complaints, does the job.

Best lens for the price and great for low-light. Might not be the most robust compared to other 50mm of higher price, but it is a solid beginner - intermediate level lens

This isn’t the BEST 50mm lens I have ever tried. I know it’s rather inexpensive, but I’ve tried other ones that I have been able to pick up for less than $100, and they are much sharper than this lens. However, I will say that I absolutely love this lens. It works perfectly with my Sony Nex F3, I think that’s what camera I have. The sharpness is a bit hazy when you are at f/1.8-2.8, but after that, the image quality has blown me away.

The 50mm Lens is suppose to be the most versatile lens. This is only true if you have a full frame sensor. If you are using a cropped sensor this shoots closer to an 85mm which requires you to be further back from your subject than you probably want. The bokeh is amazing though & still a fantastic lens

by different websites and camera store staff. I'm still learning about interchangeable lenses, so I'm not the best resource to judge. Takes very sharp and clear pictures and easy and lightweight to have attached to the camera to hit the streets, but I prefer using lenses with more zoom.

Nice lens to learn composition and your organic zoom(your feet). Bokeh orbs are basically ovals with points everywhere except the center. Didnt expect this lens to be perfect though. Bought it for the very small size, light weight and practice without a zoom lens. I recommend if you are learning like myself, and want to explore photography without destroying your bank account.

One of my favorite lens' to use with my Sony Alpha A7 II! This is one I use mostly for wedding portraits or portraits in general.

At first I didn’t think it would make a difference in my photos but I was proven wrong, I am able to produce amazing photo quality now

50mm is one of those lenses that you need in your bag. Its a must have in my opinion. Great for portraits and its easy to use.

After having spent some time shooting with it now I can say it creates some crisp photos. I’ve used it with an a6000 and it was a big jump from the kit lens.

Sharp? Yup. Small and lightweight? Yup. Relatively Inexpensive? Yup. It’s not the quickest focusing or quietest lens for sure, but it does what you’d expect. Highly recommend this instead of a slow zoom if you’re a beginner, and it’s nice to have a small, lightweight 50mm for out and about for more experienced shooters.

This lens is a must have. I was told by a few photographer friends this is a good affordable lens to have. It’s very light in weight and takes great photos. My other lens is great but it’s big and bulky so depending on where I am this lens is easier to handle.

If you're considering getting this lens, DO NOT HESITATE. It is more than enough to shoot photos and videos. Just do some research and practice using it and you won't regret your purchase. Portraits, landscapes, product, automotive, sports, etc,.
